Thanks! I agree with you on consolidating the manual and automatic/saturn mode and arcade mode categories together, but I feel that the time lap and mirror modes are completely different from Saturn/arcade mode and should warrant their own categories.

Just to clarify, my full game Saturn run is played in a single segment. After finishing the first two races, I pushed A B C Start to go back to the main menu, skipping the cutscenes that arent part of the in game timing.

Also, without being able to soft reset, the game punishes you for doing well by making you go through an extra menu if you get a top 5 time.

Hey there, I was wondering; why is resetting not allowed for the All Standard Courses category? for other Saturn games, soft resetting (A B C Start) is an integral part of the speedrun. It would be nice to be able to reset back to the main menu instead of rolling the dice on having to go up or down after finishing a course, depending on whether you got a top 5 time or not.

Hey there, I've been speedrunning a lot of Daytona USA for the Sega Saturn. I prefer the movement and feel of this game, but I'm not sure if I'm stunting myself by only playing with the 2D pad. I would play with the 3D pad, but you can't set any controls to L and R, so you would have to accelerate, brake, and switch gears with only one thumb. Is it worth the analog control to buy the Saturn wheel?

I know this was four years ago, but I just noticed this so I'll answer your question now lol HD is a remake and a completely separate game from the original. Basically every aspect and mechanic of the game is different in both versions. Here are a few differences: In the original, movement is analog, so any direction you tilt the stick, NiGHTS will go in that direction. In the remake, movement is digital, so if you tilt the stick anywhere near one of the four cardinal directions, it'll force NiGHTS to go straight up, down, left, or right. In the original, the kids incrementally speed up every time you jump in succession. (this has no speed cap.) You travel the same exact speed whether you jump or walk in the remake (unless you're walking up or down a slope.) There is a gravity mechanic in the original. While traveling downward, you gain speed (with no speed cap.) This does not exist in the remake. NiGHTS' movement speed is faster in the remake, and you spin around enemies that you've latched onto WAY faster. There are tons more differences but I'm not going to write a whole book in this forum lmao. I'm thinking of making youtube videos about all the mechanics and speedrun strats in the original game at some point in the future.
