What are your suggestions? I know I could just show the splits or something but I want to actually record my gameplay.
My setup involves a locker stand, my webcam, and 2 pieces of tape. The webcam is mounted to look down from the top of the stand. As for the 3DS, I just hold it in my hands with my wrists sitting on my desk under the locker stand. It is rather uncomfortable, but I got used to it. Also, if you don't have small hands, you may not be able to fit them between the legs of the locker stand. As for the software that you can use to record, I highly recommend open broadcaster software (OBS). It may take a bit to get situated for what you want, but as for free recording software out there, I can't think of anything else that can even compare.

I personally just jury rigged a setup using my phone as a webcam and suspending it from the ceiling. It means that the gameplay sometimes goes out of shot, but it isn't too uncomfortable.
