Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak – Any% Guide

Acknowledgements: This guide based on Piraka12’s initial Any% guide and has been created in collaboration with Zackattack_056.

Hopefully this informal guide helps you regardless of what language you choose to run it in. This guide was written with the intention of running the game in Japanese as it saves the most time with much less text.

NOTE: While not specified in this guide, things to make your running super-efficient is to work on movement and positioning of Hamtaro and Bijou in some areas to reduce walking animation with some chat prompts. Examples include: Hamlift areas, Lookie at the Spat Tower bridge, Clingie vines, The Scrub-E minigame at Boo Manor. Hamigos at Sunny Peak against Spat. Pakapaka the boat’s rope at Sunny Peak. Etc.

Also, practice and save states are your friend here (If on emulator). It’s good to have save states before the start of each area of the run to be able to go back and practice. GOOD LUCK!!

Name characters “.” for less text during dialogue. Timer starts on Yep-P. Watch opening nightmare scene Wake up and go downstairs to kick off the start of the game. Tutorial: Learn the 4 basic Ham Chats (+6 others) with Boss Chat order most of the game, unless specified. Numbers and words in brackets refer to the placement of the Ham-Chat.

SUNNY PEAK -Go up ignoring everything till you’re on the top screen -Step on the tree stump (Left side), get Heyhoo -Hamha Oxnard, get Bluhoo -Walk on handkerchief, get Gogo OPTIONAL: this can be skipped and picked up towards the end of the run. Most runners get it early. -Go all the way right and down the two vines, then left. Lookie (5) at Arnie, get Pakapaka -Use Pakapaka (5) on the rope (DO NOT ENTER boat). Digdig hole above vine to exit and re-enter level.
-Go up and then right, Hamha the orange ham, say Yep-P, get Putput -Heyhoo (5) the duckie, get Offdoff from Seamore. Offdoff duckie. -Offdoff (last option) the battery -On the dock use Putput (5) and drive the boat to Bijou -Rescue Bijou, get Mega-Q -Use the boat to go back to the Hamlift Duo (At the base of the wooden stairs) Tack-Q the Hamlift duo, get Hamlift -Take boat to Arnie, Hamha ask you to get the duckie. -Use Hamlift (last chat) to talk to Pepper, say Yep-P to her, then say Bluhoo (last chat) -Get Oopsie from Pepper -Reunite Oxnard and Pepper to get Gossip-P (Couple 1/10) -Try to leave right, Meet Spat, Get Smoochie from Bijou -Return to Clubhouse and meet harmony -Directly re-enter Clubhouse -Get the duck seat from Seamore (only chat choice) in the photoroom -Go back to Sunny Peak Sunny Peak 2 -Pass by the one Blue Hamlift Ham on the right side, Hamlift at the base of the sunflower (last chat) for 20 Sunflower seeds -Return to Arnie via boat, give duckie with Yep-P, go up vines. -Get Sesam-E from Arnie and lil Brother -Seasam-E the door (last chat) Buy a banana (3rd item) from the sales ham -Give bananas to Ukiki (the monkey), Leave screen by going right then back left, slip on the banana peel -Go back to the cave passage, left, down, left, up, up -Use Sesam-E (5) with Lil Bro -Reunite Arnie and Lil Bro to get Hamigos (Couple 2/10) -Go left and talk to Sales Ham -Get Oil Can (1st item) from Sales Ham (5 sunflower seeds) -Go up rope where the Sales Ham used to be, next to minecart -Confront Spat with Hamigos (last chat) twice. -Spat will then fly off screen. SANDY BAY -Hamha to Boss to get info to go to Sandy Bay -Go left Tack-Q Mi rock -Go down and left, Tack-Q bottom stone for Do -Lookie (Last chat) to surf Ham -Tack-Q Mi rock (next to pinapple) -Go right Hamha the blue hamster for tingle then Lookie (last chat) -Hif-Hif Pinapple Ham, then Tingle (2nd last chat) to get the pineapple

