As the game allows you to buy items before a run, are there any limitations that should be put on them? It should be obvious to anyone who has played, but they can have a pretty big impact on a run, e.g., I've had an Idol of Patience drop from a bone pile in the first beach area, appear in the first mid-level shop, and then gotten it as a reward before getting to Knight Captain Rudolf thanks to starting with 7.5 luck.
Personally, I think there should just be some sort of spending cap, since it can allow a little flexibility with starting strats without making runs too easy
Personally, A spending cap sounds like a good idea, Starting with three trickster cards is a wild and basically free strat.
I'd say 2 common trinkets, 1 rare trinket and ban epics as they can make it fairly trival?
Runs can still be completed quick without starting items, but adding a cap limits how broken they can start for sure
Personally I'd like to see starting items completely banned unless there's a no restrictions category added. it would keep from making the need for grinding gems just to do a couple runs attempts to a minimum, or stop people from using external tools (IE cheat engine) to get gems to grind out runs.
But if we just make an item cap, I'd make the cap down to 1 or 2 common starting items, to make rituals a bit more consistent to get or something along those lines.
Rogue lites are meant to have a certain amount of randomness added to it, that's what makes them fun. having a consistent overpowered strategy for runs can make it quite a bit faster, which I'd love to see time drop down and what's capable for a run, but I do think the initial grind for game currency before runs would make it less appealing for a lot of potential runners.
I have one run any% run up but as far as I remember I started with a fire mox and kinda regret it. I'm doing either any% or no portal from now on with no starting relic because I'd rather it be in the 'hardest' category from the beginning. And I'd rather not the run categories get even more fractured
That's what we've been doing, as the starting relics take the randomness and fun away from the runs, I think having to adapt on the fly makes for a better run
I think I landed pretty much where everyone else did, especially since I'm hoping their custom run update has a feature to guarantee the secret/special bosses are available because that's the exact kind of run I want to do the most, and I don't think it's a great idea to split the categories too much without the game gaining popularity
