My main inquiry was for CE anyway. Main game doesn’t matter a lot to me but if it’s stable it’s just another way to play I guess.
I'm looking at the possibility of allowing PS2 runs with a hard drive installed allowed on the boards. Currently those such runs are marked as emulator and hidden by default (for CEs we do allow emulator). In an era where it's getting harder and harder just to find PS2's, having to rely on a disc reader working can be a burden for some.
PS2 with HDD does give very fast loads and doesn't rely on the disc drive. It does require a fat model PS2. While BC PS3 already being miles faster than the fastest PS2 on disc, it has stability issues. Though I have not tested a lot on a PS2 HDD, I would assume the stability would be better since it's not emulating PS2 on a PS3 nor reading a disc.
I say we allow this, but I wanted to get other's thoughts on the matter before we would allow this. We would allow this on here, Substance, VR and any CEs if there are no real objections or issues.
I've seen you around in the Discord and you seem to know your stuff. I'll add you on as a moderator and you can take the lead on emulator stuff. Who knows when I'll get to this game.
Ever since taking over the GT boards, I do have a vision of completely revamping all the boards with new and realistic categories, including emulator. But with moderating all GT games and a lot of other games, I only have so much time to dedicate to every game. Plus I'd like to run such game to be able to create and manage categories properly.
That being said, emulator has a place for every PS1/PS2 GT game. So EMU should be a thing on this board at some point. But I do not have the time right now to make that happen. I'd like to make all the GT games makes sense like I've done with GT4 Prologue, GT PSP, GT Sport and GT 7. All in due time.
EMU option is there now. Platforms weren't selected.
Runs will be looked into at some point. I personally don't have time since I'm managing other boards at the moment, but maybe one of the other two mods can look into necessary changes.
I have plans to overhaul the board at some point to make stuff clear, easy to understand, etc. But that's the case with many of the GT games. One at a time.
Yeah when you submit a run there is an option to mark as emulator. Plus most of the time we can tell.
I agree with this move. As a moderator of all GT games I haven’t had a chance to give attention to a lot of them yet. A lot of changes are needed and this is a welcome one that makes sense.
No since Console runs go to the score screen all you need to do is show your score screen at the end. That'll have your final IGT.
That would not be allowed, correct.
An update:
We are testing a load remover for PC. We will likely make a determination on the fate of it sometime next week. We would be leaning towards separating PC and Console for this. A new post will be created once we have decided how we are handling PC runs. All runs currently in the queue for PC will continue to stay for now.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to a moderator.
Added and submitted the run for you.
This thread is now locked, as the board is live now and discussions can be continued here: https://www.speedrun.com/mgs2vrce/forums/0cnuq
Alright, so from what I've read and how I understand all of this, plus taking into account all votes, it sounds like the best decision is a partial ban for Glitchless.
The rules now read as follows:
Ninja Fight: Skipping the start of Phase 2 monologue ("Hand to hand") is BANNED, but throwing Ninja during the fight to extend a phase is ALLOWED
If anybody has any questions, feel free to message a moderator. This topic is now closed and will be locked.
Any ideas for tweaking current levels or adding new levels, categories, etc. post in this thread for discussion.
Not a glitch. Trom's post is dead on.
