Listen, man didn't want to make it public but I will. Nani has been engaging in scummy fucking mod practices. Every time I have submitted a run, he seemingly refuses to verify it until he gets a run that beats it. I have proof lying in my notification box (https://prnt.sc/tDWVF3G6LhkW). Mere seconds after he verified my run, a new record seemingly appears from the heavens above. I don't think this kind of behavior is honest. Not only has he used his moderator privileges to prevent any other runner from taking the top spot for even a few minutes, but has used unconventional tactics that are not in the heart of speedrunning. Consider the world record for Collectibles%, he collects four of them on night one, alt+f4's into a new instance of the game already on the night two screen, and collects the last two collectibles. Even making an appeal to how "the runs don't violate the category rules" is inherently dishonest, as NaniNinja066 makes the rules. These are even subject to change! Consider a prior run I had submitted that paused the timer, instead of alt+f4ing, to get into a new instance of the game. This run was retimed to prevent the first place from being achieved! Nani, I request you to do these things: put the speedrun rules to a vote for the community to decide, quit verifying your own runs, and remove the collectibles% world record.
This one is relatively tame compared to stuff like 120 star blindfolded, but it's still impressive imo. In Grey-Box Testing, there is a category where you have to beat the game without picking up a box. In order to beat the game this way, you have to do a trick in the beginning of the run that is so precise it is essentially luck based, despite everything in the game being deterministic. The first person to complete the challenge spent 6 hours straight trying to get the trick successfully a single time. Currently, only two people have ever finished a run, and the world record holder managed to get the trick first try.
There are leaderboards for multi-games, such as multiple classic mario games
However, "my 10 favorite NES games" probably wouldn't get added to the site
Set smaller, incremental goals for yourself. Getting a WR, or even getting close to WR level can be very daunting as a new runner. Focus on improving your time and you'll naturally get better at the games you play.
You could ask the MTPO community how they made it. I know that the sonic community and the karlson 3D community use a similar timing method for their runs as well
Ask here: https://speedrun.com/mtpo/forum
Edit: also check the "resources" tab. That's where you can get the splits you were looking for
It depends what you mean by "dead." If you mean that a run is dead because you literally can't PB anymore, I don't see any reason why you would want to continue the run, unless you need to practice the end of the speedrun. If the run is "dead" because you made a mistake that lost a lot of time, you might want to continue in case you can play well in the rest of the run and get a small PB.
Several of my favorite speedgames are dead. Unfortunately people lose interest over time and there isn't all that much you can do about it. You can try posting in the advertisement thread, or you can read this thread for some tips on how to grow a speedgame.
edit: @M_CBL_ Just because a game is online doesn't make it dead. The game is "dead" because it only receives a a new run every couple of days. Moto X3M got a huge boost in active players because EazySpeezy, a popular speedrunning youtuber, made a video about it. Moto x3m was one of the most active webgames on speedrun.com at it's peak, but it now gets barely any runners.
@jackzfiml they do do that, but for some reason some URLs still work. @YUMmy_Bacon5 how did you get it back? I can't get my game back, even if I go to https://speedrun.com/auth/editgame @Bob-chicken I was just checking to see if the glitch was patched, I didn't actually expect it to work
There's a new login page: https://speedrun.com/auth/login
I changed the game URL to "auth" and now I can't do anything
I thought that you had done it again when I saw that you had made another comment on this thread
Well...
There was a new speedrun.com update the other day, and I wanted to test to see if the new pages that were added would have the same glitch, and they did. I really wish speedrun.com would learn from their mistakes. Or maybe I'm the one who should learn from my mistakes. Either way, I need help from staff to set a game's URL back to normal. The way I was fixing it myself before doesn't work anymore.
I can see it just fine. It's either been fixed or it's a problem on your end.
Advertising the game is one way to get more runners, but another way is to just run the game actively. Your runs will show up on the front page of the site, and people can randomly find the game that way. Running the game also boosts the "active players" count for the game, which causes it to appear higher up in the "games" page.
I don't know what happened here. I just phased right through the enemy. I didn't hit it with my whip or take damage. When I analyze the footage frame by frame it appears that I teleported forwards to the other side of the enemy.
This is a speedrun, so it doesn't even showcase all of the weird things you can do with this glitch. You can clip inside of walls, go out of bounds, and so much more. Also, let me know if you want to include this glitch in the video and I can provide high quality footage of it.
60 Seconds Burger Run has a rule against resizing the game window when playing on flash version, because doing so causes the walls in the game to behave in very strange ways. By running into literally any wall in the game while the game is resized, you can get pushed and teleported all over the level. I can't find any videos on the internet of it, so I'll upload a video of the glitch soon so you can see what I mean.
The Red Ball Series has a ton of well-documented glitches and skips. I recommend checking out some of the videos on @Maximum 's YouTube channel if you want to learn more about those.
Did you at least curate a list of games that are being run or is it anything goes? If its the latter this is so unproductive
This time around only full-game runs count towards the event, so at least that means that less runs overall will be submitted but it's still probably going to be a lot.
I sent a message to @Phineapoo asking him to reply to this thread and also to tell @Zynth and @Dragon_Qwertik about the thread so they can tell their side of the story. Hopefully they respond soon.
