Hi rattys! I am the creator of the game Rat Climber and I am very happy it finally has its own speedrun page now (shoutout to admins who approved it so quickly)

I built Rat Climber with speedrunners in mind and have tried to make it very smooth and polish out the rough spots with every patch I make. All of the zones are now more or less set in stone, there will no longer be any major path updates outside of bugfixes and the occasional softlock spot, so the zone geometry should all be similar from this point on and into the future.

I really hope people discover this game and find new skips and optimization strats, that kind of thing is so fun for me to witness as the dev. I have went through and found a ton of them myself and put about 70% of the skips into my own speedrun submission to kickstart the knowledgebase for the community, although there's a few skips I did not include due to their difficulty.

I'm not the best runner in the world so I will leave it to professionals! But I will definitely be sharing the spots in their own unique video soon

I really hope people have fun with my game and if you encounter any bugs or pain spots that are overly irritating or feel unfair, please let me know and I can work out a patch for them.

If you want to follow my 1-man studio for game updates (including my upcoming game project), you can find glimmerware on steam/youtube/x/itchio

Thanks!

Hello all, I am a longtime speedrunner content-enjoyer through out my life and I greatly respect what you all do!

I am an indie game developer and I have just released my game Rat Climber on steam and I really wanted to get it into the hands of speedrunners because I know this type of game will scratch that itch on many things you like about speedrunning.

The TLDR of Rat Climber is that you're a rat who must traverse up seven distinct labyrinthian zones (for example: seaside village, crystal caverns, swamp, ancient egypt) to reach the very top of the world and find cheese heaven.

There's no collectibles aside from a single secret cheese chunk in each zone (optional; getting all unlocks something extra)

There's no skills or powers either, just running, dashing (uses stamina and can jump slightly further/higher), and safety walking (prevents going off of ledges)

There's exact 1-to-1 collision on every object. No invisible walls. In many places you need to think like a rat to progress and go in a very tiny hole or on a ledge a few inches wide on random side of a building.

The whole game takes place in one level, all the biome zones are stacked vertically on each other. If you miss a jump and fall, there's a chance you can recover progress, you have decent airborne/falling control

Me, being the dev who made everything, I can beat the game casually in about 1h 20min. I'm sure speedrunners could go wayyy faster. I'd like to say there's no glitches or physics that will let you skip major chunks, but I know what you guys are capable of haha

If this sounds fun, I recommend you guys try it out, there's a free demo on steam and itchio of the first zone, and any content creators who would want to feature it on their platform, I'd be able to give them a free steam key copy if they wanted.

I'm really sorry if this post breaks the rules! (in which case it can be taken down) I'm not here with malicious intent, I am just trying to figure out how to get this game discovered by people who will appreciate it and have fun with it! If this topic is not allowed then I still hope this awesome community will discover the game organically on their own at some point.

Thank you all!
