Welcome! Many people - including myself - advise running games you enjoy casually. If you want to speedrun a game, you will spend a lot of time with it and if it's a game you don't really like it will most likely not be fun. Whatever game(s) you chose: good luck on your runs!

Hi there and welcome! You don't need to be "good" to be a speedrunner. All you need is to run games. It doesn't matter how well you do compared to others. Many people love the friendly competition and try their best to get better but that's not a requirement to call yourself a speedrunner. It really doesn't matter how long it takes you to beat Super Mario Bros., running games is the only thing that matters. I guess that's up to you? If you haven't played a game in forever it can surely help to play it again casually. Although a speedrun might have a different route than a casual playthrough.
