Hey all,

If you haven't seen our #server-events post in the official HOURS Discord, we have acted to extend the contest from ending in half an hour to ending in, well, an hour and 7 days.

That's right, the contest will be finishing at 4AM GMT on August the 16th. Get your runs in, people! You haven't any time to waste!

Hey all,

I've recently clarified our pause rule policies (that being, that any unjustified pausing/micro-pausing is grounds for disqualification) in our Game Rules, and specified the exact allotted time values for valid screenshots in each subcategory type. They will likely be updated after or during the event in the more well-explored categories.

Thanks,

Lumpian

Hey all. Just trying to keep moving to save borderline rule-breaking runs without sacrificing the standard of proof we have for our Submission Rules.

The first Submission Rule now reads as follows:

  • Video proof is required, starting at least from the first upgrade menu and ending at the game menu. The game must be paused at least once after defeating Resident Mind and before reaching the Credits screen.
    • Your video may end at the Credits screen if it began at the menu.

This means that as long as you have the menu open at the beginning or the end of your recording, your run is valid. You may now also record from the first upgrade screen, as long as it leads into one of the first areas (Peacock Peaks, Heron Heights, Starling Stacks.)

Thanks,

Lumpian

Hey all,

Just clarified in the examples for game-breaking exploits under Game Rules that you're allowed to switch hosts mid-round if it's with OC Page.

(If you try to fine-print me by using OC Page and then switching anything else mid-round with exploits, I will place you upon a cross.)

Thanks,

Hey all,

Recently changed the recording requirements to allow for beginning recordings from Sinking Sands instead of the game menu. You MUST still end your recordings at the game menu, though. This is on behalf of a recent run, which I did a little thinking over.

Thanks,

If you're seeing this roughly three or four weeks after the HOURS update, then guess what: there's a damn HOURS speedrunning contest, sucker!

All of the information pertaining to this contest will be continually maintained on the Google Doc link hyperlinked into this block of text.

Well? What are you waiting for? Get in there and read about it! We've got sick prizes and official Discord trophy roles to give out! You don't have a moment to waste, sucker!

Oh and uh, noting some changes that have been added and that will be in-effect for the duration of the contest:

>> New valid difficulty: Hours
>> Any% defaults set to Seconds - White Timer - No OC+/TC
>> All of the new confirmed hosts have been added
>> All new tempos added

Further, from a recent post:

>> Swarm and Scramblefoe variables, new categories added for them

That's about all. Seriously though, go participate in the contest!

Hey all,

Just noting some changes here. I've added a few new fields for the upcoming variable Swarm that will allow for much more enemy density during runs of HOURS after the upcoming update.

In that spirit, I've also added a category for Scramblefoe. Not that it needs to be particularly noted; in fact, for the reason of cleanliness, both Swarm and Scramblefoe will now have their own categories, but they will be designated as 'Miscellaneous' until further notice.

That's all for now. Keep your eye out for something big coming imminently, though!

Hey all,

Just notating a minor Game Rules change, that being that client-related exploits (notably including holding X), or whatever other unholy things that can be achieved at a user-level against the Roblox client are now prohibited.

Should a dynamic bug scene be cultivated, either after SentientSupper allowing these bugs to exist or his life signs cessating, then a category permitting these zany Pannenkoekian glitches/exploits will likely be created.

That's all, take care everyone.

Just following up,

Another Game Rules change has occurred, that being that you may opt to only run one run modifier out of Overcharge and Turbocharge for the OC+TC category. This will of course put you at a disadvantage typically, but if one wishes to disadvantage themselves in this way, you are open to.

Rules should update soon.

Hey all,

Just wanted to clarify an unclear part of the no-pausing part of our Timing Rules that I technically have broken by verifying a recent tempoless Weeks run.

That being that any and all pauses made while projectiles/enemies are active within a stage are cause for the disqualification of a run. This is for the purpose of upholding the nature of speed-running as a test of one's will, knowledge, and most of all, consistency.

I have only made this exception for the run formerly mentioned due to the fact that I wholly believe that its time can be improved upon, and that the pause period in question was initiated when no enemies were alive.

Thanks all.

Hey all,

After some feedback from the existing HOURS speed-running circle, I've gone ahead and removed the currently unfilled Weeklings category and instead made Weeks a subcategorized difficulty alongside Seconds. Rules will have also changed to reflect this.

Thanks!

Hey again all!

I would like to take this time to inform everyone of future plans for category extensions.

As you all know, HOURS is a highly customizable experience; you get to pick one of 11 Hosts to take on the game in one of 4 difficulties, with 3 on/off run modifiers (those being, Overclock, Turbocharge, and Scramblefoe), with 2 types of timers (White and Teal), with any one of the current 22 tempos.

This roughly comes out to a possible 15,488 individual times that you could possibly achieve in HOURS, and with that, a need for a certain level of care for what we choose to let be its own place-based category.

On the other hand though, there are fair arguments to be held that some of those toggleable options should absolutely hold as their own categories. I've already taken the initiative to set some of these up by making the game's different timers and difficulties into individual binary sub-categories, meaning that for every major category, there are 4 different set-ups you can go for:

  • OC/TC + White Timer
  • OC/TC + Teal Timer
  • No OC/TC + White Timer
  • No OC/TC + Teal Timer

However, I recognize that these categories will eventually not be enough to capture the full intricacies and different challenges in running HOURS with other modifiers. For this reason, I have laid out a few trigger events that will result in future category extensions:

  • Host Subcategories: When the top 20 leaderboard spots on the Any% White/Teal timer board are filled with the same combination of Host and Tempo.
  • Difficulty Subcategories: When we reach ~40 active runners (viewable in Statistics.)
  • Host/Secret-Grouped Tempo Subcategories: When we reach ~150 active runners (maybe after the Steam release...)

Aside from these future sub-categorizations, I do not think we'll be being any more specific than that. It's also probable that these aren't the exact numbers, nor how we'll specifically approach the problem of having so many configurations to speedrun in HOURS.

That's all for now. Submit some runs, folks! And if you do, make sure you read the darn rules first!

Greetings all!

Whether you're a veteran or new arrival in the HOURS speedrunning community, I hope to give a warm introduction as the category's super-mod, introduce the game, and go over my hopes for the future of this community.

As for yours truly, I'm just a regular 18-something yr. old who has had the pleasure of being part of the Roblox community for a good portion of my life. I've seen the heyday of really good Roblox games come and go, and have had words of respect and admiration for many.

However, it was only over the past 6 months during which I discovered HOURS that I feel that I've truly found a game that exemplifies what the platform is capable of: HOURS.

This game, built by none other than the super-skilled SentientSupper (aka superrun100), is an absolute exercise in tying together all the things that makes a truly transcendent experience in replayable hack-and-slash, not to mention being an homage to the history of Roblox in general.

For all of this, I'm really into the idea of having HOURS recognized for what it is: a masterpiece in aesthetic, mechanical, and general game design in the Roblox single-player genre.

To me, there's no better way to do this than to foster a community around pushing this game to its limits. I'll be doing this through three primary ways:

  1. Maintaining a robust and accountable standard-of-proof for all runs submitted to the HOURS Roblox category.

  2. Set up a nifty Discord server for people to gather and discuss strategies/have a platform for their streams.

  3. And finally, add a host of ethical and experienced moderators on both our Speedrun.com category and our future Discord so that we can manage increasing numbers of speedrunners and community members.

All of these things I hope to have accomplished by year's end, which I feel is more than enough time considering my currently open-ended yet demanding IRL schedule.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, please feel free to share them here, or direct them to me at Lumpian#7779. I'll be happy to help.
