00 Missions + Minigames Guide

Silver Worlds speedruning strats: To do

Minigames: 

- AllMinigames: Needs to be played in order. The minigames need to be played in order, so that rules out RNG manipulation, unless you can play several minigames perfectly in set seeds all the way to Vector's. Even if you cannot, the first few minigames can probably be manipped until Tails.

- Luigi + Amy: It's just RNG. Finding a God Seed is nightmarish.  The same Boo always has the key.

- Tails + Vector + Daisy: It's just RNG. every seed is a God Seed if you memorize.

If you want to play without RNG, Vector has some cool strats. You'd have to learn how do all the questions begin, let them run a few words, then make a wild guess.

Tails minigame is fun to play manipless. What kind of supernatural image recognition skill does a human need to have to fucking reach 6 seconds???? Either way, memorize the shapes and differences before playing so that you can rule them out faster

- Donkey Kong + Waluigi: It's RNG and skill. You will find more detailed knowledge on Waluigi under Nakano Xanter's record (I commented a few strategies there). DK has ice and bombs falling, but they are not purely random. There are patterns, if you see Ice falling in a certain way, you can predict bombs afterwards, or bananas. They seem like 2 separate waves, thanks to a big delay until the banana falls, but they are really not: it's 1 long pattern. You'd have to pay attention and write it down, then memorize.

RNG Manipulation can be used, but finding a pattern is not that easy for DK. For Waluigi it's probably easier. 

- Knuckles: You play the Knuckles minigame? Okay, tell me every button that Knuckles needs to press in order. RNG manips for Knuckles would be like that. 

Besides fast reaction, you need to fast tap very fast as well.

- Peach: Turn on a fan and place your DS under it. You should achieve a WR after 40 minutes.

If you are running All minigames: After the wind stops blowing, the thwomp will not blink for a while, most times anyways. 

SIMP Thwomp. 

- Yoshi: It's the same every Time.

- Blaze + Shadow: You don't need to RNG manip, but you could. It's probably slower.

- Silver + Luigi: Can reach 0.999 seconds

- Wario: It's unclear whether he can reach 0.999 seconds

- Mario + Sonic: can go suck it, missed opportunity on the developers

- Big the cat's minigame: would make every Sonic fan wet their male-panties if it existed

- Metal Sonic, Bowsy, Eggman and Bowser: have no minigames



How to RNG manip: Set the clock to a minute before the ideal time. Go to the "Select game" screen. Wait for the clock to show a new minute on your screen. Press the game and lose no time reaching the minigame screen.

My DS' clock fades and fades back every time 1 second passes. That makes it easier to test RNG seeds, because you know what second are you playing on. Most Nintendo's don't do that.

GOD SEED FINDING:

To find a God Seed for 1 minigame, you'd need to check out every possible second within an hour. Sometimes more. For Amy and Luigi, you'd need to download several emulators (my biased choice is Bizhawk, Desmume can glitch the speed), load a Save File with the minigames unlocked, set the emu speed very high, open TAS Studio and loop some inputs (a TAS will: open the game, select the minigame, wait for the pattern to show up, then press power-on the console inside the emu. Loop the inputs). You'd need to run several emulators at once, but the more emulators are opened, the more they lag and slow down. So you might need several PCs. Then you'd need to delay every TAS a few seconds so that they can land on different seeds and let the emus run for hours. 

You'd have to manually check if the emu landed on the right patterns. Or, if you know how to create an image- recognition lua or program, you could let it run unsupervised.

Luigi needs to be slightly to the right before the batteries fall, otherwise he will never reach the Boo before 1 second passes. The God battery Pattern is for all of them to be somewhere before the Boo and a bit to the right of Luigi's starting position.

Amy's pattern is not what you would expect. If you press A on the first frame possible every frame, you will realize that, even if all of the right totem symbols align, you won't win. The last totem piece will spin 1 time, even if the 3 pieces before it were to be hit frame perfectly. So, the last totem face needs to be off by 1 symbol.

Each perfect seed might take 5+ hours to find even with several PCs and emulators opened. I made the math for Amy, you have a chance of 1,25 times out of 5 thousand seeds for finding the God Seed .

Unless you owe 1 billion PCs you'd need to use some library's or school's PCs. Even if you got around to do that, manually checking it out is a nightmare. So you either know how to write code, I guess, or the seeds won't be found



This aplies to ILs like Extreme Snowboarding or Ski Cross Racing. Even Race, on Beijing2008. But you'd need to roll a Star every item block there is. Ski Cross Racing is within reason, Extreme Snowboarding has 2 turns and several item boxes.

