Wizard of Oz SNES Any% Route (Routed by Koffingrockz Original Route by JC583 Documentation by Koffingrockz)

Quick notes about the run

Jumping is faster than walking.
All characters have the same walking speed. Bricks are needed to complete boarders and tickets are needed to enter the emerald city at the end. There is elemental damage that can be inflicted to individual characters. For example, crows do massive damage to scarecrow and the sunflowers do no damage to scarecrow. A “buffer jump” is immediately jumping then pressing a direction. Avoid taking damage on the ground at all costs as there is only 1 frame lost when hit on the air compared to 10+ frames when hit on the ground. 1 Ups restore 4 health

YELLOW COUNTRY

Shy Village

Immediately walk a bit and then jump at the to get an ammo drop (3 Ammo) Immediately jump again and shoot ammo at the apex of your jump to hit a lemon (2 Ammo) When on the mushroom jump so you fall in between the platforms (Jump on the last quarter of the mushroom) Jump to collect another ammo drop (5 Ammo) Get the bone and spell out "YOU ARE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE" Get the ticket by walking and jumping to land on the mushroom Buffer jump to the right after landing on the mushroom Get the next brick with the branch jump (If done optimally you can take damage in mid air from the lemon, however if the lemon hits you on the ground and a jump input is buffered you are guaranteed to make the jump) (2) Jump and get the health Go in door underneath the health Go through the following sets go doors: Right, left, left, only, then get the ticket and health and exit. Damage boost through the chairs by jumping through them but jump and shoot through the last chair (4 ammo) Get 2 bricks after exiting (4) Get second ammo brick (7 ammo) Get brick on mushroom then shoe charge in midair. (5 bricks 5 shoe charges) Get a third ammo brick (10 ammo) Continue jumping and get another brick and jump according to avoid damage. (6)

Gamboge Gorge

Immediately jump and damage boost off the first vulture. Continue walking then jump after you walk past the second vulture Continue jumping and damage boost past the vulture that will dive at you. Continue jumping forward, you should avoid every cat (You want 4 health as there is health coming up) Jump a bit near the second ropes around each bridge to make it to the next platform without falling. Grab health. Shoot the next vulture after jumping from the next platform at the apex of your jump and jump over the cat. (9 ammo) Make an additional jump after jumping over the cat and shoot another block at the apex of your jump to kill the next cat (8 ammo) Continue jumping forward, when you are on the platform with the vulture use the right side of the short grey part of the platform as a cue for where to jump Continue jumping forward and the cats will not hit you Attempt a 1 frame jump near the vulture to clip through the ground. (If you fail press right at the correct time to barely get on the edge without getting hit and then kick the cat, if you do make it quickly turn right and kill the cat after grabbing ammo) Grab ammo, 2 bricks, and ticket. (8) (11 ammo) Jump up from spring and damage boost through the cat Kill the next two cactus cats from with another ammo shot in midair. (9 ammo) Get a brick on top of the platforms (9) Carefully jump to the end (Don't worry about dying on the last jump there are two platforms)

Maize Meadow

Mash jump until you make a jump that gets you really close to a sunflower. Shoot the sunflower that is going right and damage boost through the explosion while grabbing health and another brick if you mash jump you should make it through a crow without getting hit. (10 bricks, 8 ammo) Continue jumping damage boost through the crows Damage boost through a pumpkin and grab two bricks (12) Damage boost through the next pumpkin and shoot ammo at the apex of your jump to kill another crow. Appropriately take damage boosts (preferably mid air) to the end and concentrate on surviving, if you are low on health it is possible to avoid taking damage from the final sunflower, also note you can reach the exit with zero health so you can always damage boost from the final crow. Immediately jump to collect health without going to the higher platform and kill bird in 6 ammo blocks. (2 Ammo) Get Scarecrow

