Ok so I noticed something weird about the new Pimp My Ride WR. First of all, wp to EZScape on beating marcoboo268's 7:56 with a nice 7:42. As I'm uploading this video, the run has not been approved yet but I'm sure it will come. What I want to discuss is the 6:56 time by Sex. The first thing that caught my attention was the speed at which it was verified. The run was submited on 2021-03-13 and approved on 2021-03-16 by... Sex himself... which was not a moderator on speedrun.com for that game prior to that time. I have not spoken to whataboutbrunch, the other moderator and thus might be missing informations but that fact alone seemed weird to me.
For this video, I put on top of each other clips of both Sex's run and marcoboo268's run (which is the one in black and white). As you can see with the timer, the new WR has loading screen 4-ish second shorter. I even double checked with an other even that both runners do, same result. Let's be real clear : I am NOT accusing Sex of cheating. Maybe his emulator is just better, maybe the PAL Wii version as shorter loading screens, at the end of the day, idk.
I should have mentionned it earlier but I am extremely far from a speedruning expert. I don't know a lot about the way issues like this are handled. What I do know however is that, if there is no cheating involved (which I don't think there is), having multiple emulators that interact in different ways with the game/different versions of the game that are not identical might just an immense advantage.
Maybe the solution is to "force" runners to play on a specific emulator/version of the game. Maybe the solution is to create multiple categories. Maybe there is an other solution (probably). idk
The run you're comparing against is a run performed on PS2 emulator, while my run is on Wii emulator. The loads are likely to be different as they are different versions of the game. Most games on SRC do not split their boards based on console for things as minor as load times. I am holding this game to the same standard that most other boards do. It is worth mentioning that my runs are also performed with stock CPU settings, which would influence the load times to be faster than allowed had they been tampered with. My loads can easily be replicated by anyone capable of running Dolphin at full speed.
Regarding the fact that the run was approved by me when I wasn't a mod prior, I made a post on the forums requesting moderator because the only mod hasn't been online in 3 weeks and has an inactivity problem. You can see the post https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/dueac/199 here.
Also, it's worth mentioning that EZScape has not submitted his run to these boards as of now, I approved every run that was awaiting verification when I gained moderator.
@Sex Do you have to have a LiveSplit for this game and do you have to know how to use LiveSplit as well. The game does not have an IGT?
@SpeedRunFan2022 Without an on screen timer it's still possible to time a run properly, just check the timestamp at the start and at the end of the run it's enough
