This guide tries to provide helpful advice for tricks that are typically used during Any% speedruns.

[section=W4 - A Town in Chaos]
**__Blue Musicbox early__**
To execute this trick move to the room past the Gray Key room and use the zombie transformation to get to the lower floor. Once you are down, push the boiler to the left wall. Now you will have to clip into the boiler.
There are multiple ways to clip into the boiler's hitbox:

* **Pausebuffer:**
 Walk up to the boiler and turn away from it. Start a Dash and pause on the first frame of it. You can now buffer a Left input, by simply holding it while you unpause. On the first frame after the game has unpaused you need to initiate a slide towards the boiler (which is why you buffered the left input). Any later and you have a high risk of softlocking.

* **Vlack-bufferless method:**
 This method was found by Vlack. It requires you to repeatedly start and cancel a Dash by switching directional input and pressing B with the correct timing.

* **Tore-bufferless method:**
 Tore found this method of clipping. For this you perform the same inputs as the Pausebuffer methods uses without a pausebuffer. Optimally you can fully clip on the first attempt. This is very rare though keeping human reflexes and ability in mind. Most of the time you will clip halfway (very rarely you will softlock). You can repeat the input from the halfway clipped state to complete the clip.

As long as you are halfway clipped (neither fully clipped(being able to walk around inside the boiler) nor in a softlock placement(unable to move at all)) the boiler will try to push you out of its hitbox. To avoid this hold down. If you are neither in a Dash-animation nor holding Down you will be pushed out.
After you are fully clipped into the boiler's hitbox you want to dash against the wall and have the boiler fall exactly where you'd land from the rebound so it pushes you out of bounds. For this you have two options:

* Relying on Luck:
 Dash against the wall. If the screen doesn't start scrolling in wierd directions and the boiler doesn't disappear, you can either load the game again if you saved after clipping or just clip and try again.
* Manipulating the Boiler:
 For this you need to dash against the wall and pause on the first frame after bouncing off it. As the screen fades it should look like this.

 Save as soon as you get on the pause screen. You now need to press A to continue on the title screen on the first frame it is possible to do so. You can either mash for this or try to time it.
 (Quick tip: If the little downwards pointing triangle next to "Continue" is white as the screen starts to fade back to the game, you didn't press it on the first frame. It needs to be blue when the screen fades, but just because it's blue doesn't mean you hit it on the correct frame.)

If you did it correctly, the screen will start scrolling in several directions, loading visuals and actors of other rooms in the process. Just dash against the wall again, to stabilise the screen scrolling. If you did it correctly the geometry of the lower floor and some zombies should be loaded. This means you are essentially still in the same room, but the visual backgrounds changed and you loaded zombies on the lower floor.

Depending on how many times you press back (screen scrolls), you will get a different background. If you dash into the wall after the boiler glitch, you should get the normal background which also can be achieved by pressing back twice. Should you press back 3 times, the trick will still work, but the background will be completely different. This matters because you're about to do a wall clip. Down below are pictures of where to stand in each background.

If you walk to the right there is a block in your way near where a Music Coin is. Jump over it and keep heading right while avoiding the spawning zombies(do not kill the zombies) until you can't anymore. There is an invisible right in front of you that you need to clip into at a height which the zombies can hit you so you transform while in the wall. As soon as you transformed inside the wall hold A to climb up to the top. After the screen scrolled up and you stopped climbing walk right and fall through the plank. The door to the Shoot fight is invisible but still in the same place it normally would be.

[section=N4 - Bank of the Wild River]
**__Getting to Gray Chest without Double-Finned Flippers__**
If you didn't get the swimming upgrade, you will have to clip up 4 ledges with only one-block space to get back after collecting the Gray Key.

[section=S1 - The Grasslands]
**__Accessing Green Treasure Area without Fantastic Flute__**
Jump up to the platform with the snakepot. Move to the very left pixel of that platform. From here perform a Dashjump. You want to clip into the wall on the opposite side, but since Wario is offscreen when he's about to hit the wall it is quite difficult to time it correctly.
From here you can continue as normal to collect the green treasure.