A God Seed for normal Snowboarding would enable you to bounce from 3 NPCs at the start of the race.

Don't forget that this game has cheats and can be TASed, so as long as someone has a micro SD (a pirate card), faking a record in the leaderboards will be possible. If someone suddenly uploads a record of 00:03.000 seconds in Alpine Skiing don't panick, you are not that bad at the game, it was just a cheat.

A guide for Nordic Combined, the easiest category right now!

Nordic is the least competitive category right now and achieving a world record there is free game.

But most people don't understand the hill glitch, which is the glitch I used a few days ago to achieve a 10:55.696

Practicing the hill glitch is easy: You just need to replay the Nordic mission on Frostown that skips the Ski Jumping autoscroller. You charge 2 Sprints on the first green pannel, and you are good to go!

The hill glitch is done by moving upwards, then pressing Down and not releasing the button. It's pretty easy, I was pleasantly surprised. It can only be done on hills on the 4th lane.

Speed is maxxed after Sprinting and after B on a downhill. After 4-6 seconds the speed decreases, you have to press A to prevent Amy from going too slow.

I can't mash the button A fast enough, so that's been my downfall. I bet I can reach 10:53

The wimmfi rankings claim a 10:50.684, so that's as far as you can reach without using strategies from the TAS. 



All Events + WinAllEvents Guide

General Advice: Set the difficulty before starting the speedrun in every event that needs so. You go through the Menus faster with the stylus/finger.

OLYMPIC EVENTS

Alpine Skiing: It's better if you just go around the fences without taking them. It's more consistent and you can get times similars to the current World Record in real time. The Time Losses are only from the ingame time, so this event is easy to do even if you have never ever played Alpine once.

Ski Jumping: Get the worst character and jump as low as possible. On the second jump you want to get a little bit further away, since you need to wait for the Points to show up and for your character to make a victory or losing dance. It's better if the 1st/2nd/4th position is showing up while your character is making the win-lose animation.

Moguls: You just wanna go fast. Choose a character that jumps low and runs fast. Interestingly, avoiding the bumps is faster than going in a straight line, so pick up the items.

Cross Country: You gotta train and become somewhat good. Select Hard difficulty, since you will be capable of building up a boost behind the NPCs.

Nordic Combined: You gotta train in Cross Country and become somewhat good.

Speed Skating: You don't need to be good for this one. Select Hard difficulty, since the NPCs take a while to finish the race and you'll have to wait for them. Depending on who you are up against, this event will take longer than normal, it's RNG. In a way, it doesn't matter if you go fast or not, you will have to wait for the NPC to finish in the end. You just can't lose.

Short Track: If you want to be a World Record Holder you need to be incredibly good and train a lot for this event, however for an AllEvents/ WinAllEvents being 3-4 seconds behind the WR is something that you can pull off with consistency, no matter how many times you crash against the walls or what you do. It's easy, just have consistency with the acceptable times that you want to achieve.

Figure Skating: I found a skip that I haven't used in my WinAllEvents run. As it turns out, you can skip the Musical notes part and still finish first. It's a 25 second TimeSave if you choose the 2nd song and pull off everything perfectly. Careful, you might want to play it save, you are skipping so much that it barely lets you win.

Snowboarding: You gotta improve. Become consistent. If you are a good player, you will always have an advantage of a few seconds over less skilled runners.

Bobsleigh: Don't crash. The TimeLoss is minimal so long you don't crash.
Skeleton: Don't crash. The TimeLoss is minimal so long you don't crash.

Hockey: Set the game to the shortest time and set the speed to fast. The values reset after restarting the game. // You gotta be smart about it, the event has a timer but it stops every time you score and every time someone uses an Ultimate move. A little before the game tells you that there are X seconds before the game ends, the players will change their behaviour and hiding behind your goal will not be effective anymore, you gotta run in circles or do something creative about it.

You can prevent the puck from scoring on your side by touching the goalee. Touch your goalee when the puck is touching the goalee. The puck will be stopped.

Curling: Set stones to 3 or 4 and the number of games to the lowest amount. Every time you restart the game, the stone-discs value resets. // A Strat I never used in WinAllEvents is throwing your discs to the river-canal next to you. I do that in AllEvents, but one could argue that it is a risky strat here. However, once you have a disc in the middle of the BullsEye, you can stop playing save: the Easy Difficulty AI is not very capable, and it will rarely displace your disc enough for you to lose. It's less likely. Also, as you can see in my AllEvents run, or in my AllOlympicEvents run, sometimes the AI hits your own discs and makes you win, even when you don't do anything. It happens more often than I expected, so it's a viable strat that offers a whole 1 minute of saved time overall. There are 2 games of Curling though, so don't abuse the trick, it's essentially RNG.

