Isn't the point of speedruns to get through the game as fast as possible no matter what?
No matter what is the reasons different categories exist. rift category is stupid as it basically requires set up every run, and considering how often runners reset that is just a who has no life challenge.
Bugs category can't exist at the moment as there are no major bugs in the game found yet.

This point is ironic and bizarre considering all rooms categories require you to do pre-run setup (Reaching the Rooms entryway) as well as lots of category extensions (If you want to do runs of specific segments, like "Library" only runs or "Elevator" only runs, both runs I've ran plenty) You know you'll have to set up the run by actually, you know, reaching the library or the elevator. Setting up the rift isn't any different. I say this to say your point is either invalid, or if it is valid, like half of the category extensions leaderboard should be deleted as well as the entire rooms category.
That being said, I think the main reason we don't have a rift category is simply because we have so many categories that it gets to be messy and complicated. It's already hard to navigate the collective few hundred categories we have and adding a rift category to every single one would be tedious, time consuming, and the truth is there likely wouldn't be many people running the category simply because most people don't want to do pre-run setup. (This is the reason why you don't see that many times on segment-specific categories. If we could start out each run at the library, for example, then people would run the category more. Same goes for the final elevator. But because we can't, only a handful of people have ever seriously ran the category.)
Welcome to the fourth article of the newsletter; Apologies for the big delay since the last one but hopefully things will speed up from now on. this time we have so much to cover so bare with me.
