You don't launch 1.0c through Voobly? I still see you play there.
You want to run on 1.4RC, 1.4 or 1.5?
It affects the way AI reacts, makes it behave more like HD.
Just set a lobby on voobly with patch 1.0c and it will keep those settings (just play in intermediate lobby where you never go otherwise anyways)
I thought Mh initial point against it was that it was not 'official' patch. Anyways, with how easy it is to play on 1.0c on Voobly, I don't think adding userpatch is really necessary.
If that would be possible, I wouldn't ask this question :)
I want to play a game in singleplayer mode and have someone cocast what I do. When you normally stream with OBS you got the 15s delay.
What is the easiest setup to share what I see on screen with someone without noticeable delay?
Does this take much CPU, hence limiting streaming ability at the same time?
That only works if the level is independent by what happened in the rest of game.
This is why it only works for some games, best example probably are RTS games.
Have fun with doing Fighting Force speedruns!
I hope you still want try and even submit a run of the William Wallace campaign in AoE2 which you showed interest in!
You select each mission through menu, they are all independent.
Don't think switching scenarios is really that great, but kills an option to play AoK since it doesn;t have the expansion campaigns. Could seperate this to 2 categories maybe.
About 5th saladin mission, this one is kinda surprising. The triggers and AI script are all the same and just copied (afaik) Nothing says anything about deleting gates, so it is a difference in AI behaviour itself that deletes gates.
Should you stick with one version for all campaigns (so either HD or AoC).
Or is it possible to use AoK partially. While AoK is terrible to handle in some aspects, it saves 5+ min on Barbarossa, especially Henry the Lion with the glitch.
If possible, how to handle switching between versions midrun?
Some input/thoughts from someone that doesn't run this game with plays around a bit with age of empires II.
- Difficulty I agree with RC1985 that the game should be ran on the highest difficulty, if that is runnable. I can understand it is too difficult in some games to manage it, but on the other easy is often too easy and less interesting.
Running both options divides the runners and would be best to decide on either easy or difficult. So more competition exists in that category
- In Age of Empires 2 you can perform actions while the game is paused, which it also does when opening a menu. For this reason real time is the best option. Only downside is that you can lose some time when your pc can't handle it, which only seems to happen when streaming requires too much from your pc and you should use lower settings for streaming.
This game is run on 2x speed, and forbids higher speed which came available in the HD release of the game. It seems like your series has different problems with availability of much higher speed. In my opinion it is important that you can perform actions/micro and playing on too high speed reduces that. It will depend on the game what works best. You want to have ingame time to be as fast as possible (optimal route) but doesn't necessarily use it as timer.

Using higher resolutions (which was standard introduced with HD release, and considered standard in the competitive scene on the original game) is completely fine for Age of Empires 2. It allows to play the game more optimally, which leads to better and more interesting runs. I wonder if it really hurts your series to play on higher resolution, or whether it gives viewers a better overview and also less annoying scrolling of the whole screen constantly. The "scrolling" skill part isn't something that contributes to anything and you should be moving around with hotkeys anyway.
1m 44s is the time he gets for using the moment he gains control of his units till the victory. His time is obviously wrong
Your run goes from late 0:04 till 1:40 which means it should be 1:35 and can't be 1:33. (if you start after loading.
Rules say: Timing starts after you click Play and ends when "You are Victorious" appears at the end of the scenario.
In this case both runs use a wrong timing and this should be fixed. We need an admin that wants to be active for AoE3 and be strict about these timings.
You can use http://www.aoccs.net/aochd/ to play AoE2 HD on original engine.
(Don't run on userpatch for speedrunning)
It would definately be easier to run campaigns out of order, so you can skip easy/slow levels for last.
But I will still vote for 1
In addition, All campaign run feels odd. We spread it over an original game and its expansion. Does this mean you have to run all the levels in the expansion version? Can you do the original ones on original version and rest on expansion? Can you switch between them whenever you like?
Update:
Tarik1: hard to execute, quit trying that one for now. Can barely pull it off in all visible/1.5x speed once in a while, too hard/risky for now. Can try an attempt with some more army.
Sundjata 1: Win when enemy only has 2 stable + 1 archery left, should be possible in feudal with m@A rushing it down. But with randomness of army leaving base to attack your base, or defend at home is not understandable for me, so I'll do a try in castle age.
Sundjata 2: Can do a faster time by just going red -> green -> teal, will try some time later for recording on fast speed.
Fran 1: Haven't tried this one anymore.
I got a lot of stuff for Fran 1
- Order of getting your troops back, I go for the camp with pikes in the wood, so you can kill the 'target' for 500g and after that ram -> monks.
With enemies on neutral, you can use the missionary to convert the transport ship and use that to already kill the 4 mills to skip the last part of the level.
You can use the main monk to convert a villager, since you have 500g and can get 500g more. Option 1: get monastery, get redemption, convert buildings to speed up destroying them Option 2: build houses, build siege workshop, get rams Option 3: ??
It is quite tough to actually kill the army of the opponent fast, so instead of purely rushing this needs a more careful approach. Not sure about how to do this optimally.
I think some strat where you use the monks to convert the buildings in one of the towns would be the fastest approach.
Let's have a thread where we can brainstorm a bit about ideas and approaches.
First of all for what I've seen so far from chazzy.
- Tarik 1, got 13:07 on test run, hope to get recorded run on fast speed soon.
- Yodit 1 can probably be few seconds faster without using units from the camp and just running directly through, really risky, but for purely IL probably works
- Fran 4, would be nice to get some plans on this one, so whole Fran campaign is done, which is the only one that can be decently done of AK.
- Fran 5, A really long run, enemies resign on <5 military and no castles/tc. No need to spend time on converting villagers.
For the campaigns you can extract them with Campaign manager: http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=5613
This allows you already to scan the triggers set in the campaign
You can also upload the AI files in triggerstudio, to see how they behave. http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=12103
For example resign rules for them: (building-type-count castle < 1) (building-type-count archery-range < 1) (building-type-count barracks < 1) (building-type-count stable < 1) (building-type-count siege-workshop < 1) (military-population <= 20) Berber
(building-type-count town-center < 1) (building-type-count castle < 1) (military-population <= 5) Sundjata
Good luck with African Kingdoms attempts. After doing a playthrough so many level have huge bases with castles and towers, you have to kill all to win. Will be tough to get speedy runs in.
I would love to have more runners for Age of Empires 2. Currently working on getting best strategies on each IL, whole campaign runs are still limited.
Anyway, how about you tell us what kind of games you like?