Biathlon: Select Hard Difficulty. This event is like Cross Country.

Luge: Don't crash, stay on the yellow line. You don't need to risk it, it's pretty easy.

DREAM EVENTS

OBSERVATION: In a AllDreamEvents run the only events that can save time significantly are: Ski Cross Racing, Intense Short Track, and Extreme Snowboarding. Having mastered any of these 3 is key to pushing the record down. The hardest being Extreme Snowboarding, and the easiest being Intense Short Track (so easy in fact, that I got the world record just to be capable of pushing my AllDreamEvents record lower). Ski Cross Racing is the first event of them all, so resetting instantly is a major advantage. The harder task is improving in Extreme Snowboarding, and then getting lucky during your run, since it is an event full of RNG. This one is not like Ski Cross Racing, because it's twice as long and you cannot reset an restart your run if you feel like it. Beware Hockey, it can cost you time.

Ski Cross Racing: It has some RNG, but as long as you don't fall from the course you can get acceptable times (1-4 seconds behind the WR). You need to familiarize with it first, it's easy to be 10 seconds behind, so lower your PB to the second (not milisecond) where the Wixirix record is at.

Rocket Ski Jumping: It's better if you collect the rings and crash against an iceberg. You are going really slow when you fall down.

Downhill: Skip the Shield, kill yourself

Half Pipe Deluxe: easiest thing. JenteJ has very smartly pointed out that Tails and Peach allow you to drift faster. Go straight to the finish, don't jump.

Intense Short Track: You gotta improve your times. It's easy to become better at this event, and it will save you a lot. I was losing 10-15 seconds always, after getting the WR, I consistently got times 2-3 seconds behind my WR.

Ultimate Figure Skating: Timer based event. You gotta wait it out // JenteJ has pointed out that the Sonic song finishes 2 seconds earlier than the other 2.

Extreme Snowboarding: The toughest of them all. You have to improve and pray for good RNG.

OBSERVATION: It is after this point that an AllEvents run essentially becomes a long wait for the events to finish. All of the events forward require you to wait them out, since they involve timers. That's why an AllDreamEvents run could easily become optimized by a good runner.

Blazing Bobsleigh: for the AllEvents run this event is easy: you just crash as fast as possible. No skill, no nothing. The same goes for AllDreamEvents.

For the WinAllEvents though, this becomes an RNG challenge. In the best case scenario, all of the other NPCs will have crashed and they will die. Once they are all out, you can crash your own bobsleigh and win without reaching the finish line. No one has strategized too much about that, but you could follow the bobsleighs up close and crash against the remaining contenders, to force them to lose. It also depends on the RNG: different couples have different lifes and it will take more hits for them to crash. That's why the AllEvents run uses Waluigi and Eggman, they are really weak. Beware, inverting the order of the characters can grant them more life, for some reason. Remember that you can hit your opponents (and kill yourself) with the Dash Attack, which is performed by pressing left and Y or right and A twice in a row. You can crash in 5.099 seconds, almost sub 5 suic1de! (I call it Emo%)

Dream Hockey: the same as Hockey, but the NPCs change behaviour twice: when the gate that gives you stuff is opened and when the game is about to finish. It's a tiny bit harder, but you can lose a lot of time here with the animations. Beware

You can prevent the puck from scoring on your side by touching the goalee. Touch your goalee when the puck is touching the goalee. The puck will be stopped.

Dream Bowling: the same as Curling, in WinAllEvents you can throw the discs to your side if you see that you are winning by a lot.

OVERALL NOTES: My AllEvents run was not fully optimized and can save a decent amount of time, but requires a certain mastery of lots of the events inside the game. A WinAllEvents run can save a lot of time, somewhere close to 2 minutes, if the strats of Curling, Curling Bowling and Figure Skating are successfully implemented in a clean run. An AllOlympicEvents run is about skill in several events with a mix of RNG in some others, but overall is less demanding than an AllEvents run. While an AllDreamEvents run revolves around optimizing a few very important events and avoiding time losses on Hockey, which makes it the easiest category.

