Alright, awesome. Also I did a WAY better run than last time, mainly because I am apparently unable to remember the small things with stats. So here is a run that is 8 minutes faster:
I don't really like that most of the categories of this game, aside from any%, all utilize glitches (even though I do like glitched up runs in general) because I feel it really takes away from the game.
I ended up doing a run called 'No Password, No Money Glitch' that plays through the whole game while getting the 'President of Sticks' title (I don't even really know if getting Dictator is possible, haven't really looked into it much (It isn't)) which makes the beginning of the game slightly more interesting with the major downside of the end of the run being kind of meh because it just becomes a clickfest getting to 777 in all stats by using the TV.
I don't know if it would be considered for a category of it's own because of the last fact, but I thought that it would something different compared to the other categories.
If you want to see what I am talking about, here is a link to a run I literally just did of it earlier today.
So, as the RNG is kind of similar to Chamber of Secrets (Though I don't remember exactly what memory address the RNG value is for this game anymore as I haven't done any digging into that kind of stuff since the TAS was made), I can say that the RNG is kind of hard to control since the game is a 3D movement type of game. So moving Up+Left can yield a different encounter spawn location as opposed to moving just Left, which can affect RNG greatly. This puts things into the pixel perfect spectrum, which makes incredibly difficult to deal with.
There is also the fact that the chance for Harry to do critical damage is frame dependent, meaning that getting the critical isn't determined at the beginning of the turn, like whether or not you do damage at all is, but at the frame that you press A to cast the spell.
As for emulator to test things I suggest the latest versions of Gambatte or BizHawk (which uses the Gambatte core), but I think that the later versions of VBA work fine as well for memory addresses.
Once the newer discoveries for Any% started happening a few years ago, the category changed completely from being only using Enemy Attack Skip for the end fights to doing everything that we do now and didn't make an updated category for a glitchless category.
For a 'No Glitches' category that would also include not using EAS as well, right? If so, I can add that whenever.
Glad to see that there is some interest in the game again. I haven't ran in a while, I lost interest in running after some time and ended up making more progress in HP2 instead.
There is a glitch item called 'Yes' that has limitless potential, from what us and the TASer understand, but there hasn't been a consistent way to control what it does yet. It often crashes the game, having no use outside battle aside from resetting the game with a 50/50 on making a save to be played on or erasing everything that you have done. In battle it can do some more things that can help, like I once was able to use it to skip all of lake. Other than that one instance though, I haven't gotten anything really useful from it.
If you have any questions, there is a discord for handheld HP games here: https://discord.gg/9kMfkrz
Could we maybe add another mod(s) to this game? I think that two would be better so that a mod doesn't auto verify their own runs. It would be nice to have a slightly more active people doing verification when they do come in.
Got the Chinese traditional version to run after changing my system local to it, but the puzzle for the Abyss door after waking up from the dream still works like it does in JP. I have no idea what the answer to it is. Which also means that probably the puzzle is the same way.
I was just wondering what you all thought. I didn't expect it to actually be used, but I thought that I would show what it looked like at least.
According to the creator's website there are other languages for the game. http://kouri.kuchinawa.com/syoukai/syoukai_2.html
I feel like if he has them on there that thy would be official enough to use them. What do you think?
So I was messing around with the files a little bit and tried moving the JP map0028.lmu file over the EU map0028.lmu file. This does end up doing the proper thing that it does in the JP version, but since the file has corrupted text I don't know what we should do about this. I made a short video of it looks like if proof of it needs to be seen.
Just the final. Splits aren't that big of a deal, unless you want to upload them to splits.io and post those here as well.
Sorry about the late replies, yes you can still submit it. As long as we can see the final time, that's all that matters.
We use the deck we use because at this point it is habit. In the route before that, we got it because it allowed us to use 2 card combos before knight when we are entering the castle. As far as train skip is concerned, that was the hypothesis that we came up with at the time. I don't know if any more research has been done on it since then.
Beating XXX is gonna be extremely annoying in any version of the game. But that is also why I asked if we could use 1.0. Using 1.0 would make the run a little bit easier to try a run of, you get both DD and an extra set of characters(Freddy and Chica that can both level to 20, just cannot get their respective abilities). I do think that it would be nice if we could have separate boards for different versions, just a suggestion.
I have gotten the red screen before, the only thing that I remember doing on them was pressing A too many times by accident. Other than that, I honestly do not know. This game is broken to the point that I don't have any explanation for certain things. And don't worry about all the questions, I am okay with them.
Yes, when do an S&Q, the DW isn't a guarantee. If you get that one and never hit another encounter then the DW will still occur. Troll Skip deals with the last fight being a victory, as long as it is not from a duped victory (this is a thing to worry about in No Frog%). Filch, as far as I know, doesn't have anything to do with that. Quirrel, I honestly have no idea.
The DW isn't a guarantee at all, it is a hit or miss, from the S&Q. Now if for say you get the first one, from the S&Q, or if you are able to get killed (somehow, especially since dying in battle is insanely hard in Frog%) and don't hit any encounters all the way through forest, then you will not have to S&Q again to get the DW, because it stores the last outcome of whatever you got. The DW attempt from the S&Q is a special case in the fact that there isn't any previous outcome to look at, so it looks up a fight that never existed in the first place and works from there. I am still not quite sure if there is going to ever be a time where we will get the S&Q DW 100% of the time.
Could we maybe make a separate thing for different versions? Could see different types of strats depending on the version.
