Ehrgeiz: BNQ Normal Any% Guide

Hey guys, Santouryu3 here! I'll be sharing my personal experience notes for Ehrgeiz: BNQ Normal Any% (PSX/PS2). I've made three separate videos on how the run goes such as what you need, do, and beat it. You start the game on normal mode while mashing start or x button to skip dialogue text. Normally if there's a Speedrun race, everyone should deposit coins to the motel/banker npc to save before the Dragon Wing glitch in a gentlemen's agreement. Thus, there isn't one at the moment, so we'll be skipping that.

Normal mode:

The first thing you need to do is find a weapon on floor 7 since we need it to kill the Kraken on floor 13. There's a small chance a weapon could spawn in floor 7 in the first and/or second room and 13 in the second room, but it's super rare to get that insane RNG luck. The pickaxe is the best starting weapon; however, you need a bomb to blow up a secret hallway. You have a chance to blow up a secret boss room which could easily reset the room unless it has a weapon lying there as well. After you found your suitable weapon, repair it if its not used, buy one meat, one onion or garlic, and the rest pumpkins, and go to merchant to sell dagger, shield, and gear found in floor 7 and buy blue potions and one red potion which is optional for the merchant NPC in a safety run. Before you enter the Kraken room, you first need to eat the meat and onion or garlic. Then, you move to the right corner and jump attack. The Kraken has three attacks: Four tentacle slam which only hits where you came from the entrance, uppercut, and the sidesweep tentacle which you need to lookout on its inner tentacles. The uppercut attack only hits if you move d-pad up which you shouldn't do unless you have a sword weapon found. The hitbox of it isn't as bad as the T-Rex and the Dragon Wing glitch mini-size which I'll discuss that at the end. After the Kraken is beaten, go grab the two X-Potions and find next stairs. If you do come across the Wyvern, do kill it for the Dragon Wing to drop. Unless you're unable to do so, just move on to floor 14 and 15 since the deformed Chocobo and reptiles have a chance to drop them as well in floor 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20, but floor 15 is the best cause the Lizardmen are super passive and easy to farm off of it. Also, be on the lookout for weapons like Golden and Diamond Spears both Koji and Clair can use them; however, Clair cannot use Platinum and Crystal Spears since she is into jewelry weapons like gold and diamonds. Spears is the best for Clair with the Dragon Wing glitch later on. If you are unable to find a weapon for Koji, the pickaxe is still doable as long as its fully repaired from the fairy fountain. Any weapon for Koji is useful such as Hunger Axe even though its twice the consumption rate as Crystal and Diamond Axes, but it's useful with Koji dying twice from the cutscene and starved to death as his HP reaches 0. It saves five seconds if timed correctly depending the timing that is. Crystal Spear comes second follow by one handed axe and spear for both characters. The Dragon Wing glitch is the most heavily reset of the run. Medium-sized Koji and Clair is 100% doable, small-sized Koji and Clair is somewhat doable, and tiny-sized Koji and Clair is a dead run since the hitbox reduction of both characters makes this run harder than it looks. You won't be able hit as the enemies can hit you... For Clair's choice of weapons, I highly recommend the one-handed Golden/Diamond Spear follow by one-handed Golden/Francisca Axe follow by Golden/Platinum/Diamond/Crystal/Fairy Tail/Princess Guard Rods. Sword weapons are troublesome in a run. Fist weapons are a no even with 4 durability depending if she can hit that is...