[section=S3 - Tower of Revival]
**__Skipping Blue Snake door__**

For this trick go to the screen where the Gray Key is located, which is up the ladder from the starting screen. Float up to the platform where the Doughnuteer is located. Push him on the lower part of the platform to the left. Afterwards stand in this position:

It is recommended to save as soon as both you and the doughnuteer are in position. Wait until the doughnuteer is about to throw a donut then start your Dash.
Turn around mid air by pressing Right the frame before you hit the wall to clip. Again only hold the right input for one frame for this clip like you would do for any other. Immediately after pressing right start holding down in order for Wario to use his groundpound. It is advised to pausebuffer after the Right-Input so you don't hold it for to long and can buffer the Down-input for the groundpound. Now press Left to clip into the wall. If done correctly the donut the Doughnuteer threw just before you scrolled him off screen should hit Wario during his stunanimation after hitting a solid surface with the groundpound and you should be clipped into the wall while fat. Climb the wall by repeatedly pressing A until you get out at the balcony.
From here dash off to the left and hold Left. Wait until Wario wrapped around the screen one time, start holding A and Right as soon as Wario is about midway through the screen after wrapping around one time. The placement from where you start the Dash is important. If you start Dashing from the wrong place the screen will scroll in a wrong way and you won't trigger the Pneumo. After you got hit by the Pneumo and turned into Puffy-Wario hold Right until you come to a stop at the wall. Keep floating up until Wario leaves the top of the screen and reappears at the bottom. Now keep holding Left until you deflate. You should have a Music Coin on screen but not Wario.
 
You will be on top of the level now. Dash to the left 4 times. There will be a small pit in front of you, that you do not want to fall into. You can save for the upcoming jump since it is rather precise. Now start a Dash which you will have to jump out of with rather precise timing. If done correctly the screen will shake a little bit but nothing else will happen. If you fall down you will see Wario falling from the top of the screen.
After you crossed the gap keep heading Left until you drop down a gap that doesnt visually exist. You are now in the first room behind the blue door without it's corresponding visuals or actors loaded. To advance just walk right until you're near the gray key. The pipe to the next room is, though invisible, right in front of you now.

 
**__Early Crater Map__**

To get the Green Treasure early in S3 follow the instructions for skipping past the blue door up until you are above the level again. Make your way up to the gap you would normally drop down into to get into the area past the blue door and jump over it (one of the setups for this is to dash 3 times after crossing the first gap and then executing a Dashjump). There is another gap that is hard to cross right in front of you. Again this jump might require several tries and it is advised to save before doing it.
After you made it across keep holding Left until you drop down. Keep holding Right while dropping down. After Wario wrapped around the screen one time the green chest rooms geometry should be partially loaded. Use the invisible nets to make your way to the right and up. After some invisible spikes you will drop down to a lower alcove. Here is an invisible pipe near where you see the ladder that would go back to the first floor. Before entering make sure you saved at least once after getting on top of the level, because otherwise you will have a high chance of crashing upon entering the pipe!!
Now go down the pipe, which will lead you to a glitched room (sometimes referred to as disco room, OoB, etc.). After you have entered this room softresetting or hardresetting will delete your file data. If you save&quit while in the room your data will also be deleted. Also if you move the wrong way there is a possibility of softlocking or crashing which will also delete your data. To avoid this you will have to exit the level or save&quit after exiting the glitched room.
Move through both glitched rooms exactly as done in the above video.
If you did it correctly you will appear near the Yellow Snake Door in the Green Treasure Room. Complete this room like you would ordinarily. You will have to use a wall clip to get out of the little pit with the green key in it. Avoid falling down to the right at all costs, because you don't have a way back up again, since you haven't gotten the Wire Wizard yet. After having completed the level make sure you reset at least once (getting back to title screen in any way works), because doors will have lost their normal functionality and hardlock you if you try to enter one.


[section=S5 - Cave of Flames]
**__Grey chest__**
A new strat in this level. Saves about 2 seconds over the currently used one.

[section=E6 - East Crater]
**__Golden Gloves early__**
This trick is used if you haven't gotten the Steel Overalls yet.
Work your way down to the lowest floor. Destroy the big cracked block on the very left side of the 2nd lowest level by jumping at it from below (you don't want to break the block right from that one). You can now destroy the blocks you used as a stepladder to break that block. Jump on the blocks blocking the way to the right and from them to the left in such a way that the Pneumo on the 2nd level follows you down. Get hit by the pneumo and deflate at the blocks on the left. Now bait the pneumo into the lower left "room" where the gray key resides at the top and the frog blocks your advance. Get hit by the Pneumo to float up to the key and collect it.
Now you just need to jump into the fire to get rid of the 2 frogs blocking your way to the gray chest.

Basics, Tricks and Movement

This guide aims to provide information about movement tech, clips and basic things for going fast.

[section=Basic Things]
**__Movement Speeds__**
There are 3 main horizontal ways of movement. The main thing to pay attention to is that every time Wario's feet leave the ground and then touch it again (i.e jumping, dropping down a ledge) or at the end of every Dash Wario's horizontal speed is set to 0 (or at least lowered by a bit).

