Regardless of what you decide I think it'd be a good idea for srcom to incorporate score. So, sort ascending/descending by score and optionally break ties with time, for example. Maybe this way we could avoid having to make a brand new leaderboard every time an item gets skipped in a low% category.

Would somebody do me a favour and fix the name on that guide that was just added, lol.

I thought we already do?

I would take objection to ZSNES or SNES9x 1.4X because the sound effects all sound like crap :p.

10ooki and I both opted to totally ignore the rules of the Extra Course categories because of how dumb they are, and the mods don't seem bothered by that, lol. Emulators (and VC) would have a 40-minute advantage over SNES if we had followed them. Even what we did though, if it were legitimized, would still be at a 2s disadvantage. I guess that's not really the emulator's fault.

If there are emulators out there running the game too fast or whatever I wouldn't know anything about that.

Well it's out. This is your reminder to click the checkbox.

Due to dumb reasons, I missed a really obvious and much easier setup for that previous method, so here's an update video. There are a couple more things I need to go through before I can say I think this is about as good as it will get for a setup that gets the Red Potion, but I think it's unlikely I'll beat it. The only slow part really is that I have to take the extra time to activate Walk Through Walls before I can do the actual setup. The only hard part, besides keeping all the steps straight, is standing in that one pixel-perfect position.

Credits warp is real for RTA now. Due to dumb reasons, it's a lot harder than it ought to be, though it was lucky that it only took 4 hits to get the right result. There wasn't another things that worked (at least not right out of the box) anywhere in the next 250+ hits. I'm still looking for a faster (as in, no Red Potion) way to pull it off.

Sometime soon we'll have to consider changing the start & end timing of the run, maybe adjusting the rules a bit...

Steps to pull of this method of the warp in the YouTube description.

Well, here's a way of getting arbitrary code execution. Not a real speedrun and TAS-Only for now but I'm still looking. Read youtube description for more info.

Figured it'd be nice to have the new weird crash bug I found documented somewhere.

Still working on that credits warp but it's needle in haystack.

New Brunswick, Canadar0bd0g6 years ago

Well I guess beating the time solved that problem.

If you're up for some moderating, this game is also on Wii U and coming to SNES Classic. :p

The capture died 2s in. I keep the preview off to save cpu b/c it's a tight squeeze getting this kind of stuff to run on my computer, so I didn't find out until the end. I guess I won't be doing that anymore. The audio is completely intact so you can mostly tell what's going on.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how willing are you to accept this run?

Bad mistakes on 5-1 and 8-1. 2-8 was a little bit dumb too. A decent amount of slop throughout. Lots of pro strats I didn't feel up to going for.

I'll be playing with the preview on from now on I guess, but as far as I can tell to refresh it I need to unplug/replug the capture card, and then change its resolution in obs, hit ok, then change it back unless I want it to stay at the wrong resolution. Hopefully it doesn't keep happening? My current VCR mangles recordings but I will go back to backup recording on VCR (after I find another VCR) if it does happen again...

New Brunswick, Canadar0bd0g6 years ago

Just wanted to say, I finished this pass of going through and updating all the strats... Mostly it was extra course, in response to tanooki's recent-ish runs, but there were some normal strats that got updated too. I kind of want to start another pass sometime soon though lol.

In that "run" he says there's a "speed tas" that sometimes misses shots, which is news to me and if it actually exists I'd like to see it.

(I like how he says the WR is in the 40's when both Kyle and I were well into the 30's at the time...)

Link moved, sorry.

I'm slowly working through a few dozen possible improvements to extra right now so there are a few out-of-date strats.

None of the mods have ever run this game. ¤shrug¤

Hey but I also said "it doesn't really matter all that much". I'll just run it how I want regardless of what happens. :p

Amiibo feel to me like glorified cheat codes. It works a little differently but they have that same kind of instant-gratification feel to them. If I ran the game (TBD) and had amiibo (not likely) I wouldn't want to use them for that reason. And I wouldn't really want the default view of the leaderboard to tell me I'm slower than the people who did, but I suppose I'd probably have to get over it because it doesn't really matter all that much.

I feel there are certain facets of how amiibo ought to work in a speedrun that aren't being discussed, and instead people retread the same tired arguments and refutations of RNG and cost and the like.

I guess I'll stay the rest of the way out of it until I (hopefully) get a copy of this game and can finally get to play through it. (Or maybe I'll spout some more nonsense in another 10s or so IDK.)

You can use the same amiibo multiple times by having more than one. Was that your intention? (Also, if the run is longer than 24 hours... >_>)

New Brunswick, Canadar0bd0g7 years ago

OK so I'm opposed to wolf link starting with extra hearts from playing TPHD or anything similar to that (especially if the categories are not separated). I think it's worth discussing not allowing that on the basis of it being a save that was not created during the run. That's the only stance I'm willing to take at this time. (Or maybe here's a stance afterall. For amiibo use in general, I think it's wait and see, for now. Category split someday if it gets absurd.)

I was hoping to be on the front lines of figuring out this game man but now IDK when I will finally get to play it. :(

New Brunswick, Canadar0bd0g7 years ago

"Totally agree with r0bd0g, amiibos shouldn't be considered any%" Now you can't "agree" with me and follow it up with something I never said. I didn't take a stance, I just threw out what I thought would be some of the complications. (Having amiibo/dlc considered any% gets complicated, but it's not necessarily the wrong decision.)

If anybody seriously argues for console separation, I'm out, lol.

Well I personally don't like that you guys are running BOTW meanwhile I can't afford to purchase a copy. Speedrunning should never be pay to win!

I guess I'm a random but I'll throw some random thoughts out there anyway...

I don't like restrictions in any%. Certain completion tasks figure to not be possible without amiibo/DLC so you'll probably have to make separate categories for that kind of stuff, later on. IDK I'm conflicted about the whole thing.

I feel like at some point, having all those amiibo around could get unwieldy. You can only use each amiibo once a day? What's the deal with that? If you have multiple copies of it though you can scan each of them? So if wolf link saves time or something you could just keep spawning him in. Imagine having to set up like 50 full-heart wolf links to be able to run this game, lol. And to some extent I feel like using an amiibo you have to set up beforehand is like some kind of linked game and the setup ought to either be timed (obviously you'd rather use a default amiibo than play TPHD) or have it be a separate category.

They're easy enough to get now, but how hard will it be to get 50 of them 20 years from now. Can you spoof them? Should that be allowed? Maybe it's like using a 3rd-party controller. You'd have to police it to make sure everything that is done is possible legitimately. Or maybe just the fact that you wouldn't necessarily have to come up with some system to juggle hundreds of figurines around while you're trying to do a run would give spoofing too much of an inherent advantage.

More DLC is coming up soon too... Hard to say how that will affect things, but you can count on the game getting patched when it comes out. Knowing Nintendo, they'll patch some glitches. I wouldn't put it past them to sell only the updated versions from that point on, which means you'll be left with no legal way of acquiring the earlier digital versions, lol. (Can I install the update in the middle of the run? Use the old glitches until I need to install the patch to get the DLC-exclusive stuff heheh.)

Between Amiibo, DLC, and patches, I'm expecting a dystopia of one form or another to arrive eventually.