Saffron Fields

Make 2 jumps to the right Wait for a few frames and a bush should jump over you. Jump through what the corn throws at you and your invincibility frames allow you to go through a crow. Land on the right side of the top brown block near the pumpkin Damage boost through the pumpkin in a jump and land on the lower leaf that extends from a stalk. Walk to the right a little and jump as soon as possible to avoid the crow and damage boost onto the corn at the bottom and go into the door on the right. Jump to the short platform above the saw wheel while avoiding all damage Use one shoe charge to make the jump to the left. (4 shoe charges) Switch to Scarecrow Damage boost through a wheel and get the ticket and a brick. (13) Jump down after grabbing the ticket and try to get to the door as optimally as possible. Jump to the right and quickly buffer left then right to avoid taking damage on the ground from the bush. Damage boost through the bush on your next jump Damage boost through the corn to get through the pumpkin. Switch back to Dorothy right before the bush near the leaf and 2 crows. Use a shoe charge and hold it and you will collect a brick (15 bricks 3 shoe charges) Land on the first platform after collecting the brick near the health. Jump and collect the health and the brick next to it (16) Jump down to the next house and enter it Immediately jump without using a shoe charge and then jump again using a shoe charge and go to the right. (2 shoe charges) Go back left and use another shoe charge while grabbing a brick. (1 shoe charge 17 bricks) Jump to the right and grab the brick and the ticket (18 bricks) Jump twice to the right and land on a leaf. Use a shoe charge and land on a leaf Grab the shoe charge that is above you (5 shoe charges) Jump through the rest of the stage

Xanthin Farms

Jump to the first brick that you see (19) Jump to the platform next to the next brick Use a shoe charge to grab the next brick. Use the charge all the way and you should land on a moving leaf. (20 bricks 4 shoe charges) Use a shoe charge and land on the platform that is with a stand alone brick (21 bricks 3 shoe charges) Use a shoe charge and land on the platform with the next brick. (22 bricks 2 shoe charges) Use another shoe charge and land on the long leaf (1 shoe charge) Jump appropriately right to the end of the level

Lemon trees

Immediately jump and press shoot to kill the cat (1 Ammo) Jump again and kill the second cat the same way and grab a brick (23 bricks 0 ammo) Damage boost through the bird Jump to the right and grab a brick (24 bricks) Jump to the next bone Hold down and left, then go down right, up right, then down right to the end. This mini game does have RNG so you may lose. If you do you can go left and try again or reset. Buffer right and jump (hold during the cutscene) and you will grab the ticket and make your jump Jump and try to stay on top of the trees. Eventually you will reach a tree with a brick in it. Simply walk to the brick and you will grab it (25) Jump to the end of the level

Citron City

Immediately jump to the right and get on top of a door frame. Jump to the right and land on the higher platform. Climb up the right side of the screen, when you can’t climb up anymore jump to the left yellow brick-like platform. Jump to the left and always try to make jumps to stay up as high as you can. Climb up the thin platforms to the left side of the screen and grab the brick near these platforms (26) Grab the ammo at the end of the level on the platform second from the top (3 Ammo)

Yellow/Red Border

Jump appropriately to the right and use a full shoe charge near the gap with no bricks. (0 shoe charges) (There aren’t any gaps you can’t clear so a lot of time can be saved by playing boldly)

RED COUNTRY

North Fork

Immediately jump right then walk a bit and make a precise jump to the next platform Jump and damage boost onto the platform with the teeth Jump over the log onto the next platform Jump onto the next platform Make a precise jump onto the next platform with the teeth Walk to the edge of the platform and let the teeth hit you again then jump to the right onto a log Jump to the platform that is closest to you Jump onto the next log Jump on to the next platform Jump to the second then walk to the edge and attempt to jump over the teeth and onto the logs Jump to the next platform and then make another precise jump to the next platform When you are on the platform near the ticket make a prediction to whether you should briefly walk before jumping or continue mashing Grab the ticket Jump to the right, you will either land on the upper log or the platform. (Optimal times are easier on the log) Jump to the right, regardless of where you are you will land safely either on the platform or the lower log.) Jump to the right, you will land either on another log or a platform. Continue jumping to the right. Get on the second passing log (keep in mind how fast you went, if you landed on the platform earlier you should walk a bit to the right first before jumping) Jump to either the platform with the teeth or the log Jump to the right and complete the level

