Has it ever been suggested for a feature to change the name colour in the same way you can change the theme colour etc. ?

You can. Edit Profile -> Name colour. You can also do a gradient colour if you donate.

@ShikenNuggets he means entering it in hex instead of just choosing one of 16 colours. It's currently not possible, I forgot the reason why but it made sense to me back when I was told so I didn't inquire more.
