if you are playing on emulator you can just make practice save states? or you can play on a completed file in some games

ive only heard bad things about elgato, a friend of mine had one and it barely worked he now uses it as a component to hdmi converter for his avermedia LGX2 which i recommend getting. i personally have the original avermedia LGX but its not manufactored anymore.

gv-usb2 is a popular choice, its like 40€. but if even thats too much you could get an easy cap for like 10€ but the drivers are ass to install but if you manage to get it working its fine.
