There already is an in-game timer and I believe that it generally is accurate. So why are we retiming runs? There will always be inconsistencies due to video quality and you have no control over this. Retiming runs just provides confusion to new runners and can overshadow potential wrs.
The retiming system also seems to be fundamentally flawed. As for instance, runs of mine are always being made slower by a more significant margin than what feels like everyone else's runs are.
At the current time, the in game timer is not used due to slower obby times not appearing, and only Atlantis / Sled Race showing the in game time with slower times.
We've got this written in the rules, one reason being that has listed above my Ivory, 2nd being that when you don't hit an in-game PB, (like for example you are doing hoverboard and glitchless runs) the glitchless runs will not show the in-game timer when completing for the obbys, and from the last frame of the timer before finishing the run, there is a difference of either 0.01 or 0.02, and it's inconsistent as to which it will be, where some have even been far longer than both those numbers
