This one I agree with, the FF7 src has a reputation for being extremely slow with verification and none of th3 mods seems to think its an issue. Sure, its done in their own free time, but with 4 mods waiting 3 weeks+ is a bit of a joke really. New, active mods have been needed for a long time.
Hey all! We are proposing some changes to the ruleset for submissions to src as below. This is to make things clearer and easier to both time yourself as well as verify. Note that existing runs will still be valid (but will be retimed accordingly).
Proposed Ruleset:
Game must be played from a fresh, initial save file. This will show the opening cutscene which must be included in your submission. Don't forget to back up your data via USB/Cloud storage!
Timing starts upon selecting "Series Quests" from the main menu. You can change settings beforehand (timing, stream overlay etc.). Timing ends when seeing the "Clear" text at the end of "Special Battle Arrangement" in the "Theatrhythm Series".
After your run, please show all stages cleared in Music Stages with Clear or Perfect Chain status.
You must use standard mode and stick to your chosen difficulty for the whole run, except for Supreme (where if Supreme difficulty is not available, use Ultimate difficulty).
I'll be running this Thursday next week, so I was wondering if we can add a leaderboard for it?
-turbo -boosters allowed -English for 7 and 9, Japanese for 8 (as per free language choice for FF8 HDC leaderboards) -timing: FF7 new game to final hit on Necron
This may have taken off with LoD... but I'm telling you now, it is falling on deaf ears here. The ff7 community just isn't going to make this into a new category when there are already many categories and many skips/glitches we exploit from the game engine without using external factors (whether it be chest codes or memory card corruption/ghost saves).
Also, if you want to actually get a discussion about this more than my opinion, post to the discord as linked here (but forewarning, its not likely going to get anywhere there either).
"If you want to try something a bit harder try speedrunning ff7" - I suggest you follow your own advice and learn to speedrun the existing categories (I see you do have a time in HD Any%, happy to help you improve that). The community in discord will be more than inviting to help you learn, just don't expect your ghost save idea to catch on.
Although I find it interesting what you're doing, you're using cheat codes to do this, which invalidates almost any credibility of these "speedruns".
Can I ask, what are you aiming to achieve with these? There are many "official" categories of speedrun here and I can't help but feel you would be better learning to do actual runs of the game and learning the glitches/skips that are by manipulating the existing game code, not by adding in an external cheat source.
Like I said, what you're doing is interesting for sure, but theres a reason no one is commenting or expressing their interest.
Welcome!

Generally you make your own splits; most use a program called LiveSplit for this which is fairly simple to use. Not sure about running against other people's times!

Can't help with that as I run HD consoles, sorry! Someone will chime in and help for sure, the ff7 community is really helpful.
Good luck!
Awesome! That gives me some hope, at least for the early runs where the total time is still a time regardless! Gotta keep learning for now, I'm as far as killing off MK but still sketchy... probably a couple of months off giving it a proper attempt :D Thanks for the reply!
Hey everyone!
So I'm finally getting into speedrunning this properly (I did segmented runs some time ago, meh). Will be running both PS4 and PSX any% no slots. Working on learning the run at the moment, slowly but surely but got a few things I want to make sure about when I do get round to attempting full runs.

Saving in case of dying. Mainly before those oh-so-lovely run killers (Bottomswell, MK, Jenova Life, Demons Gate, Schizo, CA... you know the ones). Is this allowed, as long as the timer keeps ticking over? At least for my first few runs, could be the difference between making a full run or not.
-
Saving and resetting with regard to things I'm good at messing up at the moment - Junon marching, Zolom (although this would be point 1 after 3/4 failed attempts), CC skip (getting better at that but hard on PS4) and probably more. Does this need to be hard reset, or is "Quit" and reloading a save allowed? I see stuff about formations and soft-resetting, does this mess it up? (I won't be running it with steproute, not to start with anyway, but don't wanna be getting runs invalidated).

Can capture card quality affect run eligibility? Mainly because in my early attempts of running, I can't really get anything above about $40, which sure will let me stream (and avoid PS4 broadcast blocked screens of course), but might be poor quality - are there other implications?
-
Can I take a break without it being a cutscene? Again, timer still ticking and stream/video still running, just no movement on screen for a few mins?
I'm a way off even trying a full run yet (just practicing and chatting to people on my lonely Twitch channel) but I'm excited for when I can finally start giving it a solid go and join this epic community - if I can ever pull it off lol!