Poppy Fields

Immediately jump to the left and get shoe charges (5 shoe charges) Jump and land on the flower with the brick (1) When you are on the 4th flower to the right (Counting the shoe charge flower as zero) make a precise jump to the right to land on a leaf, you should grab 2 bricks when making this jump (3) Walk off the leaf Buffer jump to the right and land on the next leaf Jump to the right continually and grab the ticket Keep jumping and staying up high until you reach a flower with a brick near the end of it Walk and grab the brick and jump and use a shoe charge just as you grab it (4 shoe charges 4 bricks) Fully use your shoe charge When you land keep on jumping and you should grab a brick (5) For the remainder of the level keep jumping and staying up on top of the flowers Grab the one brick that is in your path as you jump through (6) Continue jumping until you reach the set of three flowers near the 2 bricks Grab the two bricks by jumping near the end of the second flower in the set of three (8) Switch back to Dorothy near the end

Cinnabar City

Immediately use a shoe charge and release once you’re just past the 4th chimney so that you land on the 5th chiminey. (3 shoe charges) Jump up the platform and attempt to make a precise jump straight from the large block that you land on after three jumps onto the top of the door. Jump to the right then jump back left to get on top of a roof. Use a shoe charge and jump left to get a ticket. After grabbing it head back right and land on the plank. (2 shoe charge) Continually jump to the right and grab the brick on top of the next roof. (9) Continue jumping right appropriately until after you cross a falling bridge. Jump on top of the white fence then straight up to a platform. Continually jump to the right and take the lower route as it is much faster Avoid landing on the singular platforms. Grab the brick and the ammo drop that is on the lower plank below the falling platforms (10 bricks, 6 ammo) Jump to the right, keep in mind how much damage fire does to each character, 2 to Dorothy 4 to Scarecrow) Jump appropriately to the right to reach the end of the level.

Carnelian Forest

(If you are Scarecrow there are two bees that are guaranteed to hit you in this stage, you can use ammo to kill them so you take 1 damage from the ammo explosion rather than 2 from the bees, if you are Dorothy don’t worry about damage) Jump right and avoid the branch. Jump on top of the tree stump to the right then jump to the right to land in a tree Jump right appropriately and stay at the top (while getting the five bricks) until you reach a ticket (15) Jump down and grab the ticket Jump appropriately right to the end and avoid all damage Use all of your ammo shots except for 1 to try to hit the train, after using your ammo switch to scarecrow (If you’re not him already) and finish him off. He takes 10 hits. Pray he jumps as few times as possible. (1 Ammo shot) Switch to Dorothy

Scarlet Marsh

Damage boost through the teeth then immediately jump again Jump once the red bird passes walk a bit and jump into the teeth then jump again and your invincibility will allow you to go through the teeth. Continue jumping right and shoot the vulture so you only take 1 damage from the explosion (0 ammo, from this point on the game gives so much ammo there is no reason to continue recording ammo) Get on the small mushroom to the right Use a shoe charge (1 shoe charge) Release the shoe charge near the vulture so you get hit falling down and land on the spring mushroom Land on the lower left branch and grab the two bricks and the ammo drop (17) Use a shoe charge and grab the brick and the new shoe charge (18 bricks 5 shoe charges) Land on the lower left branch in the second tree to the right Jump to the higher branch and grab the brick (19) Use another shoe charge (4 shoe charges) Grab the brick in the air (20) Land on the lower left branch of the second tree to the right Fully use a shoe charge and grab the 3 bricks in your way (3 shoe charges 23 bricks) Immediately switch to scarecrow after you fall Jump to the right and jump on the second spring mushroom that you pass by Hold right and grab a brick (24) After you land continue jumping then get on the spring Land on the right branch then grab the 1-up while landing on a platform to the left Jump to the right and grab a ticket

