@ryedawg I'm mailing you the bill for my counseling because I think your post has actually damaged my mental health.
If adding a restriction to a speedrun makes it fun and interesting, it should be done. This is why those categories exist in the first place. No one wants to boot up ALTTP and clip through walls for two minutes to beat the game. Not everyone wants to just warp to the end of chambers in Portal.
If someone finds a run more fun by adding a restriction, more power to them. People should be allowed to speedrun however they want, and not be chastised by people who parade the idea "why do you want to go slow in a speedrun" because that's a horrible attitude to impose on others, and it implies that some categories have more prestige than others. Absolutely not.
Moreover.
If any of you who defend this Leaderboard change where are your runs on the leaderboard?
What does that have to do with it? Why does someone need credentials to have an opinion? Why are you attacking the individual instead of their position?
To help you understand your flawed arguments, I've linked appropriate reading. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority
@crazycharlieh mh is lovely. He's done a lot of growing up, as have I, and a handful of other people, over the years in this community. I miss his streams and wish he was live more often. They bring me back.
I don't think he should insinuate that a discussion with traction on the forums "won't change anything" and then term a nondescript group of people in the discussion "crybabies"
That's not moderating.
On topic. Any% No Major Skips is a great idea.
@S popularity for a run is a poor factor for adding it. Not having it on main boards can stunt growth.
I'd like to give it another shot myself. I'm for it
People would have to run the category for it to be legitimized
In lieu of what mh said I would imagine that if the category of any% dupeless became suddenly popular and had several active runners, it would be moved to the main boards.
The reason it's in CE is because it's more of a novelty category that no one runs seriously
I've tried @lelreset 's way of skipping the BP cutscene but it wasn't consistent enough. This way seems better for me, and you skip the cutscene slightly earlier too. My reference is when The Truth starts talking. It's very important to release the call ASAP. Here I get it 5x in a row.
Shit boys, guess I'm done for :(
Seriously though, is this the proof that you said you had? There's nothing against the rules in this screenshot. Your proof relies on your misinformed presumptions, not just on FLYING's copy of the game but also on your profoundly Olympian levels of jumping to conclusions with "speedrun.com promotes piracy" lmfao.
This has to be a troll. A bad one at that. There's no other way.
You know how when you steal a car from the passenger door while holding sprint, it kills the driver when they get out? Looks like that's what happened to you, a cop stole your car from the passenger door.
thriving's on the other hand is truly a mystery. Invisible fire maybe???
Cooller's approach is reasonable - a bit authoritative, but if done correctly it would work well. Forums like Something Awful and Facepunch operate in a similar manner; new threads are rare and almost all discussion takes place in an existing thread.
The downside is they can be cumbersome to read once a thread gets many pages long, and the same problem arises anyway: people won't sift through hundreds of pages of a technical support thread, for example, so they post their question and you'll end up with reposts. If all proper information to every possible problem is consolidated into the first post of the thread, then MAYBE you'll nullify reposts, but don't count on it.
@Joshimuz has already stated interest in appointing new mods - something I agree with as well, given that gtasa's only mods are those that are auto-appointed because they're GTA series mods. However, I am not eager to agree with coollertmb as a mod due to his history of shitposting.
My biggest problem is the attitude some of our community members harbor. It's vile and hateful and perpetuates negativity, counterproductivity, and is harmful to the community's health as a whole.
When people engage with the community or visit the forums and see hate, shit memes and generally gross behavior they're going to fuck off and go somewhere else. Rightfully so. We lose out on curious parties, potential runners and effectively stagnate because we treat each other and outsiders like garbage. This has to stop. It is completely unacceptable.
I garner enough bullshit in my day to day life. I would love to come to this community at the end of the day and wind down and connect with others over the games we love and the hobby we partake in. But I can't, because we treat each other terribly. So I end up avoiding the discord and forums as much as I can. It's not a home to me anymore.
That's where we should begin: changing the tone of the discussion. It's unhealthy and offputting as of now. Offending parties need to clean up the act and behave like adults. In regards to basic forum offenses like bumping old threads and posting useless shit, those threads should be locked once a mod has made an appropriate response to it.
Elsewhere, when people ask easy to answer questions, they should get one proper reply and that's the end of it. There is no need to shit up a thread with memes and hateful discussion. We should be able to trust our community to interact with our newcomers appropriately. We clearly can not. As such it comes back to my point: the tone of the discussion; the way we interact. It has to change. Full stop.
There is unfair timeloss due to the feature added in ginput to change aim styles on the fly. Not in the vanilla game. I am not installing a mod and hooking up a controller to take advantage of a time save that isn't even in the game to begin with. That, in my mind, is not a solution.
Nati, I agree with you. This entire thread is a shitfest and the organization is abhorrent. My problem is those that fail to recognize ginput adding an advantage that otherwise wouldn't exist. Which is the reason this thread is here. It is a problem that warrants discussion and collective problem solving. Not brigading and "us vs. them" behavior.
This thread ought to be closed and we ought to start over. The frustration runs deep on both sides. That's why clear communication is critical so that we can all come to a conclusion that we can all live with.
Ginput adds a benefit to the player that was never in the vanilla game to begin with. That is it. Full stop.
Dinput provides relief from a mouse issue that plagues some of the runners of this game.
The difference is, dinput provides no benefit to people that do not need it. If someone does not have a mouse problem, there's no benefit to using dinput.
Why is it fair that I lose time over others because I'm not using ginput? It's not, especially considering it adds a benefit that was never in the vanilla game to begin with. That is the problem and it is what we are trying to address.
If you don't see that that is a problem, I can see how you would be so unreasonably mad and draw lines in the sand. So recognize that this is unfair and let's come up with a mutually agreeable solution, instead of whining about it. We've got 15 pages of childish behavior and input from a crowd that really has no idea what they're talking about and refuses to educate themselves.
So let's start there, shall we?
This person, and everyone participating in the brigading, should be completely ashamed and disallowed to participate in the vote.
On one hand, I think GInput's features do offer an unfair advantage.
On the other hand, I don't think those unfair advantages warrant such a heated discussion. It's kind of ridiculous getting so worked up about and creating an "us vs. them" environment.
Lastly, brigading the vote because your favorite runner uses GInput goes against the principle of this vote.
It's not like he's still trying to pass it off as an RTA.
video title
Nice work. Now, why don't you change the title to make it obvious this run is not legit any% RTA?
Edit: You said you wouldn't read this thread, but you liked my post. FLYING more like LYING tbh
Anyway, thanks for giving me more YouTube material. I made about 600 bucks off of you the first time, so it's very generous of you to continue to keep the cashflow going. I appreciate it :)