Blazing Bobsleigh guide

At the start of the match, you should double press 'right + a' to initiate an attack THEN drift leftwards to fill up the gauge while pressing 'r' to go slightly faster. You should attack once leftwards at the first turn and once right wards on the next. You THEN should attack twice (once early and delayed until next sharp turn) and press 'r' while crashing into the snowman to collect the crystal.

You should have 'r' turned on while precisely attacking and driving left and right and turned off when hitting a snowman (with a crystal behind) 

Go to the snowman path for the first two times and go to the heart path for the last one.

Cross-Country

Since Cross-Country is the main thing I speedrun, I started to make a guide for it.

First the concepts I am going talk about.
1. Character choice
2. The start
3. Boosts
4. Hills
5. Different routes
6. Important things to DO and NOT to do

1. Character choice
The character you should choose is Amy.
Amy has a perfect combination of stamina, speed and a long boost.

2. The start
Set the CPU's to hard. The opponent of COM 1 has to be Sonic, Shadow or Metal Sonic. They are the fastest characters in the game. Right when the start begins wait until it says "2". Then hold the A button just after COM 1 charges. The best start needs to have a fast charge of COM 1. Then when it says "GO", go immediately behind COM 1. You need to be right behind COM 1 for the fastest start. If you are a bit further behind COM 1 but still see him on the screen, then just continue going behind him. If you are just behind him then go a bit down on the charge pannels without mashing. Go right behind COM 1 after that without barely hitting him.* Just experiment how long you have to be offroad.

*This is the fastest way of the start. I always skip if I don't manage to get this.

3. Boosts
When you boost your character you can take the advantage to go offroad some times. However dont do this too much in the same boost. Otherwise you will lose speed afterwards.

4. Hills
Hills are probably the most important things in cross-country. You can get insanely speed from them. Do always hold B down to the end of the hill. Do not release it earlier. For the most hills it is important to activate the boost as early as possible before the hill. At some hills it feels weird to do that, but it saves several seconds. As you can see in my video after the second hill I already boost when I go down on the hill. This saves about 5 seconds. Also the start boost has to be as early as possible. Try to boost already before you have the 3 boosts at once. And while you boost try to get the last boost in the slipstream. Don't forget to stay on the white line.

5. Different routes
There are curently 3 different routes
- Standard route
- Extra hill route
- Fast lap 1 ending route

In my opinion, the standard route is the best route. I used that route in my 10:46.024 WR. The extra hill route is used by several top players but is very hard to do right. The fast lap 1 ending route has potential. If you boost later on the ending of lap 1 (and just go down to hit the boost chargers) you will do the section afterwards with more speed. However you will most likely run out of stamina at the end before the last hill. If you do it right your ending of lap 1 will always be fast.

6. Important things to DO and NOT to do
To DO:
Go down as late as possible in the part before the 2 hills.
Try to be as much as possible on the white lines.
Spam the X-button at then part with the two hills and at the end.
Spam the A-button when you're offroad.

NOT to do:
Never go offroad unneccesary.
Dont boost too early at some parts, time your boosts perfectly.
Never mash when you are on a hill. Always finish the hill.

With all this knowledgde and with practise you should be able to get a sub 11. Dont be mad if you can't get a sub 10:50. That's another level.

When I got my 39.047 I felt I had to start writing a guide about this. But the more I wrote and talked about strats in this event with The_Challenger99, the more I realized I just did things. This is what I wrote so far, and contains all strats discussed with The_Challenger99. I really don't know what helps. I do not feel motivated to finish the gate by gate part mostly because it is all based on things that are not proven. I still want to get sub 39 as first person so this is not the end of playing Alpine for me

Short Track

Short Track is a great event, it requires skill and very precise movements.

L.R already made a small guide about this event. I will go deeper in this event to help you getting closer to a sub 35.

My pb (2nd WW) is 34.459 (Sonic).

1. Character choice

1.1 Which character to use?
Here it's going to be complicated. There are several charaters you can use.

Tails: good turning
Sonic: fast
Wario: average

Sonic is the option with the most risk but highest reward. You can only use him if you know how to play him.

Tails is a safe option but you can't really improve after you get to the 34.8 range.

Wario is very average, I tested him a lot. You can make turns very nicely, his boost are decent. But because of his lack of speed he can't really compete at the actual top.

So when your goals are just sub 35 I would actually recommend Tails. Sonic is much harder to play.

2. The start
99% of the runs fail at the start.
The start is INSANELY important!

2.1 Startboost
The startboost isn't actually necessary. Yeah you read that right. I haven't tested it too much but you can get 8.1 splits (best split possible) without using the start boost. HOWEVER: Using the start boost is not a problem. I used the start boost in my pb, but feel free to test it.