• Go left, Tack-Q Re stone below Captains Wife -Hamha Wife for Blanko -Go Right Tack-Q the Sunbathing Ham for Bizzaroo -Tack-Q Fa twice (Stone under Sunbathing Ham) -Tack-Q Re (Under Capt. Wife) -Go right and Tack-Q Mi (Next to Pinapple Ham) -Go left and down to the screen with Surfer Ham, Tack-Q So (Top right stone), Then Do (stone below).
• Hamha Surfer Ham, go left for Spat cutscene, approach Barrette and get Gasp-P -Go to screen with bucket, Gasp-P (only chat) for Fussfuss. -Digdig bucket for marble (1/3) -Go back to the Clubhouse and Gasp-P at Boss/Seamore -Return to Barrette (Gasp-P Ham stuck at sea) -Watch cutscene, Reunite Seamore and Barrette (Couple 4/10) Get Fend-D. -Hifhif bottle above plank. -Digdig at big music note stone, Hamha, then Fussfuss (5) the Captain. -Leave and go to the port, Hamha the Captain Yep-P to go to the Island -Up Ladder, Cutscene of Penelope and Pashmina, go left and Hif-Hif Pashmina’s scarf -Go Left then back to lounge (Above Pashmina) Hamha the Cyan Ham in the lounge area to get “Dizzy For You” (Sitting close to the entrance) -Hamha the Guard Ham at the entrance of the dance contest, enter the dressing room -Tack-Q -> Stickie (3) -> Scrit-T (Last chat) on Pashmina -Meet the two Pashminas up the tower, back at the start of the then back to lounge -Hamha, then Heyhoo (Last chat) x2 the sleeping Elder Ham to get Tuggie -Return to Pashmina and Tuggie (Last chat) to reveal Spat -Reunite Pashmina and Penelope to get Snorklie (Couple 5/10) -Take boat back to Sandy Bay -Go all the way left, Talk to the Coach Ham and play a match (Press A, before it hits head) -Hamha the blue Ham at entrance of Sandy Bay and Yep-P to get Ta-Dah -Return to the Clubhouse -Have Harmony reveal the next location, Fun Land -Hamha Boss and Harmony for Passchat

FUN LAND -Hamha to get Scrub-E from Yellow Ham and HamBot -Digdig the trash to get Trash (DON’T LOOKIE)

• Go up and left to play Stickie Note. Yep-P and then No-P through dialogue. Stop at 600 points. NOTE: RNG can ruthless here. Save stating and practicing here is recommended. No matter how good the run is going, you can lose 2minutes and more if you accidently Stickie the clock. Good luck and avoid the clock!) -Exit and Tack-Q the Red Ham Ranger to get Blash-T -Go down, right and up to the Ferris Wheel, wait for cutscene to end -Go down to the control room (Straight down, the entrance is hidden in the trees on the right) and reveal Spat causing mischief! -Pakapaka (Last chat) the Blue Ham in corner -Hamha the Blue Ham -Heyhoo (Last chat) the Hambot at entrance -Hamha and Yep-P the Green Ham near the balloon trolley to get Chukchuk -Back to the control room, Chukchuk (Last chat) the trash onto Spat -Scrub-E (Last chat) to the Hambot -Reunite Ham and Machine, get Tiptop (Couple 6/10) -Go to the Screen with the teacups ride which is left of the Ferris Wheel. -Gasp-P (Last chat) Stan to get Hamteam, No-P to end dialogue.
• Digdig below, return to Clubhouse and reveal Boo Manor as next location. (Get Passchat from Boss and Harmony if missed after Sandy bay)

