No the add on trophies are not required. Only the trophies needed to get the platinum are necessary.

Sounds interesting. I'll probably pass on running it but I'm sure there's enough people who would enjoy a different perspective of Speedrunning the game other than the normal categories.

It's not easy if you don't have the speed glitch. You need to ride out your first hover for as long as possible do a spin, and then start your second hover. It takes a bit of practice doing it that way, but I take the 5 second loss to make sure I get the speed glitch to skip a section later in the stage.
