I'll make sub categories for New Game and New Game+ since Any% typically just means finish the game by any means necessary. I didn't think to make the distinction since I figured no one would finish the New Game due to how long it is lol. Thanks for the heads up!
Hello and welcome! I started speedrunning games about 8 months ago and this was the first game I ran thanks to Carci’s video on how to run it so many props to him. I haven’t run this game in a while though but still follow the community.
In my experience with speedrunning always try to run the most recent port of any game. A lot of times FPS will vary by just a few tenths of a second but when you think of it in the context of a speedrun that’s several vital seconds you could be saving. One game I ran the PS4 FPS was around 29fps but the pc was around 32fps and I ended up saving almost 2 minutes no problem.
And yes, PS3 to PS4 will definitely vary by around that same amount so I would recommend the PS4. Or the PC if you have it!
So I doubt I'll run the entire game, but is anyone interested in having a level leaderboard for the different hunts? Or focuses I guess? I know there's a lot of them but since it shows you the battle time at the end of every battle it would be pretty easy to verify. It's end game so anyone can submit times at anytime. I'd even be more than happy to set it the board up.
Could be fun, right?

It may seem arbitrary, but how about a low% simple subcategory? I know on simple most people do the tutorial and purchase the spread shot in the beginning, so the times would definitely be different. Add maybe?
Also peashooter only challenges are always fun.
Hey Blank, you can also edit the runs yourself should you continue having issues. Just go into the video page for your run and in the top right corner you'll see 3 circles. Click on that and there will be options for edit info and delete run. You can make the edits yourself that way. It will still have to be verified but it'll probably yield quicker results. Hope this helps!
So I started talking about this in the adding PS4 category to this speedrun, but since running on both console and PC there are significant differences.

Anyway, I just ran 100% on PC for the first time tonight and there's over a minute difference in time between console and PC. What I noticed is that PC actually runs at a different FPS which in turn makes movement speed faster and there are also no mid-game load times. The issue is with console when you get these mid-game loads is that it completely stops your movement and it takes time to pick up again. In a nutshell on PC you're going to be saving 6 seconds on average between each story. So I'm glad there are two separate categories.

Could you also add PS4 as a platform? Right now it's just XBOX and PC still.
Also rather then adding separate categories for just PS4, make the categories for PC and console.
And yeah on PS4/XBOX there's a bunch of loads that can vary by a couple of seconds (including loads before every story, so it definitely affects 100%), PC doesn't really have that. I'll probably end up picking up the PC version of this game so when I see some other differences I'll let you know. 99% of the time though there's usually around a 2 minute difference between console and PC because of the loads.
Yeah you're definitely right. It would be sweet to have load removal for console though
It may be worth adding sub categories for PC and console since console won't be able to take advantage of the load removal you get on PC

I agree with FurryWulfz. I think video evidence is absolutely required for this game, and in my opinion, any game on Speedrun.com. Remember, Speedrun.com is a worldwide competitively RANKED leaderboard website. Twin Galaxies never accepted any run without video.
And I'm not particularly worried about players being put off by the video evidence rule. Those players can speedrun the game for their own self satisfaction and don't have to be ranked. In my opinion, no video = never happened.
People can buy capture devices for the same price as this game. If they have the money to buy this game, they have the money to buy a capture device. And if you wish to be taken seriously as a speedrunner, it's a worthwhile investment. Otherwise, people have cell phones, right?
I think the rules should specify for no amiibos and no assist modes. If the costumes have special abilities that's number one, if other players can buy those abilities in game it's a time waste. I'd recommend having the category fair for all and not get an unfair advantage cuz they have money to burn
Lastly, I start timer upon choosing start from the opening menu and end the timer when the Super Mario Odyssey logo appears
That does seem silly that we have to wait a week before we can submit times, hasn't one of the mods finished the game already? I've already beaten it and ran it twice.
I'd just like to see some runs submitted so I can see times others have gotten.

Hello, I'm trying to become a moderator for The Unfinished Swan. I've posted several questions to the moderator (as have others) and tried to contact to no avail through Twitter, and he still seems to be logging into Speedrun.com. My run has been awaiting verification for over 5 days now.
I've been trying to add a few categories to accommodate for people who have already completed the game (as it stands, you have to delete the application saved data from the PS4 every single time you wish to start a new run, which also deletes all upgrades you have received from collecting items throughout playing the game)
