If this game had a category that was longer than 10 minutes I'd run it. This game is awesome!

Epic! Using partners with c-down feels janky so I hope it passes! Why they wouldn't default rebind that to a button (instead of the stick) when they were making the VC port is beyond me, especially considering they had the foresight to do it in the WiiVC port of OOT and that was released almost half a year prior.

:D happy days! Thank you much!

I feel a little silly (and pedantic) asking this, but am I allowed to remap c-down on a gamecube controller c-stick to a digital button like X? It's analog to digital which violates a rule, but the original game had c-down as a digital input instead of an analog one so... it's actually digital to analog to digital. I am playing on WiiVC with an ESS adapter used for input display (ESS turned off). Just wanted to make sure this was worth the trouble of setting up before I actually do it! Thanks :D

According to the Play Store listing, the game runs on anything running Android 5.0 or higher. I can purchase and run it on my Galaxy s22 Ultra! Just checked. For a bit of context, Android 5.0 released in late 2014, so realistically anything released 2015 onward should have the ability to download and run it. It could potentially be some sort of region-lock. Do you know what version of Android you're running and your device model?

Yea, but doesn't it seem weird that the rules don't prohibit touch-screen laptops? A touch-screen laptop would be a much larger advantage than a drawing tablet without a screen, but still the later is banned and the former is permitted. I just think there should be an update for the sake of consistency. Personally I am in favor of removing it but I also haven't run this game before so all I can do is logic and reason and polite requests. I would DEFINITELY still run this game if that rule was changed, I'm still here trying to get a response after 9 months so that's gotta count for something...

I'll run it on my Galaxy S22 Ultra tomorrow and submit maybe 👀

I understand this game has recently gotten new mods which I think is fantastic! Can I get some clarification on this whole "Touch Screen Laptops being allowed but Drawing Tablet not" thing? I really want to run this game using my Wacom CTL-4100 ( https://estore.wacom.com/en-US/wacom-intuos-s-black-us-ctl4100.html ) and don't believe it will give me more of an advantage than (for example) a touch-screen laptop which is NOT explicitly prohibited in the rules. I don't mean to be a pest, I just really love this game and I've always played it like that! I think the rule seems arbitrary and I've never been able to get any sort of mod response about it :/

Hold on a sec, that makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. Here is the Google Play store link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llc3909.papersplease

if you look at the contact info it leads to the official website that states the game is available on Android:

https://papersplea.se/

Why have an iOS category and not an Android category?

And one more clarifying question: is using a touch screen PC prohibited? I don't see anything against it in the rules and this would objectively be a greater advantage than a regular drawing tablet as prohibited in the game rules.

I have a drawing tablet I use to play Osu and I am interested in running this game, however I would like to use my tablet as the game is much more enjoyable for me. Since there is a rule prohibiting it I can only assume that is because someone was doing this at one point and it was seen as an unfair advantage. I won't try to argue that point, but if I were to submit runs with video proof of my hands and a non-screen wacom tablet could a separate category be made for runs using a drawing tablet? I love this game but I don't see the potential for speed being fully utilized here. I'd even say the counter argument of accessibility doesn't really make sense considering a screenless drawing tablet is significantly less expensive than an iOS device. Please let me know! I'd love to pioneer a new way for people to enjoy this game :)

I am attempting to do a glitched 1.13 All Advancements speedrun, but am running into some issues when it comes to item duplication. For whatever reason, the only way I can successfully get items to duplicate is by waiting around 38 seconds after I pick them up (single player using the alt+f4 method). I can't find any sort of resources on this issues and it would seem that, in 1.12, this duping method worked instantly. I know it didn't get patched or anything because I have gotten it to work after waiting for a while, but it seems like my acquisition of the items doesn't register immediately, as closing and reloading instantly just leaves them lying on the ground in front of me. I would greatly appreciate any help that can be given on the subject!

Alright, but the replacement of thermal paste isn't a modding thing. It's a general upkeep thing. As a matter of fact, it is good practice to keep up with thermal paste on any system that requires cooling. Doing so can greatly increase the lifespan of your device and protect the CPU from overheating. I would argue that replacing thermal paste is the equivalent of replacing a faulty fan or card reader in your device. It's not modding since the console came with the feature to begin with. All you're actually doing is putting something that should be somewhere where it belongs. At that point, I'd argue that not allowing people to do this gives an unfair advantage to those who purchase newer Nintendo Switches. TL;DR Advocating against proper practice for upkeeping your electronics is a dangerous game and sacrificing your system should never be a requirement for a game or category.

The furthest I have gotten legitimately is the 32k tile. I think I uploaded a short vod to the discord a few months ago of the culmination of that game that took me legitimate hours.

My strat is to think of it like building a snake. I use the bottom right corner and try to keep my highest block there. I build from right to left on the bottom, go up one row, and then build from left to right. The main difficulty comes from keeping the blocks where they need to be. I have found that you almost never want to move up and be very cautious about moving left. Always make sure your largest block stays in a corner and, if it goes somewhere else, make it a priority to get it back. Hope this helps!

Is there a settings manip that would allow it to be more time based?

I get what you're saying, and I have stopped running this game altogether for the most part. The fact of the matter is there is very little skill involved in the glitched runs. This is not equatable to SMB2 or Animal Crossing because: A. These runs are literally 360+ time longer than 2048 runs B. There is more than just straight RNG involved in those games (ESPECIALLY in Super monkey ball). Those records are unattainable because the top runners have put so much time into mastering the game and its physics that you would have to spend hundreds of hours to reach the same level of skill. Grinding frame perfect tricks and fractional angles is much different than holding down a few keys and clicking MB1 every few seconds. This paradigm is reflected in many popular games actually. Like legitimately, who would enjoy grinding Any% runs for a game like oot? It's 5 minutes of cutscenes and 10 minutes of gameplay. This is why the runs people actually grind are categories like MST and 100%. It's challenging and there is a margin for improvement. I'm not saying these glitched runs shouldn't be valid. I just think that they shouldn't be the main focus of this game. I think splitting the categories is a great idea and, honestly, I think a hand cam is a great idea. Literally all you need is a smartphone or any type of camera and a free editing software like HitFilms Express. At this point there is no excuse not to have something like that. It's still just as accessible and if you are too lazy to spend 5 minutes editing you probably should pick a hobby that doesn't involve having to commit a lot of time to to be good at, like knitting or politics. Also, people keep saying that, if it's an issue, I should just use a touch screen computer, however this is not an actual solution. This doesn't fix the underlying problem with the leaderboards and rules that allow runs to be actually unverifiable. All it does is make people not want to run this game, and I am clearly not the only person that feels this way. People who actually enjoy this game are not running it because of the problems with the rules and boards.

My feeling is as follows: The keyboard LB is already kinda a joke. It's %100 RNG, in that you hold down a few keys and hope that the numbers on the right are small. The PC version is insecure and unreliable. The truth of the matter is there is no way to 100% know that a pc run is valid. Serious, go the the website and press f12 (on chrome). You can view AND EDIT all the source code for the game, as it is coded in HTML and Java. Mobile runs do not have this luxury. There is no feasible way to cheat the system on a mobile run. That's why the high tile runs of mobile are very obviously not just RNG. The barrier for entry is kinda irrelevant imo. If this game were easily accessible, then more people would run it. Instead, anyone that looks at the LB and sees these impossibly fast runs will just turn away immediately because it's just not fun when there is no prospect of competition and little required skill involved.

Again this is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree if you'd like, but until these boards become fair, no one is going to take this game seriously as a speed game which is a shame because there is definitely potential here for something fun and competitive.
