The German version of the game is faster for speedrunning for a few reasons:

• Semper Fi: The "you like that, you piece of shit" bit doesn't happen and the door doesn't open, so you can save a tiny amount of time by taking a more direct line, instead of having to move out of the way of the Japanese guy.

• Their Land, Their Blood: The opening cutscene is removed, and you gain control outside the building.

• Eviction: The Nazi begging for mercy isn't there, so your comrades will follow you sooner, I guess? Also, the Nazis at the entrance to the subway aren't there, so you save a very small amount of time not having to kill them.

The biggest difference is the time save in Their Land, Their Blood. Overall, these add up to around 1m30s of free timesaves.

Also, it's worth noting that Nazi Zombies is completely removed, so make a backup of the game if you like to play it, so you can just rename the installation folder to swap between the English and German versions without re-downloading multiple gigabytes. (I don't know if custom zombies maps work with the German version.)

The first step is to right-click the game in your Steam library and open the properties window.

Navigate to the language tab, and select "Deutsch (German)" in the drop-down list. Then close the window.

Steam will now start automatically downloading an update around 2.5 GiB in size. Once this update has finished, you can launch the game and it'll be in German.
