Top Gear Rally 2. A guide to the rules and other stuff

Category Requirements

Complete all races within your cup of choice. Timing starts when you select the first leg of the first race, and ends when you cross the finish line of the final leg in the final race of the cup.

All cheats are banned and the cup you want to play must be unlocked by regular means, such as by completing cups and doing the licenses to gain CP.

Speedrun Strats:

Amateur Cup:

Car: Sport Serro

Sprint Cup:

Car: Midnight Motors

National Cup:

Car: Vortek / Tri Lariat

World Cup:

Car: Midnight Talon

(If you can then use the Evo or Corolla)

Rally Cup:

Car: Mitsubishi Evo / Toyota Corolla

All Cups:

Car: Mitsubishi Evo / Toyota Corolla

Notes:

First and foremost, be prepared to lose your tires A LOT. This game loves to eat your tires even if you equip the right ones for the occasion. With that being said, it is imperative that you equip the right tires for the terrain type; e.g. off-road tires for the desert, hydro tires for rain etc. If you don’t, then your tires will die constantly and you will want to die too.

If the CPU crashes into you or if you clip the front of their car with the back of yours, you will get a temporary speed boost at the cost of a little bit of damage to your car. It is worth trying to get this speed boost in most situations, apart from the last 2 cups where it can be a detriment.

The first 3 cups of the game are pretty easy with nothing worth noting really. However, the world cup is the devil incarnate. Jaipur Heights is easily the hardest track in the game and the rest of the tracks in the cup are insane too. You can equip the right tires and drive perfectly and still get dead last. The spike in difficulty here is ridiculous! if you aren't using the Evo or the Corolla, you're gonna have a bad time. The final cup isn’t that bad as by this point you will have access to the best cars in the game which are the Mitsubishi Evo and the Toyota Corolla. If you take the time to grind beforehand then the Toyota Corolla is the best car for all snow tracks when maxed-out with snow tires.

Tire Guide:

  • Mountain - Roadslicks / Tarmax
  • Jungle - Trailblazer or Stock
  • Farmland - Roadslicks / Tarmax or Stock
  • Desert - Trailblazer
  • Rain - RainCutter / RainHydro
  • Snow - SubZero 650

Finally, I have reason to believe that playing this game on console is faster and better. I saw a Reddit post about people complaining at the difficulty of the world cup and how it isn’t that bad on console. Can’t prove this myself yet as I only have the game on emulator and very little is known about this game. What you are reading now is pretty much it, apart from a strategy guide that isn’t great but offers enough basic info to get you started that I shall link here!

One last thing to note is I currently believe some of the license challenges from the last 2 sets are impossible on emulator as the slowdown is too much and you don’t have enough time to complete them.

If for whatever reason you have taken the time out of your day to read this then thank you and good luck to you! I hope you find this helpful. Overall once you get used to the jank this game is pretty fun, except for the world cup which is torture. Good day to you.