Rouge River, West Fork

Jump straight to the first door that is visible and enter it Climb right and jump appropriately until you can’t go farther Go left and jump on the purple platform then jump back right Continue climbing up and jump appropriately without entering any doors When you are near the crab that looks like he will hit you on the ground shoot him with an ammo shot When you are two blocks underneath the platform with the door and the teeth near it at the end it is much easier to make a jump to the left side. Climb the right side of the final purple blocks and grab all three of the bricks (27)

Crimson Caves

Immediately climb up to grab the ticket that is directly above you Jump right a few times and damage boost through the scorpion. (You can shoot this scorpion but all it really does is make you look cool) Continue jumping and you should grab either 3 or 4 bricks. You grab all 6 but it is pointless and kills the stage if you miss. (31) Jump on to the next platform Switch to Dorothy Use a shoe charge and land on the short platform to the right (2 shoe charges) Jump straight up to the small platform and use another shoe charge to land on the platform with the rolling enemy. (1 shoe charge) Climb up until you reach the spinning platforms Use a shoe charge to the left and land on the platform that was spinning (Memorize how this cycle works so you know if you should wait or not) (0 Shoe charges) Jump to the large spinning platform and try to get on it as soon as possible. Jump to the left and damage boost through the scorpion Grab the shoe charge before you leave the level (5 shoe charges)

Red/Blue Border

Jump appropriately to the end of the level, if you are bold you can save about a second by jumping across large gaps with platforms in the middle of them.

BLUE COUNTRY

Zaffer Forest

Immediately jump twice to the right to land on a spring Collect the three bricks as you go up and then land on the right side platform of the tree (3) (To do this stay still then move right after getting the first brick) Use a full shoe charge unless you missed a brick going up, if you did end it early to grab a third brick (4 shoe charges) Switch to the Tin Woodman once you hit the ground Hit up once you collect the key to enter a maze house Maze house ticket 1: Right, Left, Left, Right, Right, Ticket Maze house ticket 2: Only door, right, right, right, left, Ticket Maze house ticket 3: left, right, right, ticket, exit (Make sure you shoot the chair with an ammo shot that will hit you multiple times if you don’t kill it near the second ticket) Switch back to Dorothy Walk until you see a bird come on screen and then jump to only take 1 damage Jump on the spring and land on the left branch while grabbing all items Use 3 consecutive full shoe charges and grab all the bricks in your way, once you get your brick count to 11 jump down (11 bricks 1 shoe charge) Switch to scarecrow Jump on the second spring mushroom Grab a brick in midair by holding right (12) Jump to the end of the level

Azure Hedges

Immediately switch to Dorothy Jump to the right until you reach the third hedge going up Use a shoe charge and land on the square hedge all the way to the right (0 shoe charges) Jump to the right staying as high as possible until you pass the rhino Carefully make a semi precise jump to reach the platform to the right Jump appropriately until you reach the next rhino platform Start climbing the big tree to the right. After landing on the second platform climb up and to the left and grab a shoe charge (5 shoe charges) Jump back to the right Jump to the second highest hedge that extends farthest right Jump off near the edge of it Appropriately jump to the platform with the bats Jump over both bats Jump near the edge of the platform Continue jumping until you jump over a turtle Make one final precise jump to a platform Immediately jump once you land and grab the ticket and two bricks near the turtle (14) Jump to the next platform Use a shoe charge to reach the end of the level (4 shoe charges)

Navy Village

Immediately jump to the right Walk briefly then jump again to land on the mushroom Continuously jump right until you reach the first door and enter it Appropriately jump to the right and enter the door at the top of the platforms that are extremely close to each other Jump to the right and you will land on a platform (Get 1-ups if desired) Enter the door Jump to the closest door to the right and enter it Jump to the right and skip the optional bricks

