Well when I and a lot of the runners started, there wasn't a reliable way to buffer rooster skip so I just went straight to unbuffered. It didn't take long to get pretty consistent at it but even now it kills runs occasionally if I decide not to switch to the slow pause buffer, map buffer strat.

Because completing Dungeon 4 triggers the ghost sidequest which stops you entering certain dungeons until it's completed which wastes time. So it just ends up being quicker to finish D4 last so he wont get in the way.

Agree with Dragon, Rapid and Hakua

Move to miscellaneous: -All Instruments -Legacy

Keep as Main: -Any% (No SQ/WW/OoB) -Any% -100% -Any% (No WW/OoB)

I agree that having a category for pre-sj's "Zorlax%" would actually be really fun.

Superjumps came around not long after I started and I didn't get passed a 1:16 in the old route so it'd be cool to check it out now :P

Do I want to see SS duping added to a Hundo run? Yes Do I want to see it replace the current Hundo category? No

I'd say add in another hundo category that does allow SS duping so people can post times with it for fun. (Perhaps called All Inventory as Cransoon has mentioned) and it can even go in the Misc where Legacy should also be tbh.

So "No" to changing the current 100%.

Well as Deln has already somewhat started, the rules can be outlined more clearly through speedrun.com than ZSR so there's no more uncertainty on it. Rather than relying on word of mouth for some things.

There's all this talk about "Duplication" being banned but it literally does not say that anywhere in the rules posted and that are on ZSR. It just says to get all the heart pieces/items/seashells etc. and duplication is a way of getting them.

Even if some interpret that it is "implied" that duplication is banned it doesn't actually state it. So unless i'm missing a section of the rules (and if I am then please disregard this and show me my error) I'm not sure where this strong case of no duplication being allowed is coming from?

At the very beginning of this Z was talking about losing the essence of hundo or something and again i'm not sure what this means since we skip other sections of the run without losing any "essence". So if it's a matter of not liking it as opposed to being against the rules then this sounds very similar to super jumps and look how they are now integrated into the categories that everyone now runs happily.

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

Well I don't think the fact that a few people have done Hundo runs means that all the rest don't consider it a serious category. They might just not have learned it yet or maybe they prefer watching it to running it.

Just seemed weird that I was explaining how 100% was serious the other day and you kept me shooting me down saying it wasn't and now you say it is lol

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

"I was doing SERIOUS 100% runs before I was accepted into Californithon for No S&Q, and I always take 100% seriously. It's my favorite (real) category."

ZorlaxSeven - Last Wednesday at 6:26 PM "Hundo is a non-serious category. (What's the difference between no. 1 and no. 2 now? 6+ minutes?) No matter how cool it is. And we're not saying that OoT hundo is the archetype for our 100%; I was saying that ZFG's logic about having "the spirit of the category" has relevance here. The rules were decided a long time ago through SDA, if I recall. The best description of the rules is on ZSR. There, however, is no documentation about HeartPiece duping, which was kinda (a little) decided on. And don't get me wrong, behind the meme category that is Zorlax%, 100% is my favourite category. But that doesn't make it a "serious" one."

I'm so confused lol

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

Man does cransoon ever make a compelling argument about the rules, not sure what to think lol

Is this gonna be another vote thing or what's the solution here exactly?

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

I agree with most of what you are saying Choto in that it IS about going fast lol it's not about the freaking entertainment and showcasing. Do casual runs if you want to show off the game and let the speedrunners plow right through it as fast as possible.

That being said each individual seashell should be collected rather than duplicated but not 20 like the rules state. It should be all 26 seashells and then getting the sword. If the purpose is the seashells and not the Lvl 2 sword then collecting only 20 is completely defeating the purpose. So I put it out there that all 26 need to be collected for this to actually be 100%.

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

I may have found this glitch but I'm not sure if it should be implemented into the category. My reasons are my own on the matter however and whilst I don't support the whole "It needs to be entertaining and that's all that matters" spiel, I do kind of think that collecting each specific heart container/piece and seashell is important to truly 100% it. Still undecided though.

That's not to say I won't maybe do seashell duping within some other arbitrary run outside of these leaderboards for fun though :P

Messing up the block push room (Aka hardest room in the game) in D8...

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

Well in LA it's all about using the mushroom. It makes villa skip really easy but in my opinion rooster skip much harder. There's also another jump going to D8 which is awkward that requires mushroom buffering to get across.

You also skip the hookshot and the dungeon order is different. It goes D1, D2, D3, D4, D8, D7, D6, D5. And there's instrument cutscene skip which is optional except for D4 instrument which you HAVE to get or the ghost will appear after completing the dungeon.

Yes to separate ACE from Any%. Maybe into a miscellaneous category or something.. (Or just remove it)

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

Well you can use Super Gameboy 2, Gameboy Player on the Gamecube, 3DS Virtual Console and I believe there are some other devices such as Everdrive etc. which will also allow you to emulate a game onto console.

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

Wow yeah that Co-op LADX would have been so awesome to race in if it was complete! I can imagine people trolling and just waiting by Dungeon entrances for someone else to open them with their key and then just stroll on in like "Don't mind me :)" LOL

Alright thanks for testing that Yippyo :) I have done some more testing in regards to the 3DS VC version of the game which I have been pretty unsure about. I discovered that even on a 1.2 US Rom with any filename (on emulator) you can still warp to the opening of the game from the chest so I decided to try it out on my 3DS to see if I could do it on that as well.

Thankfully 3DS VC has a save state feature built in so I could do many attempts without any backtracking. Every time it would instantly crash and there were no graphical changes on the screen or any kind of warps to the opening or anywhere else. I know this isn't JP 3DS but I feel like it's a close enough test since it works on emulator for US 1.2 to get to the opening.

EnglandGreenTunic8 years ago

So I want to know what people's thoughts are on ACE if it is determined that it cannot be done on console or on virtual console. So far I have attempted to recreate the credits warp or any warp at all for that matter on versions 1.0 and 1.1 gameboy color carts with no success. I believe there to now be a consistent way of checking on console with a method I will post below:

The only other platform I haven't tested is the 3DS Virtual Console as I don't have a JP system to try it out. If anyone has or knows of anyone who has one that could test this, we could know whether it is emulator exclusive or not. Perhaps I am also being dumb and not doing it right on console and someone could try it out now for themselves too to see :)
