I was so excited when i figured out how to grab the bottom of the area but then it didn't work ;( This is where you pop out during the final escape sequence and I was trying to trigger that
down to 3 harpoon and 10 assault, and then you use the base gun for a little over a minute
Hey MetroidMcFly, try damaging the boss while he is off screen but not killing him. Get him low health and then walk into the room. You would still have to go through the initial cut scene but would only have to do the very end of the fight. You would also get the drops from the boss and have ammo for the next section, but that is kinda minor
I mean I'n pretty sure I covered it before so it doesn't matter that much. I just decompiled the source code and found their timer script
I've been thinking about it and since the game is pretty small already I feel that splitting into sub categories would cause more harm than good. It might be worth to let the tiny time saves go so that we can keep IGT
I've been checking the code a bit, and timer doesn't run if:
- Game is paused
- Story dialog is open
- Item popup is open
- Screen transition
- Another window is in focus
I might have missed something but that seems to be most of it
We could discuss using RTA so that everything counts, including how fast you navigate menus and dialog because as is, the dialog skip I found and your incendiary dialog skip are really RTA strats and dont affect IGT.
I really wanna run low% because it would involve some crazy skips and stuff, plus the difficulty would be crazy. Fighting the final boss with just the first health upgrade, no ammo upgrades and the assault rifle would be so hype but also insane. My only issue rn is to get to the tower boss you have to do a really crazy damage boost that I haven't pulled off yet
Any% 100% Low% Everything but relics (maybe)
Anyone else have ideas for potential categories?
Escape. I figured it out the day of my current submitted run completely on accident. It allowed me to push my intro sequence down to a 1:16
It's possible but not worth it tbh. Also you have to do a insane damage boost in tower to get to the boss that I haven't been able to do once so basically impossible. You skip the weapon power upgrade after Anubis and miss the tower health upgrade. So you lose a lot over the course of the game.
I cant find many places where falling like that oob helps other than there which lets you get past a c4 door early which drops you right next to the run upgrade
Its still probably slower than just going there the normal way because you can fall through a lot of the rooms on the way there normally and to back track to there is weird.
I figured out a way to go out of bounds using the zombies to hit you https://streamable.com/ibb08
I'm not certain about IGT vs RTA but we should stop the timer when you lose control of your character like they do in Super Metroid. Super Metroid stops the timer when you press down to get in the ship at the end. IMO we should stop the timer when we die or when we get in the helicopter.
You can go OOB by rolling into the big gears on the floor in the tower. That's how you did that Ecdycis. I do it in that room if i want to get the ammo in the room below it. If you do it in the other rooms aka the one above the boss and to the left of the boss, you just fall forever since there is no OOB floor thing there.
You can also hold down the aim button when you are entering a room and then get hit OOB. I havent found a consistent setup for it because getting hit by a enemy while like that only works with certain ones. You are so far into the load zone that even rats running on the doorway wont hit you.
Something really minor is that every time you enter a room from below, you are still grounded until you start falling. So you can jump midair or even roll.
