It seems the OOB glitch is pretty much just reliant on luck. I'm not 100% sure what you mean when talking about the route change- I'll watch the vid when it's verified. As it's reliant on luck, I'd say do neutral (medium?) jumps instead of small jumps to get OOB. In fact I sometimes use big jumps, just because you're more likely not to miss the jump once you've lined yourself up with a neutral jump, as the bigger the jump, the harder it is to change your horizontal velocity a lot, like you can with lots of little jumps.

The half-forest half-lava glitch has happened to me too. I think that crow room glitch has also happened to me.

Incorporating OOB in 100% would be awesome, and I've thought of trying to route it, but the cats are spread pretty evenly around the game, so I don't think this will ever happen without a MASSIVE route change. The only thing I can really think of is getting OOB to save time in getting the cats in the upper forest section, just above the underworld and lava bit.

I've gotten a bit frustrated with any%, so I'm trying any% no OOB now. I think my best time so far is 2:47 or something, not sure; I'm still getting used to the route. I watched your 2:44 video just now and you're definitely getting really close. I have a few pieces of advice that you might not have realized yet to help get the last couple seconds. Time-stamps are based on the in-game timer.

1:39: Why not already be falling when you go down through where there used to be mystery blocks?
1:49: It's worth it to go under the fireball and intentionally die as you go into the next room, even if it isn't very sharp
1:51/1:52: The intentional death here is even easier and saves more time
1:58: Might as well already be falling into underworld too
2:19: I think you'll find my 100% strat more consistent for this room (the empty one with four crows). Tap left briefly, do a single large jump and go back to full right, and you'll dodge the crows every time.

I'll try to get a decent run up soon.

Of course, as soon as I say that I manage to butcher the death at 1:49 and the strat at 1:58 in a run that ended up with a time of 2:45 anyway, definitely costing me second place and possibly costing me the world record. Oh well. I bet that one of us will be getting sub-2:40 eventually.

Dude you're a fucking monster. But there's no way I'm going to give up on this. 2:38 HERE I COME

Also thanks for the tips ❤️

  liopoilliopoil

Thanks 🙂 It definitely can be beat. There are a couple seconds to save in the factory at the very least, and since the run is so much shorter than 100% I think it's reasonable to get an extremely clean run. I'm going to go back to any% for now, hoping for the dream run which I think just might be sub-50. It will take a lot of grinding though to get the perfect glitch and fall. You can watch the strat in my 0:53 run now; do you think the lava path is faster if done correctly?

You should get leaderboard runs in the other categories too! 3rd place 100% and 4th place any% should be very doable.

  cros107cros107

Oh, I see what you mean. I'm not sure if it would be faster, I'd say maybe a second at most, done perfectly? You have to fly down a bit extra and fly up a bit extra, and I'm not 100% sure the deaths make up for it.

  cros107cros107

Oh also, the reason I don't enter underworld already falling is because if you are flat on the ground and just hold right the whole time until you reach the bottom, you come out on the right every time. Your method is slightly faster if done perfectly- but it's pretty luck reliant- you have to have really good timing + hope you don't bounce around at the bottom, losing more time than you would've saved. That factory in your any% No OOB run was pretty unfourtunate- but that falling strat after the purple switch is SICK- how do you do it? It seems pretty inconsistent, my PB has a consistent method which, while not necessarily faster, again, works almost 100% of the time.

  cros107cros107

hoooooooly shit. Just had a 50.x pace run, went too far too the right when falling and killed the run. Oh well.

  liopoilliopoil

Yeah, my estimation of it is that it saves maybe half a second if done perfectly. But since the run is so short, I feel like I should go for it anyway.

It's not that hard to time your fall so that you make it into the underworld, but it is hard to control your bounce at the bottom. Probably the best way would be to do a small jump right before you hit the bottom, but that's very tough. Still, I think even with the bit of bouncing I had in my run it was slightly better.

The factory fall that I failed in my run has been frustratingly inconsistent for me, even though it shouldn't really be that hard. Oh well. The one after the purple switch... I don't know man. I've definitely failed it many times, but it just feels like the thing to do. I try to start falling at the time so that I'll just barely get past the floating ledge, and the I keep holding right until I hit the wall, when I immediately switch to holding left. If you do that just right you'll miss both machines every time, but a little bit of error either way will cause you to hit one of them. I switch back to holding right as soon as I hit the left wall. I'm not sure that trick is actually worth attempting. It's a shame that there's no real way to fall without going past the floating ledge. Your method is only slower in that you start falling slightly later and that you don't have full speed to the right when you fall past the second set of machines.

  cros107cros107

Alright, I thought my method was slower, not going to change it though. I've got a really consistent factory and, while not perfect, is maybe 1s off perfect with my strats done perfectly. To be honest, there are 2 spots that I really need to practice.

1. Fire Cave death abuse towards the end
2. Underworld

I'm going to grind both of them and do some more attempts tomorrow. At this point I can do the rest of the run just fine, I just can't do these 2 things consistently. I doubt my lava caves 1 will ever improve and my factory... barely, and only if I really, really grind. It's after factory where the hard part starts.

  liopoilliopoil

Yeah, those seem like good priorities to me. The 3rd, 4th, and 6th rooms with crows in them are especially deadly in my experience. In my run I chickened out on one of the first fire cave death on the way to the underworld because I was too high and would hit the fire ball; the right strat to do there is to do tiny jumps and go under the fire ball.

If I come back to this run I would focus on getting the factory consistently close to perfect. I still frequently mess up going through the giant machines backwards at the beginning of the factory part. If my runs rarely died before the end of the factory then I'd get lucky enough to finish off a run that's a second or two faster eventually.

  cros107cros107

By the "giant machines backwards" do you mean the first 2 rooms? They're super easy to get down once you know what you're doing.

  liopoilliopoil

Yeah, the first (three) rooms. Maybe it just took a while for me to get down, but in all three there's a part where you have to wait for the path to be clear and that's easy to screw up. Come to think of it that's still the case when you do them forwards in 100%, so yeah I probably just took some getting used to.

  cros107cros107

It took me a while to get used to, but when I first started running the game I was using completely wrong strats. After I found out about the ones I use now it's really easy, and I get through factory 95% of the time. Funny how factory used to be my 2nd most inconsistent area. Now it's probably my most consistent 😛

  liopoilliopoil

Well, I took a break for a while, and then today I tried some more any% No OOB runs. No good times, but I did have one run with TWO good glitches in the overworld. When I get a glitch I go for any%, and on this run I got to the glitch site at what looked like a low 43 and failed the glitch. So I think that was probably sub-50 pace, but it will take a miracle to get a glitch and good fall on such a run.

Still trying, cros?

  liopoilliopoil

Just got 2:39.083, which is 1/30th of a second slower than my world record 😛. I'm going to get the 2:38 soon though.

  cros107cros107

Nice! I'm pretty burned out from Cat Planet after playing non-stop trying to get WR before you did lol. I do plan to come back though. Just wondering, how much did you play at that time?

  liopoilliopoil

I'm not sure how many hours I was putting in. I got good at the movement in general a couple years ago when I got my first runs on SDA. I probably averaged a little over an hour a day at the peak.

Not that this is going to encourage you, but I got 2:38.417 today in a little under an hour. I'm going to shoot for 2:37 soon.

When you come back, I think you should get leaderboard times in the other categories. I think I said this before, but you should be able to get 3rd place in 100% and 4th place in any% (glitch) without too much grinding.

  cros107cros107

I did 100% a bit on stream, I got 4th or 5th place but I didn't submit the run. I can definitely improve though.