2.2 First turn
The first turn is important. Try to mash L & R the first few tenths of a second (like L, R, L, R, not much). Then hold L ASAP, try to begin mashing the R button when you see the green smoke (I call it smoke). Don't mash before that, you will crash into the wall. Dont mash too fast, just DONT. You have to get as close to the wall as possible on the straight part after the first turn. You can have little pauses between the mashing of the R button, so you will come out perfectly. You can experiment with this.

3. What to do in a turn?

3.1 Turn with L ASAP
Begin with holding L ASAP.
Always begin mashing R not on the moment you hold the L button but a little later, in this way you take the turn much sharper. In my perfect runs I did every turn from the outside of the straight parts perfectly to the inside of the turn to come out on the outside of the straight part again

3.2 End of the turn
You can use the strat again to have some pauses between your R mashing in the turn. HOWEVER: At the end of the turn you need to mash the R button. Try to keep holding L and mashing R at the first little part of the straight part. When you do this you will keep your speed and won't slowdown randomly.

4. The straight parts

4.1 After the turn
When you did your turn corectly, you have to do the straight part. After you ended the turn, try to mash R while holding L a bit longer than the turn.

4.2 The straight part
You will need to do a VERY short amount of mashing L & R. The best is to do this as fast as possible.
I often just do L, R, L, R insanely fast, but L, R, L, R, L, R* is also fine so long you can do it fast enough.

*Dont know if begining mashing with the R button instead of the L button helps, but you can give it a try since you already mash R in the turn, I will experiment with this.

4.3 Focus on the next turn
When you did your mashing at the straight part you have to do your next turn again. Remember that you need to hold L ASAP, but too soon actually, I found out, makes you lose a ton of speed. Because you wil actually not turn to the lelft right away and because of you don't mash at that time you will lose that speed. So you can tell there are precise timings.

Then repeat again what I told you from 'What to do in a turn' (step 3).

5. The ending boost

5.1 When to boost?
Don't use the ending boost before the last turn. I recommend to boost exactly at the moment that your speed in the last turn will decrease, in that way you doesn't lose that much speed that you normally lose in a turn. Using the boost too early can result in a wall crash. Using it too late can lose time. Try to use it on the perfect moment so that you can cut the corner perfectly.

5.2 What to do in a boost?
First hold L just as you normally do in a turn, while mashing R a bit later. Just what I told you before. Just when you are about to do your boost: Hold the R button. You will perform your boost. Try to go back to mashing R as FAST AS POSSIBLE. This will give you the last amount of speed you need and will protect you from crashing into the wall at the final moment.

This is the last thing you do before you cross the finishline.

6. CPU's

6.1 How to avoid?
Basicly, don't.
Never, ever try to avoid a CPU. Focus on your own run, ignore the CPU's. You will probably crash a lot into them but you just need a small amount of luck that you will go perfectly around them.*

*Unless you do point 7.

6.2 Which difficulty?
Use the normal difficulty, I tested it out and it's the safest, you won't bump into the CPU's that often.*

*Unless you do point 7.

Easy: Gives you an easy and safe start. HOWEVER: You will lap the CPU's TWICE in a run (second time is at the end, will come to that later). So not worth the risk.

Normal: Gives you a decent start (that means it's pretty safe and you won't bump into other chracters most of the times). You will lap the CPU's only ONCE.

Hard: Your start is not as safe as on the other difficulties but you only lap the CPU once. However this is on the end and can be pretty annoying. However in point 7 I am going to talk about a strat that can be used when you can't safe any other possible frame anymore.

7. CPU insane boost glitch
And yes ofcourse, even in this event there's a glitch.

7.1 What glitch?
When you bump against an enemy, you will bounce in the other direction very fast. However when you do this mid run, it loses too mich time, because it gets a while to get controll over your character again. So it is possible to do this at the end, because the part after the end doesn't matter, because you already crossed the finishline.

Adding on that: The boost is even bigger at the moment you do the ending boost.

7.2 How to perform?
You need to get hit from behind so that you move insanely fast to the finish line. We all know that most CPU's dont use the inside of a turn, especially not when it's the end of the turn. However, sometimes the CPU comes from the back of the turn (because they didn't turn very well) in a straight line EXACTLY in the line of the ending of your final turn. If you boost and try to get right in front of him while just taking your sharp turn you can be able to achieve this insane time save.