Smalt Furnace

Switch to Scarecrow Immediately jump to the right 5 times Walk down and fall on the platform to the right Jump to the left side of that platform Jump appropriately to the left until you reach the ticket When near the ticket jump to land on the brown block to the right, then walk down off of that platform. Walk a bit left then jump to clip inside of the piping. Do a buffer jump to the right and grab the ticket. Jump to the right and avoid falling in the hole in between the piping Continually jump to the right without worrying about damage until you reach the second raindrop like enemy Fall down and go to the left Damage boost and jump until you get through the steam section Switch to Dorothy Jump to the left and land on the platform that extends to the right Attempt a precise jump to the right that lands on the final small platform in the fireball section (Press R to hide the life bar if you’d like and fall on ta platform, if you know you missed the precise jump attempt to land on the second platform) Jump continually to the boss Jump down and get hit by the Rat and shoot ammo so that he goes to the left Switch to Tin Woodman Hit the Rat with your ax 4 times Shoot an ammo block at him for the final hit Switch back to Dorothy

Indigo Palace

Immediately jump Walk a tiny bit and try to land on the purple hourglass in the background as soon as possible Jump and hit right at just the right time to gain distance and still be able to jump over the clock’s hands Jump onto the platform on the right Briefly walk right then jump left to jump over the flying monkey (This jump can be very difficult) Continue going left while climbing up When you reach the platform with the small clock above you jump on the center platform on the clock you’re standing on Climb up while staying to the left until you reach the hourglasses Jump on top of the two hourglasses. You should go under the flying monkey once you jump to the left. If you are too slow you will get hit. Jump on the hourglass to the left (Walk a little more before jumping if you were too fast) Jump to the right and land on the platform Jump over the clock Appropriately jump until you get on the purple hourglass Jump left until you reach the edge of the top of the clock Jump on each of the big purple hourglasses but wait briefly on the fifth for the flying monkey to pass (If you went too fast) Continue climbing up on the hourglasses until you reach the next platform Jump on the large hourglass to the left Jump on the smaller hourglass and continuously jump right ignoring damage from the big clock Jump on the next small hourglass Jump left Damage boost through the soldiers, you will end up with either lion or scarecrow. Make 2 precise jumps on the hourglasses to reach the top platform (I recommend buffer jumping to reach the second hourglass) Jump near the very edge to grab the ticket

Cyan City

Begin jumping up the left route and damage boost through the faucet After the faucet go up the window frames to the right Continue jumping on each window until you reach the platform with the mop enemy. Jump to the highest brown platform Jump left to reach a window Climb up each window, when you reach the highest point jump left Jump upwards until you get on top of a door frame Make a precise jump to reach the platform to the right Continue jumping straight upwards until you reach the top of a singular standing high platform. Jump to reach the right platform using a shoe charge (3 shoe charges) Jump to the end of the level

Blue/Purple Border

Use 2 shoe charges to make it across the large gaps. (1 shoe charge)

PURPLE COUNTRY

Mallow Marsh

Jump straight to the mushroom to avoid all damage. After landing switch to Scarecrow Jump on the mushroom to the right Land on the left branch of the tree to the right. You will grab a brick while reaching the platform. (1) Continue jumping forward and grab the 2 bricks that are in midair (3) Continue forward and pass 2 mushrooms then jump on the next one Grab a brick and a 1 Up in midair (4) Continue forward and jump on the next mushroom Skip a mushroom then jump on the next one. Land on the small branch to the right Make a precise jump to reach the upper branch to the right Grab the ticket and the bricks (10) Jump to the end of the level