* Walking
This should be your main form of movement when you want to traverse a longer horizontal distance without any obstacles in the way.
* Dashing
Dashing as a main form of movement is slower than walking.  Try to dash as little as possible.
* Dashjumping
If you want to avoid smaller obstacles (enemies, small blocks, etc.) or want to cover horizontal and vertical distance at the same time this should be your movement of choice.

 

**__Cutscene Interactions__**
There are a few places where you can save time with an input even when you don't have direct control of Wario.

* Holding the corresponding directional input when Wario is walking in cutscenes will make him walk a bit faster. This saves about 1.5 seconds if done during the intro and when you enter the temple to confront Rudy.
* Holding Down when there's text scrolling on screen speeds it up.
* After opening a chest you can hold A instead of mashing it to advance to the score screen on the first possible frame.



**__Breaking Blocks__**
**Before Garlic upgrade**
Dashing straight against cracked blocks will bounce you back and slightly upwards. More optimally you want to break them using a Dashjump.

* If you jump out of the Dash on the frame before you hit the blocks and there's no cieling directly above you, you can break up to two rows of blocks.
* Hitting blocks with the end of a Dashjump will allow you to recover quicker than a normal Dashjump.
* Just Dashjumping against blocks let's you still recover faster than a normal Dash.

**After Garlic upgrade**
Often it is more optimal to use a normal Dash to break blocks, because it goes further.
The rules that applied to normal cracked blocks, now apply to the hard blocks.
There are still exceptions to this rule of thumb, though.

 
**__Skipping transformation animations__**
If Wario hits an enemy during a transformation, the animation for the transformation gets cancelled in favor of the interaction Wario's transformed state has with the enemy.
This is mostly useful for skipping the "Turning-Fat"-animation. Obviously if a transformation has no special animation, there's also nothing to skip.

 
**__Quick Boilerpushing__**
Walk up to the side of the boiler turn away from it and initiate a Dash. Stop the Dash by turning around immediately and repeat the process. This avoids bouncing back every time you hit the boiler with a Dash.
 



[section=Movement Tech]
 **__Sliding__**
If you press down anytime during a Dash, Wario goes into a slide motion. This is useful to fall down one block wide gaps directly. It also has way more initial horizontal speed than just crawling so you want to avoid crawling in favor of sliding as much as possible. Eventhough Wario's movement slows down near the end of the slide, you can cancel out of the slide simply by jumping.

 
**__Enemybounce__** 
(Requires Jumping Boots)
If you jump after throwing an enemy upward you can bounce off of him midair. This allows you to gain more height than normal jumps.

* Small enemies:
For small enemies throw them upwards, immediately jump after the throw, hold slightly Forward and keep holding A and up until you bounce of the enemy.
* Big enemies:
For bigger enemies you need to charge your upwards throw. The timing for the jump is also a bit tighter, so this is a lot trickier.



**__Cornerboosting__**
If you jump at a corner from below with most of Wario's hitbox behind the corner, Wario gets a horizontal push until the rest of his model is past the corner. This gives Wario a few pixels of horizontal distance.

 
 
[section=Clipping/Walljumping]
Wario has multiple ways of clipping into walls in this game which can again be used for different things. This is sometimes referred to as a walljump. For simplicity sake I will just refer to it as clipping.
To clip into walls Wario has to be a specific distance away from the wall he wants to clip into, which means there are specific pixel positions that allow him to clip. There are most of the time multiple possible placements for every wall to clip.

 
**__[center]Setting up[/center]__**
Dash against a wall and bounce back. A possible pixel will be 3-4 pixels away from the place you bounced to. It varies between every wall if it is 3 or 4 pixels. Finding the right pixel for the first time can be a lot of trial and error.
After you found a pixel that works for you it's best to remember a visual cue. For example lining wario's feet or the edge of the screen up with something.

**__[center]Ways of clipping[/center]__**
There are 2 main ways of clipping
**__Dash__**
After setting up in the correct position, turn towards the wall and initiate a Dash. Now press away from the wall two frames before you'd hit it to cancel the Dash.
On the first frame of this turn animation you still have some freedom. You can choose to jump, press towards the wall or just press nothing:

* Jumping will get you into a state where the clip is stored and you can clip by pressing towards the wall
* Pressing a directional input towards the wall (and keeping that input pressed) will store the clip state (visually you'll see Wario just walking up against the wall). If you release the directional input, Wario will get forced into a crouch state. While walking Wario is still clipped, which means if he's transformed during his walk cycle he will still be clipped into the wall.
* If you don't press anything Wario will just clip into the wall with one pixel of his hitbox forcing you to crouch.


