Hello everyone,

I'd like to share some thoughts and tips to optimize your speedruns in this game. While this isn't an exhaustive guide, I hope these suggestions will be helpful.

Trading with NPCs

The NPCs offering boost exchanges for gems might seem useful, but they aren't necessary to finish the game. Since the offers are randomly generated, it's often more efficient to ignore them. Checkpoints, on the other hand, can be interesting, although I haven't explored them in depth yet.

Checkpoints

Most checkpoints should be avoided, but some are crucial for skipping large sections of the map. Breaking a checkpoint will respawn you at the beginning of the game, which can be strategic in certain situations.

Managing Coins

To respawn efficiently, it's important to have 0 coins on you. However, coins can also be used to tank damage, making your character invulnerable and allowing you to move quickly despite the presence of mobs. I recommend keeping just one coin, as when you're hit, coins scatter randomly and can be picked up even while invulnerable.

Strategies with Mobs

Most mobs can be avoided. I use some as markers to check my timing (for example, the first ladybug) and others to lose coins and speed up.

Pistol Reloading

Your character has a pistol with 3 bullets that reload by staying on a flat surface for 1 second. If you leave the surface before all bullets are reloaded, the reload timer resets.

Key Items

The game features 4 key items: double jump, lasso, bomb, and charged shot. The order I've listed them in corresponds, in my opinion, to the best route for obtaining them. You can switch the order of double jump and lasso without much consequence, but for the other items, it's best to follow this order, as the double jump is needed to get the bomb.

Miscellaneous Tips

  • Cacti: Cacti break even if they are not visible on the screen.
  • Speed: The game is linear in terms of speed: jumping and running are the same speed, there is no fastfall, and you can't adjust your jump height. Items with inertia, like the lasso and bomb, increase your speed as long as there are no collisions or braking. The charged shot has a similar effect but in reverse (with recoil, so it makes you move backward).

Ending the Game

To finish the game, simply talk to the cowboy at the beginning.

Collision Bug

Note that there is a rare collision bug that cancels certain collisions on the map when the character takes damage. This bug seems to occur consistently, but I haven't tried to figure out how to reproduce it.

Final Tip

To avoid a bug where a cactus remains present even after being destroyed, it's best to close and restart the game after each run.
