The Cave Speedrun Any% Legacy

First, sorry for the English mistakes. This is not my native language.

Usually, the speedrun is done on an previous version of the game than the actual (before the 2013 update). This update corrects some glitchs and skip used during the run.

  1. SOME ABBREVIATIONS AND TRICKS: Time traveler : TT ; Knight : KG ; TWins : TW.

Fast-touch : FsT (quickly alternate between Two characters to advance them at the same time). OOB : Out of Bound (out of the game limits and textures).

Ladders : When you climb a ladder, you can jump on it to climb faster. It’s possible in almost all the ladders in the game (except one in the Time Traveler Section and the second part of the last ladder at the end of the game). Quick Die : Often in the run we’ll use the quick die touch to go faster.

  1. THE CHARACTERS

The three characters used during the run are :

  • The Knight
  • The Time traveler
  • The Twins.

The special ability of the Knight will allow us to make some falls without dying. The special ability of the Time Traveler will be very useful to skip through doors and to skip the Twins section. We choose the Twins because their sections is very fast to pass with the Time traveler and ‘cause their special will allow us to finish faster one of the minecart.

  1. BEGINNING (AT THE FIRE)

The timer start when you take control of the character. 2.1 : First, choose the TT and go to the right to take the crowbar. Then, go left and start to take off the first plank. During the animation, take control of KG and place it next to the TT . Take off the second plank and during the animation place the TW next to the KG. 2.2 : When the cave’s door is open, let in the KG first (1 <-), then the TT (| 2) WITH THE CROWBAR and finally the TW (-> 3). Go to left with the KG and follow the path. Pull the cube to the left and place it next to the wall. Place the KG on the bridge, against the right wall. Take control of the Time Traveler, and quickly alternate the « 2 » and « 3 » touches in the same time you move to make move the Two characters at the same time (FsT). Follow the path with the Two characters, pay attention to not fall and die, otherwise you’ll go back to the start, and place the TT to the left of the bridge and the TW to the center. The bridge break down and fall to the next section.

  1. THE CAVE GIFTSHOP Take the KG and go talk to the Manager. At the beginning of the dialogue, go to the left and just before he say « You know… » press the 2 » key to take control of the TT . Use his special ability to pass through the staff’s gate. With the crowbar in his hand, follow the path to the next gate. Use the special to pass through and be careful to not fall in the spikes. Use the lever to open the gate. Go with the crowbar to the left and jump on the platforms to take off the wheel’s crank. Take the crank, you can now drop the crowbar. With the crank, go to the first wheel, at the right of the spike’s gate. Place the crank on the wheel, and activate it. During the animation, take control of the KG and take the giant key ; With the key, go to the left to open the staff’s gate. During the open animation, take back control of the TT and take the bucket. With it, go to the left after the spike’s gate, jump on the platform and place it on the fuse’s box. Take the fuse, and go back to the right. After the spike’s gate, go down the platforms on the left of the wheel, place the fuse on the box and use the hotdog’s machine. Take control of the KG, go down to the left, and take the hotdog. With the hotdog in your hands, use again the hotdog machine then with the TT , take back the fuse. With the Two characters (KG and TT ), rise back, go to the left, pass the spike’s gate again and with the KG go to the left to place the hotdog on the monster’s spike. Right after, go up with the TT to put back the fuse on the bucket’s box, then use the bell with the KG. Right after, use the lever at the left of the TT . After the monster’s capture, go to the left with the KG, at the pit use his special ability to fall against the wall without dying. Go down the ladders and take a dynamite. Quick die and light up the dynamite, then go to the right against the rocks and use the special to stay alive during the explosion. Always with the KG, go on the up right to take the first glorious trinket. Use FsT with TT and TW to move to the right. At the intersection, left the TW and go with TT to up right, use the special to go through the gate, climb the ladder and take the second trinket. Go down the ladder, go right and call the elevator. Go with TW to the right, pass the water and go next to the trinket. With TT push the elevator button and go on the platform. During the ascent, take the trinket with TW. With TT, go up and pass through the staff’s gate again. Give the first trinket to the Manager. Give the Two last trinkets. With the KG go back to tack the last hotdog. When he took it, go back with TT talk to the Manager to open the Cave’s Door, then go right and fall.

  2. THE KNIGHT SECTION After the fall in the water, take control of the KG (normally, he got the hotdog) and go to the left. At the pit after the rope, use his special to fall, and place it to the push button on the right. Take TW, and go to the left. Climb at the first rope, and climb the most possible. The head of the kid is a little in the pipe. Now, jump on he left, you’re now OOB. Go to the left and let you fall. When you’ll die, you’ll be teleport at the end of the KG section, enjoy ! ( N.B. this skip is no longer possible with the actual version of the game, or more more harder to realize ((the TWins are dying touching the pipe)) ).

