Hello,
When verifying the most recent run I noticed that I think it is important to clarify a bit more on what the end frame of the run is. Currently timing is
"Timing starts when “begin game” is selected and ends when the last move is made"
So for the start it would be maybe the frame the screen starts to blur and for the end it could be
When the hand disappears When the circle piece fills the spot or can be similar to the NES Spot run where its the frame the opponent's score goes to 00
I'm not entirely confident every run was timed the same and figure as time goes on it would be better to figure it out now and just make sure all the runs match
Hey All!
So TheStrahl submitted a run that is WR by making the board have less spots. It makes sense and that is how the Game Boy run does it too. I have a few questions regarding this though.
-
Should there be like a separate category for a default board vs an edited board?
-
Should the editing of the board be timed at all or no? Currently the settings changes don't get timed so this probably should apply to board editing too.
I accepted the run because its any%, just figured I'd throw these questions out there.
I have made two tutorials with one being the beginner route and the second showing the 3 tougher routes that skip items to save time. I go through the route and boss fight for each. The 3 advanced routes are time stamped in the video description. Let me know if anyone thinks something should be added or fixed.

Hey All,
I was just wondering if anyone had an opinions on changing the rules about how runs are timed. Right now it says start on character control, but Floatious found a bit ago that character control actually occurs a few frames before the map/king kong shows up on screen. This occurs during darkness so there isn't really a visual cue other than just backing the video up a few frames.
It might be easier to time runs using the visual cue of the black screen appearing right when start is pressed, especially since milliseconds are so important near the top. Then runs would end on the frame you leave the boss room as it is already.
This would involve going back and retiming everyones runs which I would not mind doing. Just something I kind of thought about since I want to be as accurate as possible. Feel free to offer some other suggestion
