this is a very bad decision. when most runs are separated by milliseconds and the start time is often one pixel wide, those with slower framerates and blurrier resolutions are favored as their timer will start later. also the style of gameplay very heavily favors touchscreen, but on the order of frames and not seconds. IGT exists for a reason
every unnecessary goal costs at least ~3 seconds on timed matches and at least ~5 seconds on untimed matches, you allow 7 in your first match which should be a clue

11 months late but i figured it out: it's refresh rate, doesnt work on 144hz but does work on 60hz. probably the single weirdest thing i've seen refresh rate fuck with

Unfortunately this game has the ability, which I've never seen before, to completely destroy my obs if i try to record it so i probably wont be submitting anything. However, i did find that if you attempt to "grind" into a wall head on such that you get the fast flashing bricks (you'll see what i mean) you can enter a weird state that lasts until the game closes. In this state fps is lowered, in-game time i think is also lowered somewhat, but most importantly if you face a wall and try to jump off it the boosts are significantly increased, and I mean significant. I managed to get a 3.74 run on level 8 just by jumping off the left side of the platform you spawn on, because it instantly warps you the entire length of the level. I would provide a video demonstration but again the program drops my obs to 3 frames per minute for some reason. Cheers!