  3. THE MINER Go with TT or TW on the right, and follow the path. You’ll arrive at Two levers. Pull one with TW and the other with TT. Take control of KG, jump on the rock to pass the spikes. Follow the path with ladders and ropes to the miner. Drop the hot dog at the beginning of the bridge. KG go directly on a bucket. Take the bucket as soon as possible then let him die and take control of TW. Put them on the rope and TT too. Go to the miner with TW, and take the shovel. Take control of KG and climb the ladder and the rope, and fill the bucket at the pond, then go to the miner again. The miner will throw dynamite. Catch the stick with the bucket, then drop him at the beginning of the bridge, where stand TW. Return catch a second dynamite’s stick. Drop the bucket before the ladder, then climb the ladder and the rope with KG and TW. Drop the stick before the pond. Go catch a last dynamite, then drop the bucket before the bridge.

  4. THE EMPTY MINECART Now, with KG and the dynamite in your hand, climb all the ladders and the rope and place TW next to the ladder at the left of the water’s pond. With KG, light up the dynamite at the flame and go next to the rocks. Use your special to not die. During the explosion, climb with TW and the shovel, go right to the passage and enter in the room. Go down the Two ladders and push the empty minecart to the left. Jump to enter in the minecart. After a fast dark screen you enter in a corridor, use the shovel on the panel. You’ll have an animation when the minecart with TW arrive before the miner. Now, die with TW, take the dynamite left before the bridge and climb the ladders.

  5. THE GOLD MINECART Light up the dynamite to the flame at the right of the ladder and drop them before the rocks. Turn back a little to not die. During the explosion, take control of TT and place her at the same place that the TW. With FsT, go to the right and enter the room. Let TW upstairs and with TT go down and right to pull the empty minecart. Let him slide and place you at the left of the gold pit. Now, with TW jump on the rope, DO NOT FALL and jump to the right. You can pass up to the machine and use the levers. When the minecart is full, die with TT and TW. Take control of TW and quickly press the TW touch to skip a little animation, go to the left. You’ll have an animation when the minecart enter the miner’s room.

  6. THE MEAT MINECART With TW, take the dynamite left before the water’s pond and climb the ladder. Light the dynamite at the flame and drop her next to the rocks. Stay back a little to not die. Now take control of KG and quick die to go back. Place him at the same position that TW. With FsT go to the left and pass the minecart’s station. 8.1: Place TW on the first platform. Fall on this platform with the special of KG. With KG, take the meat minecart and place it on the platform. Die with TW and with KG pull the minecart at the center of the room. 8.2: With TW, jump on the center platform and place them on the last platform on the left. When she’s down, pull the minecart on her with KG. Die with TW. 8.3: With TW, go to the platform on the right and use the TW special. You can now pull the minecart with KG to finish the section. 8.4: You’re now before the bridge.

  • take the bucket with KG, go on the bridge.

  1. THE TWIN SKIP. With TW go out of the water and go left. Pass the gate, fall and go to right. Continue to the right and go take a bone in the little graveyard next to a pit. Now with TT, go on right and jump to go upstairs. You’ll arrive at a gate.

Ok, now you have to use the special of TT through the gate and at the same time jump to pass the pit ! If you fall, use the quick die to win a little time. This is a little hard to pass so be careful to quickly press the jump touch during the teleport. Now you pass this, go on the right and go down the platform and enter the house.
Continue a little, you’ll arrive to 3 ways, go on the center and use the special to pass back of Dad. If you succeed that, TT will bug a little and now you can use your special to pass the door and continue to the next gate. Pull the three levers with the three characters to open the gate.

10 TIME TRAVELER SECTION. 10.1: With TW, use special to pass the stalactites, drop the hotdog before the big door on the left, pass before the time traveling machine and go upstairs. Go to the left, pass the stalactites and jump at the edge of the rock to go up and take the fuse. Use quick die to go next to the traveling machine. Go on the right and go down the first ladder. Go right, use special to pass the gate and you’ll have a long cutscene. 10.2: At the end of the cutscene, go right and go down the second ladder. Go left, go down the platforms and go left. Now, you have to do a little skip not really easy to make :

  • You must hang on the edge of the pit and quickly press on the jump/direction button to drop.
  • It’s not easy because the character will often climb the edge and not fall, but if you fall without hang one the edge, you’ll die.
  • When you succeed, go right and press the smelling dinosaur button and use quick die. 10.2: Go back, climb the platforms and the ladders, go left and pass before the GEOAT (Greatest Employee of All Time), press the button to open the door and use the time traveling machine to go to the prehistory. Climb the ladder, go left, and pull the rock to block the dropping water, use quick die to go back. Go on the right, go down the second ladder, go down the platforms (same way that when you were going to the smelling dinosaur), jump over the pit and go left where the Ancient GEOAT is. Pull a rock and place it before the pit. Now, you have to do the same manipulation than when you got the smell with hanging on the edge of the pit. Go next to the dinosaur to wake him up, use quick die. Now, you can kill him by pushing the rock down the pit.

