The controller version was split because the Nintendo switch can not revert to specific versions of the game, while mobile devices and PC can. You can also find tutorials for downgrading in the guides tab as well.

A lot of open world games allow a similar concept, where you make saves, quit to menu, and load back in to skip dialogue and cutscenes. I would look at any open world game, perhaps dark souls, for rules.
