I knew I probably didn’t understand what you were trying to turn into an “IL”. Now that you mentioned that each world has multiple levels I see where you’re coming from and how it wouldn’t fit in as a traditional IL.

In that case, one potential solution with the website in its current form would to still use the IL boards, but create subcategories. In other words, create ILs for the worlds/acts and then create subcategories for each level within the world, including 1 additional subcategory for all the levels.

The upside is that this will work fine, but the downside is that it can get cluttered very quickly when you have say 10 levels like you mentioned.
However, I don't think the leaderboards accommodate Segments (i.e. 'individual worlds' or 'stages' or 'acts') very cleanly as they either have to be put as a full game category (which technically they aren't), or as an IL (which technically they aren't)
An Individual World is the exact definition of an IL, not sure how you can say it technically isn’t. There really isn’t such a thing as an IW because IL doesn’t explicitly mean it has to be for a Level (like Level 1, 2, etc). This statement confuses me because maybe I’m not sure what you’re trying to consider an IL, but based on your use of “Individual World”, that should definitely be set up as an IL.

In Ocarina of Time, the ILs are the individual temples/dungeons. They aren’t ITs or IDs because that would be silly, they are exactly what an IL is for. If your game can be divided up into worlds or acts or something like that, the you already have the basis for ILs.

Segmented runs are based around save points and optimizing each section of the run before looking at a final, IGT of some kind. Segmented runs don’t really need their own LB setup since a segmented run is indeed a full game run, just with different rules. A category for this like FF9 did is the best way to go (even SDA used “categories” to split Segmented and RTA runs).

If you’re talking about an LB where people can post segment times, that’s kind of weird since segments are arbitrary and this would only work if you standardized segments of the game and people had to follow that explicitly. If that’s your goal, then I can kind of see how it would work as an LB, but it also seems like it would work in something like a Google Doc where people can share the best segments from their splits since that’s basically what you’re after.

I see you already asked this in the MM forums too, so it looks like you found the better place to ask (series forums for large series like this aren’t that great of resources, the game specific LBs/discords are much better).

The only way to get a timer on a video that is streamed/recorded from a PS4 directly is to play the video back and edit the timer in (usually using OBS or some other broadcasting software where you can set up a layout).

That, unfortunately, requires a computer. So, it looks like you’re out of luck ):

This is why requiring timers on screen for anything is so bad. Not sure what game(s) you’re talking about, but it’s unfortunate they have that rule in place because requiring a timer is just lame.

You didn’t even link the run.

I’m assuming that you’re talking about Ama’s 41 Magic Beans since you’ve been poking around with it based on your other threads. You’re better off watching it and learning it and if you have questions, ask in the discord. iirc the run isn’t that complex, just some BA/RBA magic.

Something tells me they aren’t going to see your question on a 3 year old thread that you necro’d for absolutely no reason.

Splits arent going to help you figure out if you forgot something, it’s not like every item, chest, character link etc is it’s own split. All the splits will give you is a general outline of the route, but none of the specifics will be shown through splits.

If you want to learn 100%, you’ll have to watch Biz’s run and take notes. Once you have your notes you can do a test run through of them to make sure you got everything. If you missed something, go back to the video, find where you missed it and add it into your notes so you don’t forget it again.

I mean you can upload it to any steaming site, but YouTube is by far you best option. Not sure why you’d want to not use it.

You could technically upload it to something like Dropbox, but that’s considered not good because nobody wants to download a run to verify it like that because who knows what could be hidden in the file. YT is massively preferred.

HDK covered it but I feel the need to emphasize that auto playing anything with audio (music or a video) is Horrible Website Design 101 - nothing will drive away users faster. Nobody wants to be startled by the sudden playing of your favorite song when they visit your profile (I’m having MySpace flashbacks)

You revived multiple 2 year old threads to add nothing of value to them.

Don’t do that, it’s bad forum etiquette.

It doesn’t matter if you add a penalty to yourself, you just can’t do that. Timing starts from selecting “Yes” on a fresh file, no cutscene watched or anything else.