BOO MANOR -See Spat bossing his way past the Gate Ham. -Hamha the Gate Ham -Hif-Hif the flyer near the entrance -Digdig the Pipe to go up it. -Meet the Sales Ham and Blash-T (last chat) twice and then Yep-P to buy Cute Couple ID (1st item) -Ta-Dah (Last chat) the Gate Ham and enter -Heyhoo (Last chat) the Desk Ham to get Thump-P -Ta-Dah (Last chat) the Desk Ham for the Bronze Card -Go all the way left and downstairs, Thump-P the Aqua Ham to get Go-P -Go back up, to the far right on the first floor, watch ghost enter, use the Bronze Card to get into the room -Hif-Hif the note, then use Go-P on the Mirror 2nd to the left against wall. -Enter for Ghost Ham Boss Battle, Stickie three times to get the Silver Card. Strategy: Stand at the middle tile between cycles, then run to where the Ghost appears (If you’re super confident, you can guess where the Ghost will spawn and stickie in advance, 1/5 chance to guess it)
-Hif-Hif to pick up card. -Hif-Hif the board, then Put-put (Last chat) it on the gap -Up the stairs to the lobby, Hamlift the elevator to the get to the 2nd floor. (After the stairs, stay centre to not get blocked by Aqua Ham in the hall). -Hamha then Blash-T (Last chat) Howdy and Dexter to get Hamspar -Go right and enter first room, Hamspar (5) the firepit -Only Hamha the Ghost Ham on the right, get Nopookie. -Exit, Go left and upstairs, Tack-Q the Ghost Ham in front of the door, then Hamspar (Last chat) to go inside. -Run to Dexter to have Hamtaro fall -As Bijou, return to fireplace room downstairs and Hamspar (Last chat). NOTE: Japanese version has Go-P as the last chat but greyed out, careful button mashing. -Tack-Q both elders to get Nok-Nok and Pushie -Nok-Nok (Last chat) and Pushie (Last chat) the left side of the blank wall right of the stairs to find Howdy and Hamtaro -Heyhoo (Last chat) to Howdy to get Hamtaro awake -Exit room, go left and upstairs to 3rd floor elevator. -Liber-T (Last chat) to the Green Ham. -Return to Hamtaro and Howdy -Say Liber-T (Last chat) to the Green Ham -Reunite with Hamtaro -Reunite the Green and Magenta Ham to get Flipflop (Couple 7/10) -On third floor, enter 2nd room from stairs (Where we saw a Ghost Ham enter), play Scrub-E mini game to win the Gold Card. Strategy: Scrub-E Tiles 2 then 1 completely, then push all blocks, finish Tiles 4 and 3. -Exit and Hamha the Green ham at 3rd floor elevator -Hamlift (Last chat) elevator -Go all the way left, Tack-Q middle of the wall at the end of the hallway. OPTIONAL: Thump-P the Ham on the way down the hall for Perskie. -Take the Quiz with the ghost ham.

-Encounter Spat, on the tiles you're already standing on, use Flipflop (Last chat), then Nopookie (Last chat) to make Spat flee. -Exit left and Thump-P (Last chat) the Ghost Ham in hallway to get Perskie if you didn't get it before. -Use the exit mirror to return to the Clubhouse -Have Harmony reveal Wildwoods

WILDWOODS -Go right and Hamha Elder to get Wait-Q -Go back -> down -> right -> down to see Spat with Cappy -Hamha then Bizzaroo (Last chat) Cappy to get Hampact SUNNY PEAK 3 -Return to Sunny Peak and go to Seedric’s Cave (Left of where we got Gogo chat), find Spat escaping. -Digdig into Seedric’s cave, Hamha Seedric -Return to Wildwoods

NOTE: Depending on how accurate and fast your button mashing and text selection is, you can either return via the cave or the exit down the vine and the hole next to the big sunflower/waterfall. With perfect text response cave is 1-2seconds faster. If not confident, use the waterfall to play it safe.

