I have done some minor ruleset additions and changes so as to better clean up the way that rules are listed on this board.

The most notable addition concerns full video requirement. I edited this for clarification. While we do want to encourage full video whenever the option is available, I added statements to clarify other means to submit a run in absence of video. The only absolute rule change is that video will be required if you claim to have a time that is in the top 3, or else a run is immediately rejected.

All the other general information (the fact that we use IGT, Vegetation Collision being always on, etc) was moved to the Game Rules, whereas Category Rules was kept specific.

Lastly, Comments are enabled. It's been a feature for a while, but I feel that this is a really useful tool to facilitate discussion about particular runs. Please be advised that to mitigate spam, we ask that you please have at least one verified run tied to your account (it can be in any game, but seriously, just go and run CPST and submit that because it's that easy to just tie up on that course)

Posting a necro response so as to further clarify why the mod team locked the thread, and also as to why I responded the way I did above.

Your initial thread was titled "You guys are getting a little better" (https://www.speedrun.com/atvof2/thread/xw11p) which suggests a very condescending demeanor as it originates from an account with no verified runs on record, let alone no verified activity for this game specifically. In any other game's forum on this site, this would warrant immediate response.

When we asked for further evidence on your times, you balked when asked to provide video evidence. Mag's first videos were just him pointing a camera (I presume a smartphone camera?) on his monitor as he played the game, and we are relatively lax of accepting a screenshot or legible capture of the race results screen as a valid indicator of IGT (Imgur is your best friend). We also employ a really lax emulator usage policy compared to other games on the site (especially other PS2/gen 6 console games).

All of the above is what we had determined was reasonable accommodation to be accepting of most runners while ensuring that this community does not have a chance at harboring the next Todd Rogers.

I just want to maintain the level of standards consistent with most other established boards whenever conditions permit, because ultimately there are some actions that if we indicate tolerance of, it will ultimately hinder the ATV2 community's advancement among the general speedrun community.

As for why we the mod team collectively decided to lock this thread, we want to encourage using other mechanisms for this so we can keep this board tidied for announcements regarding things directly related to the leaderboard such as rules changes. (We have a Discord server for this very reason). Most other sr.c boards reserve the forums for discussing specific strategies without changing the topic consistently (e.g. how to optimize 100 percent); I know of no other game which allows one single user to have one thread for chatroom-style discourse (basically, can I just walk into a random sr.c board, create a random form thread, and funnel all my discussion through that if I had a reasonable alternative to do the same?)

Admittedly, most of the active runners on this board do use Discord.

For context, this is for the ATV Offroad Fury 2 Freestyle board: https://www.speedrun.com/atvof2etc

The way that the Freestyle gamemode works is that each stage has a series of objectives that the player can select. Each level has the same objectives:

  • Hit Every Green Target
  • Hit Every Red Target
  • Bust Ten Different Combos
  • Score Stunt Points (a series of objectives where you try to score a certain number of points within a prescribed time limit and then score as many points as possible before time expires)

There is also an All Objectives category for those who wish to challenge all of the above only for a particular stage.

However, one level, and only one level, does not feature the Hit Every Green Target objective. How do I edit the IL board to hide or remove that category only for this specific level?

It will definitely be a miscellaneous category on the sub game board (which features a handful of category extensions and the freestyle runs) if this category is greenlit.

Because of how the train cycles work on a regular race, in all Yardley Station courses, the first lap is played differently (and slower) compared to the other courses. The only exception to this is probably Yardley Station Short because that course is so fast that players on the Polaris 500, Havoc Siege (a 1:1 clone of the Pola500 in stats), or Ravage 1000 can just barge through the course without having to worry about the train.

For YSM and YSL, I would suggest adding a First Lap category to reflect the different strategies used in the first lap to avoid the train. By my observations, YSM is more dependent on train strats in the first lap.

(My current YSM run shows such strats)

Does Nintendont count as an emulator for the purpose of the leaderboard?

For those who have not heard of it, it is an application for Wii which allows users to load GCN ISO files from an SD card or USB storage device. Otherwise, the game runs natively.

@NuMetalz The game is fully playable on PCSX2 without any settings changes (no hacks applied, no patches, etc). Only issues I notice is that oftentimes the music skips from one track to the next without it fully completing, though it is solely an aesthetic issue.

Another issue, though this one is more setup-dependent, in this case, is that there are minor slowdowns when near the other racers and/or on certain courses (Chateau Halifax is a bad offender: the lag was exorbitantly high when I was doing my attempts). All in all, this is probably one of the few games I can say runs faithfully on PCSX2 compared to real hardware (N.B.: I have also played Fury 2 on a real PS2, but emulating that game compared to Fury1 is much more resource-intensive (edit: to clarify, that game averages on 80% speed in-game but can achieve 100% speed in some cases)).

In regards to your concern where people can pass off separate ILs as a full run, I think the best means to remedy this is that people have to include navigating the menus in the final video (and since IGT is the metric that matters, then any time spent menuing is not going to affect WR pace). In addition, any restarts would be taken into account by adding the IGT the runner had before the restart, much as how Pac-Man World Rally does their leaderboards (since they are indifferent to people running All Tracks on the in-game Grand Prix or Quickrace modes). The constantly-running LiveSplit timer on my video can also be a good recommendation to mitigate splicing, since it runs at a consistent pace and any anomaly can be easily detected.

On a minor note (kind of related to this issue), I'd like the enduro courses added individually for ILs. I tried to get Rallis to do it, but apparently, he misunderstood: instead of adding new listings for the 5 enduro environments and splitting those into short, medium, and long per cat, he added those into the existing courses. (edit: I would like to mention I already have a run on Yardley Station Medium that I would like to submit that is much better than what I have on the linked video).

Since (by my knowledge) the enduro courses are not covered via Pro Career, is it feasible to just run the courses in quick race "Cross-Country Enduro" mode? In-game, there are 15 enduro courses: 5 unique environments, each of which has a short, medium, and long length course.

Last night, on my stream, I attempted such a run, but I have not calculated total IGT. I did include LiveSplit for a real-time metric. Link here:

Can we add a leaderboard for the time trial mode of this game? I think I'd run one per each stage of the game.

Presumably it'd use IGT.
