I have been a player of PTCGO for a very long time and a moderator of this game since 2017. No matter how everything plays out, I'm proud to have been even a small part of these boards. Even if this is kind of a meme run full to the brim with rng, seeing the boards go from one or two runs to a little over thirty on the gold category alone as well as the addition of the individual level category has been awesome.

When PTCGO officially goes, it will suck... big time, but it was definitely fun while it lasted.

So I have not talked to Ou7c4st about it, and I honestly do not know how things like this are usually handled, but I assume this will stay up as a sort of archive separate from whatever is created for live. As a side note, I know they said that PTCGO will no longer receive new cards, but I also do not think they are shutting the servers down yet. So as far as I am aware, we will accept new runs as long as the game is functional.

Mod Note Retimed. Timing ends when victory pops up at the end of the game not when you leave the game entirely ^-^ from 15 to 12.

Yo! This is just a little arbitrary post letting everyone know we have now brought back the IL runs. Its been a good while since they were on the boards, so have fun! Also, these runs will be timed with the in-game timer. It's a little out of the way to get to now-a-days, but if you have any question about how to show your in-game time, please join the discord and ask! good luck in your runs!

I changed the wording of the rules to be more clear. Previously the rules said, "time ends when you beat the last opponent" and has now been updated to say, "time ends when Win pops up after defeating the last opponent." I feel this wording is less open and more clear.

The current timing rules for the start have not been changed however and remain, "timing begins when you select story mode." My question is if this should be changed to start when you select the first fight in story mode, rather than when you choose story mode itself.

Posting for transparency.

Hi! I am a mod and runner for ggx advance. While there is a slot for us in the speedrunning discord, I thought I'd go ahead and make a dedicated discord for guilty gear. If this link does not work for you, please feel free to message me on any of the social medias connected to my account. If there is already a guilty gear speedrunning discord, i could not find it. I know our community is small, but I'm hoping having a general gathering ground will help us grow! I would recommend joining the fighting game discord as well as this one. https://discord.gg/pMxdNgu

There are a few exceptions to buffering that i forgot to put in the main post. The main example of this comes from characters who cross there arms or do a more active charge animation. Take Potemkin for example. At the end of his charge animation he does a slight different animation. If you want to buffer for him, you have to start buffering during the second animation. From what i can tell, changes in animation will drop your inputs.

My personal short answer to this is no.

My reasoning and long answer is this. In my opinion, the point of a speedrun is to beat the game as fast as possible. You're attempting to push the game to its limits and get the it takes to beat the game down. Instant kills are an intended mechanic and help do this. They are fast on most characters and 100% should be and are allowed in every category. Until the game is more optimized and needs to be revamped, I don't believe disallowing usage of any strategy is the correct approach.

The second reason that I will give for this is the limited number of active player on this game at the moment. There are only three of us. Splitting up competition even more than it already is would not be good in my opinion. We already have quite a few categories, with each character being split into its own separate category, that I feel more categories at our current point would split competition further and not be good for the game.

My third and final reason I will give at the moment is this. We just recently cleaned up the boards. Everything is nice at the moment and there are still categories that have no runs submitted. This kind of ads on to my last point, but i feel adding more clutter to the boards after just removing clutter is very counter productive. Lets fill in the empty runs, share the game around, and focus on optimizing strategies. Once everything is a little more optimized, we can revisit the idea of no instant kill boards because i believe, at their core, they aren't the worst idea. I feel like no instants could be super interesting eventually, I just feel like now isn't the time.

No one is stopping you from not using instant kills. While I personally speedrun this game to push it to its limits, it is completely viable to just speedrun it for fun. At the end of the day you SHOULD be speedrunning this game for fun and if not using instant kills is fun for you, go for it! Your runs will be accepted with or without them. Sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted and hopefully i make sense with my reasoning. I look forward to seeing more runs submitted by you in the future.

Since we do not have a dedicated discord at the moment, I decided to make this thread to share what little tech i have found so far in this game. With the fastest way to play the game in most cases being instant kills, there isn't much room for actual tech. I'm hoping that characters like faust, may, and dizzy, where the instant kill is gratuitously slow, will bring light to some cool tricks.

The first and only real tech i have found in the game so far is something I'm going to call buffering. Its not very hard to do but is a slight time saver. In this game, inputs can be buffered while in animations. This applies to most things I've tried from charging before an instant kill to laying on the ground. The best way to explain this is with a scenario where you are sol and you are using your instant kill. The fight starts, you tap the button you use to charge, then when the charge animation nears its end, start the inputs for your instant kill. you want your last input to happen right as the animation ends. The attack should come out just slightly faster than normal.

The other thing that i was going to add to this post is how to do instant kills. Ever character has the same inputs to preform instant kill. After charging, the inputs are quarter circle forward, quarter circle forward, heavy. The only two character that this does not work for are dizzy and may. May's instant kill is Half circle forward, half circle forward, heavy. Dizzy has no instant kill.

Hopefully what i said makes sense, if not i can make a quick video explaining what i mean. I'm much better with vocal words than i am with written ones. I will also be adding to this post whenever i discover anything new. you can buffer things in most games and I'm not sure if buffering in the game was known before this post, but now its out there.

I would be down to remove the easy and hard boards. We could turn the normal boards into either an any difficulties board or leave it as normal. I would like to keep very hard as a board though. In favor of making the boards look more clean though, I would be ok with removing easy and hard, as they do not really add anything to the boards.

South Carolina, USAKojr554 years ago

I've thought about this kind of category, but I've never got around to adding it. A full game run would be neat, but I'm not sure how to go about the semantics of the run. The category would probably allow any difficulty. It would start when you pick you first character then end after win pops up on dizzy on your last character.

Some of my hold ups though are things like deciding if characters like dizzy and testament should be included. Since they arnt on the starting roster. I lean towards yes but I have no prior knowledge of other fighting games, so I'm not sure how to go about it.

I'd definetly be interested to hear dbcade's input on this topic though, as he is more versed in fighting game runs than I am.

While I do think the boards need to be cleaned up a bit, I'm personally in favor of keeping each difficulty seperate. Finding a way to make each character appear on the front page would definitely be nice though.

The next TAS I do will probably be a full roster run on very hard. I won't include testiment or dizzy but a full roster run would be a neat TAS. It may never happen, it may happen tomorrow, but it is something I'm interested in.

South Carolina, USAKojr554 years ago

So i thought i would share this TAS i made. I've had theories that sub 4 was possible and wanted to test it out. Turns out, it is possible, but it is super tight. It is 100% human viable BUT you have to have the most insane luck ever. I may do this with a few other characters.

I would like to both ask if it would be possible, and see if there would be any interest in categories for separate difficulties. With the current way things are set up, I could see most runs being done on beginner. I feel like there could be more strategy in running the harder difficulties. As of right now, the run i just submitted only includes me kicking over and over as the bots on easy do not block often. Theres no need for me to do combos in this case, as they would probably lose me time.

I know there are not a lot of people who run this game at the moment, but i feel like this idea is something to stew on. I personally do not know to much about the king of fighters series, so i may also just be wrong in my assumption. I thought I'd put the idea on the table though.

Hi! I would like to request moderation privileges for Guilty Gear X: Advance Edition. (link for easy access to the leaderboards https://www.speedrun.com/Guilty_Gear_X_Advance_Edition )

Currently, there is only one mod for this game. He has been inactive for three months and has no linked social media other than a dead Stream.me link. ( https://www.speedrun.com/user/Cl9000 for easy access to the mod) If you also just happen to know of any other way to reach out to this mod i would much appreciate it.