-Return to Cappy, Lovedove (Last chat) from above Cappy to ensure they run left. -Go up and get trapped by Bog -Hamteam (Last chat) Bog set trap for Cappy -Go up and around to avoid the Cappy’s fleeing animation. Make Cappy Flee and get trapped. -Bluhoo (Last chat) to Cappy about the cap, then Yep-P -Reunite Cappy and Seedric to get Hamboree (Couple 8/10) -Enter the yellow hotsprings, Digdig to get the Egg -Return to Wildwoods (REFER TO NOTE ABOVE ABOUT ROUTE) -Ta-Dah (Last chat) to Bog at entrance to get Clingie -Clingie (Last chat) on vine near the music notes rock to find Jingle, use Wait-Q -Get Thank-Q from Jingle, Clingie (Last chat) the vine on the stump to exit area -Attend the wedding ceremony (Left from entrance where we got Wait-Q from Elder Ham) -Exit then re-enter area, go left into the first house -Buy the rubber band from the Sales Ham with Yep-P (5 sunflower seeds) -Exit village and encounter the Hamscope Ham -Go to Swamp area, Heyhoo (Last chat) on the sand spot, Spat throws Y-Stick. Hif-Hif the Y-stick -Go back where you encountered Hamscope Ham -Go right to enter the inventor house -PutPut (Last chat) the husband working on the machine for the Slingshot -Return to the village and go right -Witness the Hamscope Ham near the Palace -Exit village and get Hamscope (aim with D-pad, A to shoot once chat is selected) -Hamscope (Only chat) the Ham. NOTE: Pre-emptive diagonal movement is useful here to hit the Ham fast. -Return to Spat -Hamscope (Last chat) the beehive above Spat -Hif-Hif the Red Marble -Try to exit Wildwoods, but let the couple find you, then return to the wedding. -Reunite the Husband Ham and Wife Ham to get Vas-T (Couple 9/10) -Hamha the elder Ham to get the Red Marble (Marble 3/3) -Return to Clubhouse -Have Harmony reveal the next location, leave to Sunny Peak

Sunny Peak 4 -Return to the cave with Sesam-E, (NOT VIA THE BOAT) NOTE: STEP ON HANKERCHIEF IF YOU SKIPPED GETTING THE GOGO HAMCHAT AT START OF THE RUN. -Putput the Oil Can on the lever, then press A to turn lever (You want if pointed LEFT). -Go to the cart on the top of the mountain -Putput (1st chat) the Oil Can on the cart, then Gogo (2nd chat) on the cart (Putput and Gogo are the only chat options at the cart here) -Get Rub Rub -Putput (Last chat) three times to place all marbles into the pedestal -Tuggie the Spoon/Master Sword. -Gogo (Last chat) and exit to Spat Tower

SPAT TOWER -Use all possible extra Ham chats in front of the gate (Last four chat options) -Return to Wildwoods WildWoods 2 -Hamha the Orange Ham Inventor -Hamha the Pink Ham, then Yep-P, then Ta-Dah (Last chat) -Reunite the Inventor and Wife Ham to get Wake-Q (Couple 10/10!!) -Exit and re-enter, Hamha Inventor Ham, then Yep-P Spat Tower 2 -Gogo (Last Chat) on the Hamapult and Stickie (Only chat) the button -Enter Spat Tower -Go inside the cave on right -Perskie the door -Passchat (Last chat) to the Black Ham blocking the door to Spat Tower -Liber-T (2nd Last chat option) to the Black Ham, then Yep-P -Face off against Spat, Hamscope (Last chat) NOTE: Don't bother aiming just shoot. -Play the puzzle game, activate with Gogo (Last chat) start with middle piece. NOTE: Good to save state and practice this area. Check out some videos to get the pattern down. -Return to Harmony at the Clubhouse and ChukChuk (Last chat) and then Hamteam (Last chat) -Get Love Shots from Harmony -Return to Spat Tower and re-battle -Hamscope and hit to trigger final boss battle. NOTE: Aiming not be necessary.

-Battle Strategy: Spat will fly back and forth across the room and will either Tornado or Laser. Tornado will kick you out and reset the fight. Eyes will glow and fire a laser which stuns whichever ham gets hit for a long time. Follow Spat and move out of way when he attacks. Tornado can be difficult to dodge. When Spat stops to laugh, his mouth will be vulnerable. QUICK! Hamscope and shoot into his mouth! Try to aim for the Central/lower half of the mouth, hitbox can be weird here if you aim too high. This boss fight can be very difficult with some bad RNG. It is possible for Spat to only attack once and then open his mouth, typically it is two attacks and then an opening. Recommend watching some footage and practicing with save states.