7.3 CPU's
This trick might look one in a thousand, but you can make the chance of succeeding bigger by skipping until you get Bowser (for example) as opponent (don't worry, when you restart your run the opponents won't change, it will change when you do other things than restarting a run).

You can also make your chance bigger by selecting the difficulty to hard. You won't get a CPU in front of you until the last turn (if they don't do stupid things).

Note: Only try to do this glitch when you are about sub 34.5. When you aren't for example sub 35 yet don't panic when you see this, you need to focus on other important things first.

7.4 Time save
This strat can save in the best perfect possible way 0.5 seconds. When you perform a 34.4 run and use the ending boost perfectly you can in theory get a sub 34. I got the second best (known) time. First is DU with a time of 34.130. You can see that he probably used the glitch at the end. He did that also pretty decent. He saved like 0.350 seconds over his second best (a 34.48x).

Note: There's a guy named 'Super' that uploaded a 34.0 to wiimmfi. This probably is a TAS as he has some times on wiimmfi that are just frame perfect. And with the fact that you can upload TAS times to the game. And we haven't recieved any proof yet. We will never be sure, but at least we know that his (TAS) run got a 34.0 and we know that at least a 34.0 is possible (it was also done with sonic).

Overall notes
Short Track mainly depends on:
- Getting a good start consistantly.
- Good turning.
- Knowing how to turn and how to change or pause in your mashing in a turn.
- Getting the perfect timings with: When to hold L, how long to mash L & R and when to do the ending boost.

I am trying to improve my 34.459 too and try to get the first recorded succesful CPU boost. I may have some updates soon.

This should definitely help you to get a sub 35 AT LEAST.

Skating Events Advice

Here is some helpful advice for the skating events in the game if you plan to run any of them.

Speed Skating 500m - To be near the top, you should be able to mash L and R really quickly. Keeping up a good rhythm is also really important. Ignore the CPU in the opposite lane, as it can't affect your run. Turns are done automatically in this event, so you don't need to worry too much about that. You are able to dash up to two times depending on how fast you are out of the corners, as well as a final dash on the last straight, so be ready to react fast when the game tells you to dash.

Short Track 500m - This track has shorter straights, is narrower, and isn't as reliant on speed. The most important part I think is being able to get the best exits from cornering. Go as wide as possible in a turn, without hitting the wall, then turn as tightly as possible, although going too tight is actually slower, as you would hit an invisible barrier on the inside of the track. You are given the ability to dash on the final lap, however, don't use it until the last turn. You may also have to hope on a little bit of RNG, as if you are unfortunate, the CPUs might get in your way and slow you down.

Intense Short Track - Mashing speed and good rhythm are probably the most important parts of this one. Tight turning is again important however. Here you are given a special dash. You are limited to how many times you can do this by a heart depletion, but there's heart refills throughout the track. The CPUs can create bottomless pits near the end of the course, however you should be able to easily dodge them. There's also a massive hole near the start, which is covered off on the first lap, but you may need to change it's pattern on the second lap by going over a switch.

Snowboard Tips and Tricks

I am aware that StickyJoe19 has already done another guide for this, but that one is pretty outdated, and the record has been significantly improved since then.

Here's what you should do for the best results:

-> In the character selection, choose Peach as your character, as, being a skill type, she has a jumping and technical advantage. (Silver might also be a good alternative.)

-> When you drift you'll get a speed boost. You'll want to keep that momentum going for as long as you can, so as soon as you do a drift quickly get into another one, and try to stay as straight as you can while doing so. When you're on a straight path you'll have just enough room to zig-zag with your drifts. This is why I choose Peach, as her drift builds up extremely quickly.

-> If you drift before a ramp you will go further than usual.

-> When you trick off a ramp you'll get a boost, but if you press B as you land, you'll get even more speed, indicated by a small green circle on the ground. This is especially important at the 3 ramps near the end.

-> Try not to go wide in any corners. You can go wider in the entrance of a turn to get better exits, and be faster, but don't go too far and hit the fences on the side.

-> This strat can save up to half a second, but makes the run quite a bit harder. When selecting the difficulty, choose the hard difficulty. This means the AI will get better starts. What this does is it can give you an opportunity to bump off an opponent when in front of them, which can bounce you further ahead if done correctly. On the other difficulties, they usually don't get a good enough start for this to be possible. Most of the time you'll get a bad pattern where the CPUs will come across and into your path, resulting in a reset. A good pattern however has the potential to save a few tenths of a second. 
Even with a good CPU pattern, getting the bounce is quite precise. Too early, and you won't get too much of an advantage, and too late, you'll miss the opponent completely and likely slide into a fence, which could cause a reset.

-> There is a trick you can do to take the three jumps even faster than usual but it is extremely precise, and even I can't get it consistently. From the first jump, if you take it just right, then you'll go slightly further than normal, you'll know if you got it or not. If from the first jump you land directly on the Orange part of the second jump, the momentum will carry over into that jump as well as the third, signalling that you got the trick, if not, you'll land just before it and be a little slower overall. If you get it, you'll save a few tenths of a second.

Hopefully with these strategies, you should be able to easily get under 50 seconds within a few attempts.


While I'm on the topic of Snowboard, I might as well throw in Extreme Snowboarding as well, since no one's done a guide for that event.

-> You might think the character here would be the same as normal Snowboard, but that's not the case here. Instead, I recommend picking Bowser, as although his drift takes longer to build up, he is the fastest when going long distances. Also, Bowser is better than Peach at doing an exploit which will be mentioned later.

-> When tricking off of ramps do 1 backflip/frontflip and 1 spin. This combo fills up the "trick gauge" the quickest when not boosting, but when boosting, just do backflips/frontflips.

-> This event is heavily dependent on RNG. Items wise, you will want to hope for as many Barriers or, even better, Stars as possible. If you get a Boo or Bomb, discard it immediately as it would be useless to you. Use a Barrier item immediately for protection. If you get a Star, I'd recommend holding onto it until you see an attack heading your way. Through my testing, you can't get a Spiny Shell, Red Shell or Chaos Emerald in first place. Once you get in the lead, Bombs will be of little concern to you. Your main worries will be Shells, Boos, and Chaos Emeralds. You'll want to hope for as little of these as possible, as those will be pretty big hindrances to the run, potentially making you lose several seconds through no fault of your own.

(Boos will drain the trick gauge, resulting in you not being able to use as much, as well as stealing an item if you are holding one, while Shells and Chaos Emeralds will slow you down. The effects of Shells/Chaos Emeralds can be prevented by using a Barrier/Star, Boos can only be stopped by a Star.)

-> This is what I was referring to earlier. The first place where you can do this is at the split with the big jump. Take the right path. Aim for inbetween the middle cone and the cone second from left, and as you're about to hit them, use your boost and go as far left as you can. This will give you the optimal speed and position to boost into the rail on your left. 

The second can be done about half way through the course where there is a split in the road with a chain chomp in the middle. Go left here and get past some enemies. Then, as the rail on the right ends, boost into it and you will be zipped forward quicker than usual, which could save several seconds per lap if done perfectly.

Not necessarily a tip here, but I noticed that if Boo steals from you as you're getting an item from the roulette, it will steal the last item that appeared, rather than whatever you were going to get. (Say you were going to get a Barrier, and a Boo is used. If the last item you saw in the roulette was a Spiny Shell, it will actually steal the Spiny Shell, not the Barrier item.)

You should hopefully be getting times under 2:40 by using these. And that concludes my guide.

Snowboarding

For the snowboarding you want to take the corners with as little space between you and the walls as possible. Also add in the fact your trying to get the most boosts you can out of every turn and you've got yourself a really good time. A little trick you can use is on the striaghts pick tails and quicly move from side to side skidding, getting boosts all the time. also boosting right before a jump gives huge speed and distance, experimate with this for every jump, see what works.

This guide explains how to beat the infamous staff ghost and how to achieve sub29.

Previously, I thought that this competition was best done with mash (in theory, mash is best), but I realized that it is best to keep pressing alternately.

1. Character

Yoshi

I use Yoshi because of his good acceleration and speed.

2. Play Style

I would recommend playing in ghost mode and Because you will see where you could have saved yourself some time!

There are various ways

・Do it while holding the DS

・Do it while standing the DS

I think most people do it in these two ways.

Here is how I do it

Place the DS face down in the Switch case.

As long as you can place the DS, it doesn't have to be a Switch case.

This method makes it easy to press alternately, but there is a fatal problem. You can't see the screen.

So when you're running, decide whether to turn by listening to the character's voice.

It is also recommended to listen to the sound effects when sliding on ice to get a sense of the timing of your turns.

3. How to do it

There are two main ways

- Mash

- Press alternately to the rhythm

I think most people do it with mash

In theory, mashing is indeed faster. But pressing the buttons alternately is very difficult.

So I recommend the normal alternating press.

4. Strategy

Just keep pressing the RL buttons alternately

According to the TAS creators, if you alternate quickly enough, you don't need a boost after the curve - it's the final boost that matters.

