When doing a Any% NLS or All Levels run, certain stages will require you to run against a treadmill with a 1-block high tunnel above it. For example, you'll need to do this in stage 4-7 in order to quickly enter the secret and you will also need this in 8-4 to access the boulder at the start of the stage slightly faster.

The problem is that if you simply run against the treadmill, it pushes you back faster than you can run. Some people try to get into the 1-block high segment and mash jump while running against the treadmill. While this is on the right track, it still needs an inhuman mashing rate to be effective.

The trick to running against the treadmill in such a cramped space is to enter the tunnel and then to hold DOWN, as well as the opposite direction that the treadmill is running on, while mashing the jump button. Holding the running direction while crouching allows you to jump up from lower, which means you spend more time unaffected by the treadmill's pull and you can move to the right faster. It also allows for a much more lenient mashing rate on the jump button.

As for entering the tunnel in the first place, one good technique is to perform a single jump input to get yourself flush with the wall above the tunnel, then performing an air spike. When doing an air spike after a single jump, you get much more horizontal movement and you'll get deeper into the tunnel before you need to hold the inputs mentioned above.
