I still havent even fully investigated strats, there are possible timesaves in 8-2 as well by using the strats the old TAS did
And No, RNG is not manipulatable past 1-2 unless you want to be finishing the level on the exact same frame every time
Basically, after much investigating possible timesaves, I figured out that you can use Mini Shroom in RTA to save nearly 20 seconds in 5-Ghost, and it only overall requires 1/18 RNG. this might seem really bad because with shell RNG added in, it totals up to a soul crushing 1/144, we are extremely close to finding RNG manip that works 100% of the time for the shell, which puts the RNG of this trick down to 1/18, which isnt too much worse than grinding shell before manip. I honestly think once this is used to get better any% times, we should split the any% leaderboard into no Elevator Skip, and Elevator Skip, because frankly, the category would be better off without this discovery. Opinions? suggestions? Id love to hear some feedback about this. and yes, sub 23 is RTA viable with ES strats.

OH SHIT BOIS BIG DISCOVERY WE IN THERE: I figured out there is a way to do cycle skip and grab fire flower at the same time, there are 2 methods: 1 requires grabbing it at the bottom, and still making the cycle through sheer movement optimization, and the other you grab it while you are setting up, which requires a frame perfect input (no consequence for failing the input). This allows those who use shell route to skip grabbing fire on 8-6, and skip fireworks on 8-6. This makes shell and fire route identical speeds for RTA. Lets go.

Its a frame perfect jump and only saves like 2 seconds
I think I can find a 100% consistient method with date/time manip. Purely manipulating within the level will probably max out at 60%, cause RNG is drawn a good bit from date and time

I probably got 41/50 with my method
cartridges of different languages all perform Identically RNG wise
Basically RNG is determined by several things: The date and time you booted up the game accurate to the second, Double Jumps, walljumps, Breaking blocks, throwing, the intro cutscene, and underground music. I have found an 80% consistient method of manipulating the date and time, and performing the right number of double jumps on 1-1, so that you most of the time get a blue shell on 1-2. Its still not fully consistient, because I suspect there is a 0.3 second window to start the game at the right time, and I havent yet identified that window, but if you want I can post the manipulation I do. I play on 3DS by the way so this method is 3DS only. ask 3zachm for OG DS manipulation.
I was going to TAS to figure out how many frames, but I figured that you might already know, so I just asked. cause with an actualy frame by frame setup™, this trick could be as consistient as a flagpole glitch for a top SMB runner
also I want a 22 SOB because that would be nice
