Hey, there's recently come up a need for a new rule to be added regarding starting runs. This post is for transparency's sake so that nobody is surprised when they're added to the rules properly.

The runs in question seem completely legit, but they use a pre-existing save to start runs. The concerns that this brings is that you could use this save to do something in order to prepare for a run. (ie. activate Reino for No Diploma) This is why we've decided with O_Circles (the only other mod) to add the requirement to start a fresh save into the rules. I don't want to imply any kind of bad motivation on the runner's part, but this is just a precaution to prevent some obvious advantage gains for categories which should be New Game only.

This rule really should've been implemented in the first place and all runs that are currently on the leaderboard already adhere to this by either creating a save with a new name, by dragging an existing name into the toilet and then using the same name, or using a macro to perform the latter. The exception for this mrbrax's run for No Diploma, which wasn't submitted by him, has a very uncompetitive time and appears to have been added mainly for legacy's sake, AFAIK being the first "No Diploma"-run before the SRcom page existed. (as a matter of fact the video is missing the first ~1:40 minutes of footage so it probably shouldn't be on the leaderboard if we're being really anal)

One question I do have is that do we consider the small oob that is doable in Dug Derby a skip? it doesn't save that much and would only be relevent in the "new game+ free play" category that andy brought up on Discord. It is seen here: I think it would a cool thing to do in no skips. Should we just consider all out of bounds skips/shortcuts as skips, regardless of how much time they save?

Hi, I live in Finland so I have a PAL PS2. I have the NTSC-version of the game and Swap Magic to play it. My question is that is using said method to bypass the region lock allowed? I love the game and think the speedrun is cool, but I don't much like the idea of having to buy an NTSC PS2 to run it. Thanks!

Briefly mentioned it, but I am fine how the skips are. I don't think Sebulba's "skip" is as serious of a skip as the others since it involves no out of bounds and it does still seem something that might've been intended, while the others don't. I would compare it to something like boosting over some hills in Gauntlets "moon surface area" (can't think of a proper term), it's not going by the intended path but is very easy and out in the open.

About your FMR trick, while I haven't been able to reproduce it myself, it does sound like something that might be considered a skip. But since there is no video of it yet, it's only on the 1st lap and it sounds mega risky, I wouldn't really mind it even it didn't count as a skip.

The only thing you need is to have a verified e-mail address for your Discord account. The server is currently in Amsterdam, but can be changed to something else if needed.

I'd prefer every run to have some sort of proof, even if video is not possible, something like splits being included would be nice. Even though something like pointing a webcam towards your tv is pretty easy, so having video requirement wouldn't be too bad either.

In regards to splitting categories, I think should we just brutally cut all main categories into N64 and PC, and if such a run is submitted, N64, PC and Dreamcast. It might not look too good on the page, but at least all runs wouldn't be clumped up together. Thoughts?

Late response, but I'd think there are no major differences, considering all other versions (not counting GBC for obvious reasons) are pretty much the same. Can't say for certain since I don't own the console, but from the gameplay I've seen from videos like this: I'd say it's fairly reasonable to assume that it's the same thing.