Mauve Castle

Switch to Dorothy Carefully jump on each platform until you reach a wall. Jump to the left, when you are in mid jump when you are about to reach the highest platform use an ammo shot to hit the soldier. Jump over the fireball and shoot another ammo shot to finish off the soldier Jump to the platform Jump over the toy soldier Jump to the platform to the left Carefully jump all the way to the right until you reach the mouths Go to the left and grab the 2 bricks. (Damage boost if needed) (12) Jump to the left (Where the singular mouth is) Go all the way left Jump to the right and avoid the first flying monkey. (You can likely damage boost but it is a bit too risky this late in a run) Jump to the right and make your way to the top right corner of the screen After reaching the top go to the left where the toy soldier is. Damage boost through the first soldier then use a shoe charge at the end of the platform to reach a ticket (0 shoe charges) Switch to Scarecrow Jump to the right and take the lower route (Below the precise jump) Go up the elevator When you see the Witch’s fireworks jump on the left platform. Switch to Tin Man Kill the Witch Switch to Dorothy

Amethyst Mountains

Jump to the right until you reach the end of the platform with the scorpion Briefly wait then jump on the small platform Jump to the right then get on the high platform near the rolling enemy. Continually jump to the right, when you reach the second large spinning platform you can fall to the ground. Continue jumping right and shoot the scorpion when you are above the second floating platform at the apex of your jump Jump right and avoid landing on the spinning platform Grab the brick by jumping to the platform from below (13) Grab a shoe charge and the two bricks and finish the level (15 Bricks) (5 shoe charges)

Lilac Forest

Jump to the right and climb up the set of branches to grab a shoe charge at the top of the screen (8 shoe charges) Appropriately jump to the right until you reach a tree near the bottom with a circular set of leaves around it. Use a shoe charge and land near a ticket. (7 shoe charges) Jump up and then jump across the clouds until you reach the end of the level. (Optimally speaking you can also use a shoe charge to speed up the cloud section, but I personally prefer using the shoe charge on the border to grab the ticket without having to make a frame perfect jump)

Lavender Gardens

Shoot the bat to the right and jump over the rhino When you are heading up there are two small platforms near the two bats, jump on the left small platform to help avoid the top bat. Shoot the next rhino so you only get hit once Jump up all the small platforms Shoot the rhino with a specific ammo shot to get on the platform and avoid taking damage. Grab the ticket. (If this section went perfectly you only took 2 damage) Use a shoe charge and go all the way left to get a bone (6 shoe charges) Toto minigame Walk off the platform where you got the ticket Jump on the small platform to the right Jump over the fish Jump to the right and shoot the bat Make a precise jump to reach the small platform to the right Grab the 2 visible purple bricks (17) Use a shoe charge and land on the platform to the right (5 shoe charges) Jump to the right, when you see the brown branch like platform jump up above Jump to the right to land on a lower platform Jump to the right appropriately and shoot the rhino and the bat Jump to the right and go up an animal tree (This section is VERY risky with 3 health, but easy with 4) On the next to last platform use a shoe charge to the right and land on a platform (4 shoe charges) Grab the 4 purple bricks (21) Jump down and land on the large platform left of the higher platform with the bricks When the fish is at the apex of its jump, jump to the right Complete the level

Yellow/Purple Border

Jump appropriately to the right. Use a shoe charge when the final ticket is in view. (3 shoe charges)

EMERALD CITY

(Go back and get shoe charges, 5 shoe charges)

Immediately jump to the right and avoid the first flame. Jump to the right and damage boost through the second flame. Make your way to the green platform that is after the door. (This can be reached from the yellow platform) Use a shoe charge to the left and grab a key. (2 Shoe Charges) Jump straight to the door Make your way all the way to the left and grab a key from jumping off the farthest left ledge. Go through the closest door. Go all the way to the left and grab a key Backtrack to the door and grab a key on the way. Go through the left door Jump to the right and grab a key Land on the left platform Use a shoe charge and land on the green platform (1 shoe charges) Use another shoe charge to grab a key all the way to the right (0 shoe charge) Go through the door to the left Go through the door Go through the next door Grab the keys to the left and the right (You can jump through the flames if you’d like, therefore this level can be done without switching) Talk to Oz