**__Dashjump__**
This method is set-up exactly like the normal Dash method. You initiate a Dashjump by pressing B and then immediately A. This time you have to press away from to wall you want to clip into one frame before you hit it. This directional input should only be for one frame, which is why a lot of people pausebuffer it. Your horizontal momentum will die and you will start dropping down. As soon as you press towards the wall again you will clip into it.

**__[center]Uses of Clipping[/center]__**
Just clipping into walls doesn't sound useful, but there are multiple ways you can use clipping to your advantage.
 
**Height Gain**
The most common use of Wallclips is to gain height and get up to places you're not supposed to get to, from your starting point.
If you use the Dashjump method gaining height is trivial. You trigger the clip as soon as you enter the clip-state and because the game always pushes you up to the next block height when you clip, you can get up ledges that were barely out of reach.
Using the Dash-method you gain height by jumping on the first frame of the turn animation and then pressing towards the wall at any point of your jump to clip into the wall.
 
**Transformation Climbing**
If you are in a clipped state and transform into either Fat Wario, Vampire Wario, Zombie Wario or Spring Wario you can jump while clipped into a wall, which is normally impossible, and start clipping upwards block by block allowing you to "climb" walls. This can be used to clip through walls or gain a lot of height.
 

**__[center]Special clips[/center]__**
**Waterclip**
There is no good way to find possible placements for this clip. There are a few pixels that people have found to work, so it's best to just use those at first.
After setting up in the correct postion you need to fall in the water on a certain frame of your Dash animation, which is easier than it sounds, because most pixel setups only require you to dash from your starting position.
If you performed
 
**Enemybounce clip**
It is possible to clip after an enemy bounce. This technique can be used to clip to places that are extraordinarily high.
Placement for this is very specific and you have to take both the arc the enemy takes when you throw him and of course the wall you want to clip into in account.
If you are set up in the correct position, throw the enemy upwards and as soon as possible start a Dashjump. Keep holding A and up so you actually bounce of the enemy.
If you bounced correctly you will be in a clipped state the same way as if you used the Dashjump method to clip with the only difference being you still have upwards momentum from bounching off the enemy. Now just press towards the wall as soon as you want to clip.
 
**1-Block-wide Clip**
This way of clipping is used when you have only a one block wide space infront of the wall you want to clip into, which means you can't position yourself far enough from the wall for any of the normal clipping methods.
For this method you stand a pixel away from the wall you want to clip into and look away from it. Initiate a Dash and turn around when you're about to fall off. Start another Dash on the first frame of the turn animation.
Now you'll dash towards the wall. If done correctly you're Dash will have the same properties as the normal Dash-Clipping-method.

Timesaving Tricks

This guide tries to provide information on several timesaving tricks that are usable across multiple categories. All time save indications are if you get it right in the first try, and are compared to the intended way or the old way of doing things.

[section=N1 - Out of the Woods]
**__Spider Skip__**

Time save: **45 sec.**

To skip the Spiderboss, Anonster, you have to perform an enemy-bounce wallclip.
Pick up one of the webballs the boss spits after it touched the ground and position yourself here:

You have time to set this up since Anonster won't spit another web until the one that's currently on screen disappears.
Wait until the boss starts moving right again then throw the webball upwards and immediately initiate a Dashjump. Keep holding A and Up so you get height when you bounce of the webball. If done correctly Wario should turn around by himself just before he collides with the wall and get upwards momentum. Now you will have to press Right with a really tight timing to clip at the correct height into the wall.
From here you need to wait for Anonster to spit another web at you, drop out of the wall by pressing left and then bounce off the webball midair to get up to the small platform. From here just perform a Dashjump to get to the chest. If you don't wait with your throw until he moves right he might shoot the web from a place where you can't bounce off of it.

[section=N2 - The Peaceful Village]
**__Chestroom-transformation-climb__**

Time save: **10 sec.**

This transformation climb is done by storing the clip with the walk animation, because Wario can't be transformed into fat Wario while crouching. Start your Dash towards the right as soon as you enter the room. Clip like you normally would but press Right on the first frame of the turning animation in order to store the clip and wait for the doughnuteer to throw his donut at you. If done correctly you will be clipped into the wall and fat Wario.
Essentially this trick boils down to pressing left for a single frame with the correct timing and immediately pressing right again.

