When specifically should the timing start and finish ?

timing starts as soon as you click the icon when starting a new file, and splits are made as soon as you click the "skip" button during the animation between levels

To add on to @primavera , it's always helpful to check the "View Rules" tab when seeing a category when interested to speedrun. I am currently changing some rules to the IL's and I will make an announcement on the forum soon.
