I am open to the prospect of a merger into Salamander/Gradius, but I am pretty sure a Gradius discord already exists?
In an effort to better increase correspondence and activity, I have created this discord for a more centralized and accessible forum to discuss all things Life Force. This includes scoring, strategies, speedrunning or community discussions. One of the main reasons for this also is that Speedrun.com is plagued by ads now, and I have issues at times even being able to review runs or post in the forums. You can find the link here or next to the game title. Lets come together there and work on making Life Force a more enjoyable experience for everyone!
ManTuoLuo has informed me that they have deleted their speedrun.com account.
I see that we have more posts today than a long time, once again however it is not exactly for the best topic. I have long moderated and administrated many leaderboards and online gaming communities. In that time I have witnessed things like this before, and TBH, there is yet to be an absolute solution. Even if we use all the resources at our disposal, there are still ways that cheating can transpire, and the ability to police it remains limited to the aforementioned resources.
In regards to Xenkaroshi, we have not always been on the best terms, and in the past there have been instances on record of him being impolite, rude, or at times even biased against some speedrunners. Regardless of this, they are still here and speaking up about what they feel is the truth. This conflict was the basis of them being removed as moderator here and the whole Big 20 fiasco that I quickly spoke up about and put an end to.
In regards to ManTuoLuo, they suddenly petitioned to become a moderator here, and after careful review, LynnCarius and I decided to allow it. Now that they have stepped down, for whatever reason, we are going to have to become more critical when it comes to new applicants or reviewing submitted speedruns.
The integrity of the moderators is critical when addressing the aspect of competitive speedrunning. Thus, it is also equally critical that transparency also, be prioritized here. I am always willing to listen to the community and enact changes based upon what they want. That is the foundation of speedrunning, founding new categories, challenges and the spirit of competition. We must also remember to HAVE FUN though. I have experienced first hand what happens when too many rules and regulations harm the fun factor, and it is not good, it leads to division within communities and people becoming deeply offended.
That said, I am open to any suggestions or solutions the community may offer here. I will petition for ManTuoLuo to return but it is ultimately their choice, same with Xenkaroshi. We cannot make everyone happy, but what we can do is make a clear effort that we are trying.
A decision has been made, a new category will be added once I become more familiar with that version of the game and can begin to iron out a clear ruleset. Thank you for the contribution! I am open to any ideas you may have about a ruleset!
Run will be reviewed and a new category can potentially be added, may need to iron out a few rules first though, thank you for the contribution! Updates will be posted in about a week!
After reviewing their application and conferring with LynnCarius, we have decided to promote them to moderator. Welcome to the team!
He is a good dude and veteran speedrunner! Welcome to the crew!
Now that I have finally resolved the matter of correspondence and have become the sole mod, I plan to finally iron out a set of rules for each category that is clear, concise and descriptive. No current runs will be removed however all future runs will be subject to the pending rules. Thank you all for your patience!
At last report I saw the speedrun submitted by Moliman was delegated to you, but it seems that you have since delegated the review to me. I have messaged Moliman with a few questions I have about the speedrun, most notably the lack of a timer and frame counter, which I know you prefer and which is why I delegated review and approval of the run to you in the first place.
Once I have gotten a response from Moliman, I had hoped to correspond with you on where we stand in regards to acceptable speedrun submissions for the leaderboard, but it seems that you have me blocked and I cannot message you. This is not unity that is becoming of speedrun moderators and is causing issues once again, just like it did with the big 20 last year.
In all honesty and integrity, what the hell is your problem dude? I have reported you to the administration here before due to your dissonance with speedrunners here, and in my honest opinion, your lack of being professional and downright rude behavior, which is reflected in our message board here.
The previous discord I created was lost when my phone stopped working and I had to get a new one. Discord screwed me over and I had to start a new account. Your speedruns should be submitted here once you have fully reviewed the rules for each category. I may notion to create a new discord soon if there is enough interest in it.
Welcome to the speedrunning community! Any questions just ask here, or message me directly!
As far as I can tell there are no major time differences on the steam platform, although there has not been any testing done on it as of yet.
Feel free to submit runs using the steam version, they will be reviewed and if anything major is discovered I may add a new sub for steam runs specifically.
Even if you set all the debug cheat options to OFF, if the memory option is not set to "CLR", and the debug cheats have already been enabled on the cart previously, the save battery remembers that and the cheats will still be active. One way to confirm this is if your RCI meters stay at max demand and never change, this affirms that the Valve Max debug cheat option is enabled. The debug code menu will only display the memory option to "SET" when the code has been entered and enabled previously.
600K Population speedrun category does NOT allow for the debug code to be used in any form.
There could be differences in these versions of the game, testing will need to be done at some point in the future.
What version of the game are you playing? You will see once the code is off that your RCI meter will be in flux.
There is no way you can retain maximum demand for all Residential, Commercial and Industrial zones unless the Debug code is on. Your RCI meters never changed at all during this entire run, that confirms to me the debug code was enabled.