[section=N6 - Sea Turtle Rocks]
**__Squid Skip__**

Time save: **27 sec.**

Set this up like you would any other clip.
The main difficulty with this clip is that you will have to wait until you have no more upwards momentum from your jump to actually clip into the wall or else Wario will just break one of the blocks above him and get pushed out again, making you drop down and forcing you to fight the Squidboss.


[section=W1 - Desert Ruins]
**__Clip to gray key__**

Time save: **4 sec.**

Becored came up with a setup to get into the correct position for this clip fast. Walk up to the very right side of the little alcove to your right after entering the Gray Key room, turn around and do two quick Dashjumps.
From this point you need to dash and just before you're about to fall of turn around and jump. Press Right at the top of your jump you will clip into the wall just below the little key alcove and can jump into it with a crouch jump.

 

[section=W2 - The Volcano's Base]
**__Dollboy skip__**

Time save: **7 sec.**

For this trick you will have to execute an unbuffered Dashjump clip with no visual cue.
It is recommended to set this clip up on the pipe as soon as you enter the fight. Correct positioning is 3 steps away from the wall after bouncing back from it with a Dash.
Jump up to the highest platform and initiate a Dashjump. You will have to press backwards for one frame and immediately right again 2 frames before you collide with the wall. There is no way to pausebuffer this clip, because you are unable to pause during boss fights.


 
[section=W3 - The Pool of Rain]
**__Clip with enemy__**

Time save: **1,5 sec.**

For this clip you use the enemy on the ledge after the first set of poles to clip up. This skips raising the poles with groundpounds.
There are two (maybe more/needs confirmation) possible placements from which you can initiate the clip.

You need to dash, jump and hit the Paragoom before he turns around/during the start of his turn around animation. Hold A and Right while hitting the Paragoom or else you won't clip up immediately.

[section=W4 - A Town In Chaos]
**__First Boiler Strat__**

Time save: **6 sec.**

Use the boiler in the gray key room to get back out through the window where you came from. This trick depends on RNG as it varies how far you will push the boiler with each dash. You have to be able to push the boiler twice while in the air, using the turn away dash method to cancel the knock back on the first hit.

Upon testing this 100 times in a row, I found that it's a pretty even 50/50 split whether the RNG allows for you to carry the boiler to the other platform. /pr0te

[section=S2 - The Big Bridge]
**__Waterclip__**

Time save: **10 sec.**

There are two common setups for this water clip storage.
Some positions for the first option are:

From here just dash against the wall and you will have the clip stored.
The second one requires you to perform a rather tight jump out of a Dash. You will be in the correct placement immediately after exiting the door from the Blue Key room.
From here turn left and initiate a Dash. You need to jump in a way that you bounce off the wall across from you and directly into the water without any directional input inbetween. This jump is rather tight and might take some tries.
After you have a clip stored, swim into the blue chest room and clip into the wall next to the little alcove where the ladder up to the blue chest is.

[section=S3 - Tower of Revival]
**__Falling wall clip__**

Time save: **4,5 sec.**

¤Requires Spiked Helmet¤
This trick can be used when getting the green chest early. Stand as in the picture, do a dash and turn back right before hitting the wall just like a regular walljump. Right after turning back, do a jump and let Wario fall all the way down to just beneath the pink blocks. Now press left towards them and clip in under them, destroying them with your head. Jump up, and dash through the rest of the blocks, saving 4,5 seconds from the normal way. Although, this is still quite precise and since it only saves 4,5 seconds (when you get it first try), most runners will not go for it in good runs.

**__Boiler despawn__**

Time save: **2,5 sec.** (Depending on your walljump)

This is a yolo trick, but will lose you very little, if any at all, time when you go for it. The trick is to clip about 1/3 into the boiler using the fast bufferless technique. If you keep holding down after the clip, the camera will quickly scroll down, despawning the boiler and the Para-Goom, allowing you to run right past it, and go directly to the walljump, instead of going underneath the boiler, climbing the ladder, getting the walljump and waiting for the Para-Goom to make room for you to jump up.

**__Yolo fire jump__**

Time save: **2,5 sec.**

This one is mandatory to go for, as it simply cannot lose you any time. Just like the yolo doughnut clip in N2 Red. For this trick, you simply need to spam A as fast as you can before falling into the torch. If you're lucky, you'll hit A on the first frame when Wario is set on fire. This will allow him to jump. Since the time you spent being on fire is determined but how long you've spent on the ground (if you jump a lot, it will take forever to run out), this is faster because you have to jump one less time than the normal way.

**__Waterclip__**

Time save: **20 sec.**

There is a multitude of possible placements and ways to store the clip for this trick. Here are a few that just require you to dash from the starting point:
