# Text Mashing:

Text scrolls at a consistent speed, however you need to press a button to progress a line. With *type sound* on, you can't progress a line until the sound effect concludes, which greatly impedes the speed of text scrolling. Therefore, make sure to turn *type sound* off. The best way to mash through text is to tap *Z*, *X*, *Space*, and *Enter* (and *Numpad 0* if you have it). Make sure not to hold any button too long, otherwise the *confirm* or *cancel* inputs will overlap.

English text is the fastest since it includes the least lines, while Japanese and Indonesian text speeds are fairly even. Usually Japanese would be faster, however this game doesn't include Kanji, which would otherwise reduce the number of characters. As a rough estimate, English saves a second for every 20 seconds of text mashing compared to other versions.

# Overworld Dash:

In the Japanese version only, it is possible to briefly preserve your dash in the overworld. The duration of the dash seems to extent the more buttons you hold **right before** you regain control of your character. Compared to other versions, this trick saves several seconds over the course of a run if done optimally.

# Menu Stepping:

By pressing a direction and the menu button simultaneously, you will move a tile with the menu open. This can be used to skip some tiles that trigger cutscenes and other events, though it doesn't work in all cases.

# Versions:

There are 3 versions of the game:

- Japanese (1.07), which saves several seconds with faster overworld movement.
- English (1.07), which saves over a dozen seconds with faster text mashing.
- Indonesian (1.06), which loses over a dozen seconds compared to English text mashing, and several seconds compared to Japanese overworld movement. I suppose you can run softlock% with this version though?

The game has been patched 7 times since its initial release. These patches include significant changes that impact the run. Feature differences according to the game's patch log include:

- <1.06: the *type sound* option, dialogue changes, map changes, progression bugs, unknown bugs, cutscene skip functionality
- <1.03: dialogue changes, side quest changes, unknown bugs

# Forest Exit Skip:

One of the only major glitches used in the run. Menu Stepping through the 3 event tiles barring your way skips having to do the Forest intro sequence. In order to leave the Forest, you have to go through a cutscene with Neme. There are some minor bugs during this cutscene that let you interrupt your movement, as well as briefly remove your sprite. You can also Menu Step and skip this cutscene, however it will break and lock the Forest progression. You also won't be able to save since the Black Book doesn't appear in your menu.

### Purgatory wrong warp:

When you do the Sea Route, you will end up in purgatory after going into the sea, and then end up back next to the village. However, if you Menu Step the cutscene with Neme when exiting the Forest before doing the Sea route, you will briefly appear in the forest before reappearing next to the village.

# Dark Woods Entrance Barrier Skip:

Skipping this barrier is initially impossible. However, once you talk to the former party members, the Black Book will gain some dialogue commenting on the Barrier. If you run at the barrier while the dialogue is still open, you can clip through the barrier, allowing you to access both the throne memory and the 'Seeing your Shadow' memory.

### >100 memory:

If you skip the barrier, view both cutscenes, and return to the Red Demon, he will "dispell" the barrier. This restores the sequence you skipped and allows you to view both cutscenes again, which means you can increase your memory value well past 100.

# Dark Woods Dark Lord backtracking:

Usually, after dispelling the barrier with the 3 dark items in the Dark Lord route, it is not possible to return back where you came from. However, if you dash up while the cutscene is still playing, you can exit the Dark Forest before the exit is locked.

### Dark Item Duping:

Once you're outside the Dark Forest, you can go to the Castle and give your dark items to the Minstrel. Then you can go back and do the route as normal. When you go through the "Dark Lord Reborn" cutscene, the game will subtract your dark items from your inventory, giving you -1 of each dark item. Once the cutscene ends and you go back in time, you still retain the dark items. With this, you can go back to the Minstrel and duplicate multiple positive dark items, or instead fill your inventory with negative dark items.

### Full Negative Inventory:

If you fill your inventory with negative amounts of items, you can delete any items you attempt to acquire and progression lock the game.

# Castle Infiltration Dashing:

During the Castle Infiltration with Phoelin, dashing will alert the guards and cause the room to be reset. However, if you time your dash input with your movement, and alternate between dashing several tiles and pausing, you can circumvent this trigger while moving quickly.

# Memory Cutscene Walking (Harty & Nurv):

Harty's and Nurv's Memory cutscenes don't disable your actions fully; there are small windows where you can still act. This allows you to interact with objects and move several tiles. On top of that, there is a tight window where you can open your menu while the cutscene is progressing: for Harty it's a frame before first talking to her, and for Nurv it's a tight window between his dialogue and the beginning of the flashback. With the menu open, you can interact with it whenever you progress a textbox. If you attempt to save during the cutscene, the game will crash.

# Harty's Memory menu lock:

If you time your inputs correctly, it is possible to lock your menu during Harty's cutscene, preventing you from using a Forget-Me-Now.

# Princess Room cutscene menu unlock:

During the ending sequence in the Princess' Room, your menu will be locked. You can unlock it by interacting with a World Fragment.

# Neme's House softlock:

If you press down while holding up and attempt to exit Neme's House, you will enter a cutscene state that locks all your directional keys other than the up key, thereby softlocking the game. This occurs only after you perform the Dark Forest sequence. However, if you're playing on the Indonesian version (and presumably other 1.06 versions), you can do it as soon as you start the game, making it possible to softlock the game in under 10 seconds.

# Princess Door cutscene skip:

You can Menu Step past the door when infiltrating the castle with Pheolin. If you miss the timing and trigger the cutscene, you can still periodically walk while the cutscene is playing.

# Any% side-quest notes:

After talking to the three former party members, you need to increase your heart in preparation for the ending. This is done by completing a complex series of side-quests, for which the efficient sequence goes as follows:
