Formating and notes

  • Required objectives are prefaced with [ ] to keep track of them better.
  • 'XX% run' means let stamina recover till bar is filled to XX% then start running.
    When (premature) is appended at the end, this means stamina should be recovered before it runs out. The place to start walking is also written down behind XX% run. Otherwise deplete stamine before the next XX% run command.
  • Steps prefaced with bullet points are combat related and will preface the related objective if any
    Combat abbreviations:
  • Combo = keep left clicking i.e. basic attacking
  • Heavy = right click i.e. wind-up attack
  • Kick = run and push zombie
  • Push = push zombie (F) without running
  • Knife = stealth kill
  • Dash knife = Jump to target and knife them
  • Run execute = kick then execute zombie on the ground
    Note: Holding a firearm before executing speeds up the execution. Meele weapon is equiped automatically afterwards.
    Note: Pushing a Butcher, Bouncer or Linda in the back after jumping will knock it down. Movement notes:
  • You can stand up inside fallen stone pilars so crouch only for a split second.
  • You are not attacked while tying are rope/grappling hook.
  • Butchers are dangerous chasers. You can force their gaurd by pushing them, giving you some time.
  • 'X' run dash = continuously dashing while holding run, which is fastest way to move at expense of much stamina. Where 'X' is amount of dashes, if no number given then dash as much as possible.
  • Reload firearms whenever long crouch or long stamina recovery occurs.
  • It is recomended to watch a speedrun, link, to easier follow this text guide and see subtle pathing not mentioned in the guide.

Possible route changes

Glitches

  • Cutscene movement: On the boat, by dashing and running into the camera while picking it up, you move out of bounds during the cutscene and die afterwards. Can this be used during other cutscenes? example, link
  • Clip through Walls: While a reaction animation plays, the player has no hitbox (allowing above cutscene movement as well). This can be used to clip through some geometry. No application was found although in the prologue the Locker room is very close to the start of the game, protected by a dead plane. Example, link
  • Shadow Aaron can get stuck at the bottom of the stairs and die all of a sudden. See the Example, link, . The best movement to get this to occur currently found is: Wait 1 seconds. Run to the bottom of the left stairs Walk up them for 1 second then run Wait till Aaron alligns with the center hole, then walk to the right (to the same spot as the video shows).

Other route possibilities

  • At the start of the Prologue, walk forward, face backwards and Clip through the table (VERY difficult)
  • After acquiring the shrewdriver, turn on the power without knifing the Shambler (high risk - low reward)
  • After picking up the Trusty axe, squize between plant box and table. Walk straight up the plant box and make a sudden turn to pass the obstacle. (inconsistent = risky)
  • After defeating keycard Siren, you can save quite to skip Locker room, but loading screen is long because locker room was just loaded. Also the keycard gate closes again.
  • Optimization possible to knife Shambler and Spitter in large Lab area with gas mask.
  • If Butcher follows after Dr. Branden's lab, Save quite at boiler room (lower risk)
  • Near bodypile on way to the Marina, dodge Bouncer and Butcher instead of knifing (high risk)
  • ! Low risk routing for after Grappling hook climb is a needed route upgrade Currently grappling hook climb can be a run killer.
  • Leave Butcher in Staff office alive and just dodge him until elevator comes up (higher risk and anoying)
  • Instead of taking rope down to warehouse floor, use elevator (alerts zombies, faster?)
  • Use the dodge leap, push, execute move to kill Linda at Helipad (slower but safer. More ammo for Cliff)
  • After being teleported into the meat wardrobe: Dodge all zombies instead of knifing the siren. (VERY high risk, low reward) ! potential run killer
  • After taking left door in Cliff's mind, run towards orb and shoot from close range. Butchers often get stuck on inclined path. (higher risk)
  • During Kimball phase, stay on lower platform