・Curve 1

First, just keep pressing the buttons alternately until you reach the curve.

As soon as you hear Yoshi's voice when you reach the curve, press L and mash R.

When you hear the sound, press the RL buttons at the same time, and immediately keep pressing the RL buttons alternately.

・Curve 2

As with Curve 1, as soon as you hear Yoshi's voice, press and hold the L button and press the R button repeatedly.

You don't need to activate the boost here.

I think it would save you time if you activated it, but for some reason if you activate the boost here, you lose time, and conversely, not activating it saves you time.

Just keep pressing the buttons alternately until the last boost. Hold the buttons alternately for about a second, then press RL and the boost will activate and you'll reach the finish line.

The boost here will take practice.

・Glitch

There is a fatal glitch in this event.

If you hold down the L button and mash the R button, it will be faster than pressing it alternately.

However, this glitch only applies to TAS.

At first I tried pressing the buttons alternately as a joke and was able to beat my record, so I realized that trying this method was a good idea after that.

If you use this method, I think you'll be able to beat the staff ghost and achieve a sub29 time.

# Supersonic Downhill Guide - L.R



You want to get better at this event? Just follow the guide and you could be crushing your PB within only a dozen attempts.



Before I begin, I'm going to explain a trick which was found by myself a few years ago, which involves going through a brick. Basically, to perform the brick skip, you need to be going an absurd amount of speed, at least 300kmh. There is a chance that on one frame, you are behind the brick, and on the next, you're past it. The game doesn't detect any collision between you and the brick, so you get past without slowing down. This is much faster than jumping over, since jumping slows you down. The downside though is that this can also be applied to mushrooms, where you pass through them without picking them up. If you're going for a really low time, prepare to lose a lot of runs to this.





First things first: Character selection. I've experimented with most of the roster to find the most optimal characters to play with, and I've narrowed it down to three; Bowser, Sonic, and Bowser Jr. The reasons being:



• It seems to be a common theme that Bowser is usually one of, if not the best character at some events, and this one is no exception. The downside to using Bowser is the fact that he has a large hitbox, making it harder to do brick skip, and I feel he has a slightly worse jump as well, making it harder to avoid bricks.



• Being an all-around character, Bowser Jr has average stats all around. But he also has a smaller hit box, which is great for this event, because his small hitbox could theoretically make it easier to pass through the bricks.



• Sonic is the middle ground when it comes to hitbox, smaller than Bowser, larger than Bowser Jr. He is the fastest character in the game. One of the best options specifically for playing this event.



COM difficulty and weather don't matter.







Now for the main event itself. Hold right on the d-pad/circle pad the entire time, this will ensure you remain at top speed (Though you can briefly hold left to jump higher when necessary). Pick up all the mushrooms, but don't use them yet. There are two blocks, jump over both. By the time you've cleared the second block, you should have 5 mushrooms. Here's where you use all of them. There are more mushrooms on the way down, use them too. By the time you arrive at the next block, you should've used around 7 or 8 mushrooms. You can get past even if you use a mushroom at the start, but increases the likelihood of not having one when attempting the brick skip.



There are three possible outcomes at this point. Depending on if you get lucky with the frames or not, this next bit could either be the making of an incredible run or a reset.



If you hit the block, then the game detected that the blocks and your hitbox overlapped, and thus you get slowed down drastically. If you're going for a really low time (<19.X), this will probably be a reset. This is the scenario you'll see the most.



If you get through the block, but no longer have any mushrooms left, then you can follow one of two instructions. Either slow down and scale down the mountain as normal, or with the speed you have, risk a leap of faith over this entire section, where you land just after the last block. I wouldn't do the latter, as it's really difficult to time, as jumping too early will slow you down a ton and won't get you over, and too late will likely cause you to hit a block.



If you get past the block and still have at least one mushroom, then you can still do either of the previous two things, but you also are able to go for a third, even trickier option. Think fast, as there is less than half a second between getting past the first block and then a second block appearing. 



With the mushroom you still have, you can try to go through a second block. If you pass through that one, there will be two more mushrooms after, one for each of the next two blocks. I have only been able to get past 3 blocks and jumping the last of the set, but I know that it is possible to go through all 4 blocks.



However way you get past here, there is a mushroom waiting for you, use it going down the big vertical slope. After this all there is left are a shield, a mushroom, and another block. Use the mushroom immediately, then jump over the final block as late as possible.

You can get below 20 seconds easily with this, and could score an 18 or even 17 second time if done optimally.
