i got a google docs comment that said you only keep the crouch hitbox for 3 frames, because it goes away when the dash animation ends and the falling one starts - but if you (c)ddj the hitbox is stored and you can still costume clip
i did a little bit of testing to find really short save codes to load into each level on the world map, here's what i found. sunset- m ut- x cc- b sw- 14 void- wa grounds- c tower- my stasis- 67 (main levels only, ex levels locked) stasis- m45h16gg81w (all ex levels unlocked, none completed) ppath- wahazz (all ex levels completed, ppath unlocked)
this pb is old as fuck dude, i'm not even ddj-ing. and i can totally do fast bubble mage if i practice it - time to get a 46
https://www.speedrun.com/chirpy_reverie/run/ydgxl9wy reposting the current tower wr to this forum thread so y'all can see how much faster this is. can be done in 1ex second room with the thing that shows you how to dash jump
it gets better:
flawless essence takes damage when the Characters in Cutscenes sprite touches it (seen in a standard run as Eryn jumping up to hit it with her spear). turns out, the static fragments at the end of EX levels are also in that sprite. so you get to the end of 1EX, essence will touch the static fragment, and you can dash into it 4 times to skip most of the fight. then do the 2EX wrong warp and let the fight end.
this cuts a minute off of tower, and you only have to clear 1ex in the fight. i will definitely come back to this later
for real. the in-game timer pauses in the screen transition, but Flawless Essence's attack patterns don't. this means that for every room you clear, you save 10 frames (1/3 of a second) igt. if you die outside of the boss room (or a static fragment room), you gotta green flag. but if you do it flawlessly, you can save a few seconds.
here's dillen's tower tas, where inputs end at the start of essence and he gets 2:14 -
and in this tas i add my own inputs to do the 1ex wrong warp and complete 1ex inside the fight, and finish with a 2:11 -
and that's just 1ex, during the first of 6 attack patterns. a tas might be able to clear the entire static game before the fight is over, and a real-time run could probably clear a few screens of 1ex.
i might come back to this later
tower 3rd room, spam upward cddjs into the left of the red block, and if the screen shakes just right, chirpy clips through it and can grab the key. if you get it as soon as possible, it skips most of the room. whether 3rbc saves time over my existing route is unknown, because i've got 4-5 2:28s with it, and a 2:28 without it. i'd need to make a new tas using the clip.
(you can also, as rex mentions in the twitch video, clip through the key block. <-- here's me doing it rta)
the current tas is 2:24, and it might be possible to get 2:20...
the game i really want more people to run is Chirpy Reverie - https://speedrun.com/chirpy_reverie
it's a 2d platformer with an air dash, kinda like Celeste, but with a very different moveset. the platforming is a little wack, but in a fun sm64 kinda way, where you can really master your schmovement as chirpy the penguin.
an any% run is 7 levels, can be done in about 10 minutes - there's also All EX Levels, where you unlock and beat the 6 "expert levels". that's about half an hour. not to mention that the ILs are really fun on their own. easy to get into casually, but everything changes when you learn to diagonal dash jump...
so uh, go check it out, and remember to turn "up is jump" off! https://turbowarp.org/434825906
i've just noticed something. the input display doesn't show your inputs when you ddj. is this in all your runs?
why doesn't your input display work when you ddj
https://slashinfty.github.io/yt-frame-timer/ if the run is on YouTube you can retime it to the frame with this. it's really easy to use
appel 1.4 is back on griffpatch's page, maybe the mods could put a link to it in the game rules - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/60917032
dillen just got a time of 0 seconds on the Speedrun Timer. he played the full game in order to set it up, but it doesn't matter how quickly you do the setup. it's not even a speedrun
bit definitely goes too far
I've created a new category called "Any% with Back in Time" to test the new glitch's usage in full game runs. the question is, which category is "Any%"? is the glitch broken enough that without bit is "Any%" and with it is "Any% Glitched"? (yes) or is with bit "Any%", and without it "Any% Glitchless", or "All Main Levels"?
i don't care RIGHT now, but if the any%/BiT run gets TOO crazy, or the setup becomes most of the run, i won't change either category's name.
good luck, gamers
i'm (still for some reason) in the reverie discord (a link to which is on the main game board), and in the Chirpy Reverie Minus thread mr whatever his name is is posting about an update to minus that looks like it'll mostly be changes to movement options. things like DDJing into orbs and hitting them will definitely affect the run.
IF it happens, will we need to split the leaderboard into pre-update (the keirontravis reupload) and post-update (the opendoors21 official release)? and also how do i even do that? i'll probably ask content staff how that works
and just like that, the community was in remiss. there was no better speedrun than this. there was no way you could optimise the speedrunning tactics for Car% any further! this was it.
