Overly Detailed/Extensive Text Mega Guide: Any% & All Scarabs (MS-DOS)
Aktualisiert von viyami
Hi, just wanted to go ahead and make a text guide for the game as well that is overly painfully detailed to share some of the smaller intricacies in the runs/routes as a reference.
Overly Long & Detailed Guide:
- Double tap enter to skip the initial cutscene and begin the run. (You’ll get a feel for it. If you over mash, you may accidentally restart the cutscene in the entryway. Which yes, you can keep going as infinitely as you desire.)
- All Scarabs (Beginner): Turn around and approach the door.
- All Scarabs (Beginner): Turn around to face the table again.
- Go to the right of the table. This avoids a cutscene that happens if you go up the left side.
- Turn left at the end of the table.
- Continue forward through the hall, up the stairs, and through the upstairs door.
- Turn right and go to the fireplace.
- Activate the fireplace to get the silver key.
- Turn around.
- Forward toward the painting.
- Turn right and head toward the drawers until you get a cutscene.
- Any%: If you get the scarab here, reset, because it will cost you 53 seconds to sit through the cutscene.
- All Scarabs (Optimal): If you didn’t get a scarab here, reset.
- All Scarabs: If you got a scarab scene, re-approach/activate the drawers to get the non-scarab animation.
- Activate the drawers to bring up the cursor.
- Select and open drawer 4
- Activate cursor, select and open drawer 2 to get the Keg Tap.
- Press back to leave the drawers after the scene. (Holding it won’t work.)
- Turn around and go straight until you’re in front of the door in the dining room.
- Open your inventory, press left and use the Silver Key.
- Turn left.
- Hold up/forward until you enter the crank vault screen.
- Activate to grab.
- Activate again to start the first number spin.
- Activate on about 9 so the number itself stops on 7.
- Activate again to start the second number’s spin.
- Activate to stop on about 3 so the number stops on 1 and turns back to 8.
- Down/back after the cutscene.
- Forward until you’re in the intersection room before the stairs.
- Turn right and go to the keg room.
- Continue to the keg.
- Open your inventory, press left and use the Keg Tap.
- Down/Back out from the Keg after the scene.
- Turn right.
- Forward until you’re in front of the 78 Door.
- Open your inventory, press right and use the Ring.
- Optional: Enjoy the Raiders of the Lost Ark reference.
- Go forward once after the cutscene.
- Left.
- Go forward until you’re in the animal toy puzzle.
- Activate the toy 3 times so the deer is facing you.
- Back out from the toy.
- Turn right.

- All Scarabs (Beginner): Turn around and approach the door/gate.
- All Scarabs (Beginner): Back away from the gate.
- All Scarabs (Beginner): Turn around.
- Forward until you’re in the rotary crank scene.
- Activate the crank and hold until you’ve cranked 5 times. (Note: You can release early to not over crank. It’s also better to under crank than to over crank. It will give you a feedback scene so you can double check your count. And it's much faster than having to recalculate and crank a massive amount.)
- Back away from the crank.
- Turn around.
- Forward until just before you’re almost front of the fountain.
- Right.
- Forward until you’re in the Aquarius buttons scene.
- Activate to bring up your hand cursor.
- Press the light blue / aquamarine button in the bottom row. (Note: Movement of the cursor can be finicky, it’s just a figuring out what works for you thing.)
- Back out from the Aquarius Statue.
- Turn around to face the other statue.
- Forward until you’re in the Sagittarius buttons scene.
- Press the upper right corner green button.
- All Scarabs (Optimal): Press forward after the cutscene to get Fountain Scarab. If you don’t get the third scarab here, reset.
- All Scarabs (Beginner): If you didn’t get Gate Scarab, press forward to get Fountain Scarab. If you didn’t get the third scarab by this point, reset.
- All Scarabs: Back away from the fountain.
- Turn around 180 degrees.
- Forward until you enter the rotation crank scene again.
- Crank 10 times.
- Back away.
- Turn around.
- Forward until you're at the bottom of the stairs.
- Left.
- Forward to get the Gun.
- Back.
- Left.
- Forward to rotary crank.
- Crank 3 times.
- Back.
- Turn around.
- Forward down the steps to the window.
- Use the Gun to break the window.
- Turn around after the climbing scene.
- Forward to trigger Dadula cutscene.
- All Scarabs: Forward after Dadula cutscene until you get the Hall Scarab from the wall at the end.
- All Scarabs: Turn around.
- All Scarabs: Forward once, you'll be automatically stopped. (If you hold, you may overshoot back to the doors.)
- All Scarabs: Right.
- Any%: Left after Dadula cutscene
- Forward through the wall.
- Forward until in Gear Puzzle scene.
- Gear Puzzle Solution Option #1: S, S, R, S, L, S, S, R, S, S, S (S = Space/Activate, 11 inputs, 8 animations)
- Gear Puzzle Solution Option #2: S, S, R, S, L, S, R, R, S, L, S (S = Space/Activate, 11 inputs, 6 animations. Very marginally optimal, but harder to execute. This is faster on console for certain when executed similarly.)
- Forward until you activate the painting at the top of the stairs and final cutscene.
- At Eye Fade (Slow): Open inventory and use gun for good ending. This has become traditional because of initial description of end criteria.
- At Eye Fade (Optimal): Hold up/foward for bad ending. (This saves somewhere less than a second, but can be harder to split and retime as accurately.)
...most of this works for console versions too, except there are more places where you can't just hold a direction (or multiple to buffer movement); your 78 vault is way different; you can't skip the opening cutscene; and your gear puzzle moves slower.
General Notes:
- Any%: After you miss the the Drawer Scarab, it's all execution as no other scarabs can spawn on the route unless you mess up an input to check one of the locations.
- All Scarabs Beginner route is meant to be a more casual route with a single 1/3 chance of having to reset on the third scarab. It's meant to get you up and running the category. I don't recommend getting in the habit of trying to save a run by going to the Knight Pit to get the third scarab, which is an additional 3+ minutes out of the way.
- All Scarabs Optimal route is intended for those who want a competitive time, but it's severely reset heavy due to relying on RNG which has a combined >95% chance of overall run failure (50%, 50%, and 33% chances respectively.)
- The fountain scarab afaik can only spawn after the fountain is drained. The desk scarab cannot spawn after you get the golden key from the corpses. Desk scarab's animation is fastest, but the back tracking eats that time save.
- You can buffer your movements by holding multiple directions at the same time. Preference will seemingly be given to the first you held down, so it's important to know where and when you can use this if you choose to.
- If anyone has a better gear puzzle solution, please let me know.
I also went ahead and made a chart of all the scarab locations and the animation times getting to/from them when they diverge from being en route as well as their animation times for reference and better understanding of time risk/reward on checks:
