2 Ways To Dodge Blue Shells

The first way to dodge a Blue Shell is to do a mini turbo right when it is about to hit you. The timing is hard but with a bit of practice you will be able to dodge blue shells.

The second way is to get a mushroom and boost when it is about to attack you.

The Dry Bomber, Rob BLS, Mushmellow, Poltergeist 3000 and Egg 1 are really good for snaking. These make them good for speedrunning.

How To Get Items Quicker

By pressing the L or X button multiple times your item can come quicker. This can help you in mission mode when you have to fight the bosses that require items.

Lightning Cup Shroomless Shortcuts

On Sky Garden there is a ramp next to a boost ramp. You can charge up a mini turbo when you are about to go off road and wen you are off road it will go orange. Release R to activate the mini turbo and do a jump on the ramp to get to the other part of the road. On Yoshi Circuit there is a ramp that is covered in grass around the start of the stage. You have to do the same thing you did on sky garden and don't forget to jump when you release R.

Prolonged Rocket Boost (PRB) is a technique that maintains max speed over any type of terrain. There are only two ways to start PRBing: 1) a perfect start boost, or 2) a rainbow zipper boost. The only way to maintain PRB is to never have a gap between your mini-turbos (MTs) or the original boost. This means that you must start and complete your next MT before your previous MT wears off. 

The length of time a MT is active is only dependent on your kart's acceleration stat. So, the Dry Bomber is the easiest kart to maintain PRB because it has the highest acceleration stat. Egg1 is a little bit more difficult, Poltergust still more difficult, and the real all-stars of MKDS can maintain PRB in the ROB-BLS, which is incredibly demanding. 

When you lose PRB in a run, the only way to regain it is by hitting a zipper and then continuing to MT. PRB cannot be started by using a mushroom boost, and you will lose PRB when you use a mushroom. PRB is useful for many tracks in the game, and the best tracks to practice the technique are probably Retro Mario Circuit 1 (to maintain start boost) and Retro Luigi Circuit MKDD (to maintain zipper boost). If you're really talented, you can even sneak some correction hops in between MTs. Remember, you're going max speed the entire time you are PRBing, so your racing line is what separates good times from great times.

Little tidbit: although Dry Bones is typically the character of choice in time trials because it's the least affected by terrain slowdowns, with PRB every character goes the same speed given the same kart.

Snaking

Hey guys! If you're new to this game, you may not know how to snake. Snaking is a technique of making multiple mini turbo boosts on a straight, and for experienced users, on difficult turns!
To get your mini turbo faster, start a drift and push the control stick in that direction. Then push it to the opposite and back to the direction you're moving. You have built up a quick mini turbo!
So to snake, you would drift left and do the trick, and after doing it, drift right and do it. This gives you more speed than just driving. It also allows you to handle shortcuts normally requiring a mushroom to keep your speed, as it's fast enough to do it.
So which vehicles are good at snaking? Well to list a few, Egg 1, Dry Bomber and ROB-BLS. These have excellent handling and can easily win a race for you by repeating the trick. High speed characters like Bowser don't have this handling, hindering their snaking ability.

The Best Stages For Practicing Snaking

If you need some practice for snaking then you should practice on Figure 8 Circuit. It has two straight lines and it is perfect for snaking. Mario Circuit 1 is also good for practicing snaking because it has multiple straight lines. Baby Park is a very simple stage and it has two straight lines to practice snaking.
