How to Conquer Golf

NOTE: Video examples shall be added with time since I currently don't have examples of every hole so far, be patient.

I've been doing quite a bit of practice on golf recently since there's no way to skip it as of now, and I wanted to make this guide to help other runners lower their times, and to have golf feel less of a nuisance overall.

Before I get into explaining the holes I wanted to go over the one thing I think is worse than missing a shot, HESITATION. If you want to lower your times by a lot in golf you need to get use to the idea of chasing after the ball for every shot, even the ones you know will go it. The reason I say this is on the off chance you miss, you're already going to be right next to the ball to correct the mistake, losing virtually no time at all. If you try to land a shot, and you miss while you're waiting for it to go in, you're going to lose a whole bunch of time walking to where the ball is (anywhere from 2-5 seconds). Also, if you hesitate in setting up your angles and power it could hurt your times as well. If you're close enough, just go for it.

Now that I've talked about that, I can talk about the holes themselves. 

Hole 1 is the easiest hole by a large margin. You can learn how to finish hole 1 in 2 strokes with small amount of practice. First, you want to aim for the corner on the left at max power. Then, you want to aim for the hole when the power bar is just barely showing red.

Hole 2 is where things get tricky. It's kind of hard to explain things this point on so bear with me. Also, here's a picture of my setup for hole 2.

So what's happening here? Right now I'm aiming in between two dots on the wall (which you probably will not see unless you play with graphics set to fantastic). After I aim in between the dots, I'm looking to set my power to the exact amount in the photo. If you line this up in this way, the ball should go straight into the hole. I'd also like to add that the best way to practice hole 2 (in my opinion) is to make your own setup and practice that since not all setups work the same for everyone. I'm leaving mine here as just another option you may learn if you'd like to.

Finally, I'd like to talk about hole 3. Hole 3 is a mess. Here's a video of a hole in 1 on hole 3.

Now, I'll give a little breakdown of the video. Around 0:04 I'm looking for a specific angle on the wall, it kind of looks like the line is both half way inside and outside the wall. After I find where I want to aim, I'm looking to change my power to the correct amount. You can see I'm very slowly inching the power back as little as I can do, resetting the power back to max when I fail. At 0:10 I get the correct change in power. What I'm looking for there is for a change in power 2 times. Once I see that I know it's correct and I take the shot. The reason this shot works is that at this specific angle and power, the ball will gain enough speed from colliding with the wall to make it into the hole without overshooting the hole.

Odds are, you probably won't get a hole in 1 on hole 3 every time you do it, since you're not guaranteed to even AIM at that spot. But if the planets align, the clocks somehow read 77:77, you have a four leafed clover, a lucky rabbit's foot, and you can somehow line up this shot, then go for it.

And there you have it. I hope this guide helps you all in lowering your golf times by a large amount. I also hope this guide doesn't seem like a ramble.

Jazzpunk Auto Splitter Install Guide!

It's pretty simple but i just wanted to drop a quick line for people who don't know how to add it!.

First download the Auto Splitter from the "Resources" Tab.

Extract it and MAKE SURE you have 9 Splits only or it WILL NOT work.

Go to "Edit Layout" within livesplit, click add and then "Control" then "Scriptable Auto Splitter".

Double Click "Scriptable Auto Splitter" then click "Browse" find the "JazzpunkSplitter.als" file.

and you're done, save your layout and off you go.

You can change settings like if you want it to "Start, Split" or "Reset".

The timer will start the MOMENT the level loads and not on first input, maybe one day this will be a feature but for now just keep this in mind.

YOU DO HAVE TO SPLIT FOR THE LAST PILL IN THE CREDITS SO KEEP THIS IN MIND.

Load Remover Install Guide (Temporary)

We've got a load remover for Jazzpunk. The whole thing is >temporary< as Fatalis (the author) is working on implementing the auto splitter into the load remover. It is very accurate and will remove all level loads. This only accounts to a few seconds and the latest patch has certainly removed a large chunk of the initital loading times but it might also work with patchless, where this is a huge improvement overall.

Quick install guide:
- Add "scriptable auto splitter" to your Livesplit layout
- Load the .asl file
- Make sure you compare against Game Time rather than Real Time

- Open Livesplit, right click, edit layout, then add "Scriptable Auto Splitter" as a new component:

Patchless bug list

I made this video about 3 years ago when I was discovering a bunch of bugs in this game. Most of these have been patched but some are useful in the patchless speedrun. This video does not show the bananaphone skip (aka cake skip) because I did not discover it until 2 months after I made this video. Also it does not show the new station OOB that was recently discovered.

I mentioned the majority of these bugs to the developers and they patched most of these, so you can blame me for them fixing most of these.

Pet Commander cat minigame ranks

Playing around in Cheat Engine and I was able to figure out the ranks for the cat minigame in the last level. most of these change rank every 5000 but a few.

0 to 1999: LAZY PAWS
2000 to 4999: IDLE WHISKERS
5000 to 9999: MR. CUDDLEBOTTOMS
10000 to 19999: SNUFFLE MUNCHKIN
20000 to 24999: SNUGGLEPUSS
25000 to 29999: NIP COMMANDER
30000 to 34999: COD STOCKING
35000 to 39999: CATNADO
40000 to 42999: YULETIDE PUSS
43000 to 49999: CATACLYSM
50000+: SANTA CLAWS

Replacing Pigeon Progress

When completing the side quest in Soviet Consulate the data from that mission is retained in the game's memory causing the cutscene of Polyblank burping out the pigeon to happen everytime when loading into Koi Pond. During the cutscene the player isn't in control causing them to lose a few seconds.

I made this video on how to fix that issue instead of trying to look through server messages from three years ago.

Verbal Morality Statute - Special Agent

One of the objectives, in the Special Agent category, for runs to be counted as valid is the verbal morality statute achievement. To accomplish this you need to write a sequence of letters considered a profane word by the game. The letters on each number on the numberpad don't have to be pressed a specific number of times to register - just once.