The original setup for ACE in Zelda 1 was believed to be impossible on console (specifically WiiVC); it was thought to be Emu only.

After experimenting with it, I discovered a very precise way to get it on console involving getting hit and activiating the ACE a certain number of frames after. I was the first to figure this out.

In the end, it was obsoleted by a significantly faster method that worked on console in a simpler way, but it was still really exciting for me when I found that original way to do what everyone thought wasn’t possible.

This is going to be blunt because now I’m annoyed at your attitude in this thread.

People have given you plenty of opinions - opinions that all of your ideas aren’t that good because they are rude and will stifle any attraction to your personal discord because new people won’t feel welcomed. Not sure how you can say nobody is giving you opinions when that’s pretty much all you’ve gotten so far. People have even gone as far as to suggest different methods of encouraging people to talk that doesn’t involve a threat of a kick.

The problem is that you apparently have already made up your mind and instead of taking anything anyone has said here into consideration (seriously, how hard would it be to nicely DM a lurker and ask them their opinion on your discord instead of just kicking them?) you’re just rambling with the arrogant idea that your discord needs to be an exclusive place. To say none of our opinions “hit the mark” implies that you were/are just looking for people to agree with your ideas.

If you’re not going to listen to anyone’s opinions then why did you start this thread in the first place or why are you even still here talking about it? If you want to treat your discord as an exclusive club that only includes people who talk, then go get affiliate/partner on twitch and only invite your subs. That should solve all your problems because subs should be interested, right?

No discord is more special than another, thinking yours would be is just arrogant, if there are special/exclusive discords then they are probably nothing more than a circle jerk that ostracizes anyone else for being different or not sharing the same views as them.

Again, if you already had all these grand plans for the greatest most exclusive discord, why even create this thread and ask anyone what they think? All while taking issue with everyone who has criticized your idea with their own opinions on the matter.

That’s all I have to say on this because clearly your mind won’t be changed by anyone’s opinions, personal anecdotes or ideas that aren’t your own on this matter.

Option 3 or option 1 seem like the best options to me. Obviously getting highscore.com would be ideal because “speedrun” doesn’t imply high scores, but if option 1 does happen, it could be mitigated by creating another route under this one that is explicitly for high scores (speedrun.com/high_scores or something) so that was its kinda under the umbrella of the site while still remaining separated. Then it can kinda exist as it’s own entity. But at least that way it could match a lot of the format of this site in terms of game by game verification.

Automatically kicking someone and that “Lurker” role you created are just horrible ideas. Let people be quiet without removing them or putting a big sign on them that lets everyone know they’re quiet. Imagine if Twitch had a function that the streamer could enable where if you don’t chat after so many minutes, you lose the ability to chat for the rest of the stream. How is that beneficial for anyone?

I’m in many personal discord servers that I barely talk in. Why? Because I work full time and miss a lot of the discussions that happen, but moreover I’m close friends with all these people and I love to know what’s going on on their day to day lives. Even if I don’t post, I still read every message.

To put a “read only” role on someone who doesn’t talk and then have some kind of test they must pass to prove they are still a lurker is just so damn rude to them. If they are shy, let them stay shy. Don’t point them out with a role for everyone to see or test them like it’s academia or something.

If you really want to improve how active your discord server is, maybe find a few users who have been in the server for a while but don’t talk and message them. DM them and say that you noticed they’d joined a while ago but never talked. Ask them if there’s something you can do to make the server more inviting or if there’s something you can do to encourage chatter. Get their feedback and opinions, maybe they’ll have something or maybe they’ll just say they like to lurk.

Work with those people nicely or let them be. Don’t ostracize them or treat them differently, like being in your server is some reward for them if they pass their “lurker test”.

Splits aren’t better than nothing, splits are the same as nothing. Splits don’t add any proof to you doing a run, all they show is that you left a timer running for x amount of time and hit a key to split every now and then while you did who knows what.

Just click on the Resources here, I think it’s up to date.

Or, alternatively, I believe there’s a link in the OOT discord.