10.3: Select the KG and with FsT place him and TW before the traveling machine. Drop the bone (that TW have still in her hands) before the big door on the left. Now, place TW and KG on the machine and go to the future. With Fst go to the right, pass before GEOAT, let TW on the elevator, and with KG go down the ladder. Go left, and go where the dinosaur where (use special to fall without dying) and use bucket to have petrol. Quick die.

10.4: During the dying animation, take control of TW and place theme before the big key. Take back control of KG and climb platforms and ladders. Place the petrol in the elevator and push button. Place the wheel on the elevator, push button and finally pull the wheel to the traveling machine. 10.5: Go (always with KG) in the prehistory and push the wheel to the second ladder. A cutscene will play when the wheel will fall. At the end of the cutscene (where Ancient GEOAT embraces the wheel), go with TT on the left, and push a rock to the pit to kill Ancient GEOAT; Right after that, take control of TW, you can now take the key. 10.6: With TW, go back in the present at the traveling machine and open the big door.

  • With TW, take back the bone,
  • with KG, take back the hotdog,
  • with TT, take the key.

10.7: Go to the left, follow the path and open all the doors on the way. When you’re at a gate, use special and open the last door.

  1. THE ZOO Okey, here’s a fast section. With TT (with normally nothing in hands), go to the left until she’s eaten by the monster. Take control of KG, use special to fall in the pit without dying. Go to the right, go down and finally go left. You’ll pass a bridge and you’ll find the monster. With the sausage’s smell, the monster will wake up and follow you. Go to the right and bring him on the bridge. ATTENTION ! be careful ! If you go to close to the monster, he’ll eat you and you’ll have to do all the zoo part normally (beTTer reset run if so) !!!

When the monster is on the bridge, the bridge will break. You can now fall in it.

  1. THE ISLAND 12.1: After the fall in the water at the end of the zoo, go right with KG. You’ll find the boat. Go in. Take control of TW, use FsT to go next to the boat with TT too. Go in the boat with TW. With TT, push the boat in the water and jump in. Cutscene. 12.2: At the end of the (long) cutscene, go backside of the boat with TW and push him under the ladder. Jump with KG on the ladder, climb up, go far to the right until you find the next ladder (with the hermit playing on top). Go up, go right and push the blue box. Go on the platform up and take the crossed pipe. Go back under the ladder and fall in the pit use special to no die). In the cave below, go to the right and you’ll find the emplacement for the crossed pipe. Place her and jump on the right to find the next pipe. Go far to the left, jump upstairs and place the pipe in the emplacement (overhead the valve). Go right, go down the first ladder, go left and turn the valve. 12.3: Take control of TW, jump on the ladder and follow the way to the right. After the parrot, drop the bone. Pass the water, and use the blue box to pass the obstacle. Next, use the pirate’s flag. Take control of TT and push the boat in the water on the right, the climb the ladder, go to the right and use the first pirate flag. Now, take back KG and pull the boat to the next water area (place you at the left of the boat to push it). Jump after the big barrage and o down the next ladder. Go to the left, use the pirate’s flag, and pull the barrel. You’ll arrive near to a lava area. Now, be careful : There’s a line on the floor, right after the barrel’s wick will be on fire. As soon as she is on fire, push the barrel on the left as fast as possible until he’s explode. Let KG die in the explosion. 12.4: Now, take back control of TT, release the pirate’s flag, go left and take the last pipe. Go left, go down the ladder, pass the water in the cave and follow the path. You’ll arrive in the pit free of his water. Inside, pull the lever and push the boat until the platform with a big balloon. Next to the platform, you can place the pipe and turn a valve. When it’s done, take control of TW and go to the right. Wait for the balloon to arrive, then push the boat to the right. Cutscene. 12.5: At the end of the cutscene, with TW jump out of the boat, take the crackers box and climb the ladder. Drop the crackers at the KG. With KG, take the crackers and go to the left where the parrot stand. Use the cracker to make the parrot go on your shoulder, then take the bone. Go to the right and climb the ladder. You can use the bone on the dog (where the hermit was before). After that, go on the right, be careful to use special to not die, and don’t go in the water or the parrot will go away. Go to right where the boat is. The hermit will go seek for his dog. Climb in the boat with the three characters.

  2. THE LAST GIFTSHOP AND THE ENDS. Last part. You’ll fall at the beginning of the game. Go with KG speak to the Manager at the right and he’ll give you the Giant Key. With that, go back to the laft, open the door, and follow the path. It’s the same that the beginning but without the puzzles, there is no spikes or doors now. Fall with he special where is a pit of lava, and go take the first trinket with KG. Use FsT to advance TT and TW. With TT go up, follow the path, climb the ladder, take the second trinket, go back and go call the elevator. During the elevator’s call, go underwater with TW and go in the room with the last trinket. Use the elevator button with TW again, go on the platform and during the rise, take the last trinket with TW. Now you can go back see the Manager with TW.

The last Ladder is long, don’t worry. Now, you’ll have to give the trinket with TW and climb the ladder on the right. As soon as the drawing appear, close it. Repeat for the Two last character.

The timer end when the fire appears.
